Common misconception. Page 21 regarding claiming cover, "When any part of the target model's body (as defined on page 16) is obscured from the point of view of the firer" Page 16 says, "for body we mean its head, torso, legs and arms".
I amend my statement "A 5 mm tall crater can give cover if, using TLoS, it covers the lowest part of the leg of the target model.

Fortunately on Space Marines the base of the Greaves are actually at the same height of the tread top if you look at their lowest point. Unfortunately, Kroot run on tip-toe, so no toe-top saves for you. Anyway my point, so poorly made, was 'real world logic' may have informed the rules but can not amend, or adjust, or explain a rule.

Some models sold are kneeling.

Talking more for people to start modeling all their models kneeling but yeah I see where you are coming from.

It's not modelling for advantage, GW told me to do it (Note model number 2)

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

If anything modeling it on taller bases is modeling for a disadvantage as you well be able to be shot back at from under the tank and it considerably more difficult for a tank to get behind terrain for LoS blocking/obscuring.

So what if you managed to rig up a retractable stand for the stock base? I seem to recall there being rules in the book somewhere for vertical movement...

Sorry to go OT, but where in the new 'nid codex does it say this? The only model I can see with a weapon able to do this is Hive guards, unless thats what you meant?

Nothing gives you permission to alter the shape of the model, so you cannot.
