But yeah, bizarrely, despite being on the Kent and Sussex Border (seriously, I live in Kent, two minutes walk up the Road is Sussex) we actually have quite big Sweetcorn Fields kicking about, and I don't really have any qualms about yoinking a couple of cobs now and again. I try not to actually enter the Farm itself, as I suspect I'd be quite offended by a buttock full of buckshot. Otherwise, in Summer and Autumn (even Spring, if you know where to look) there's lots of Orchards and that offering temptingly free Apples, Oranges, Cherries etc.
It's a bit like Pick Your Own (a quaint British tradition) where you tend to eat at least one Strawberry for everyone you stick in the Punnett.
Now, if only I could find out where they grow the Spuds, I'd be set! Turnips too.
