Does a film have to be plausible if the fantasy is sufficiently engaging? In Avatar they had wireless communications that were so advanced that you could perform complex acrobatics in real time, but it was needed for the fantasy and the fantasy was sufficiently engaging.

No, it's ludicrous. The first point of Russian attack was to put paratroopers into a podunk town and begin the manpower intensive activity of building and manning detention centres for the entirety of the population.

It makes exactly zero sense. Whether or not you think that matters is an interesting question, but it was certainly ludicrous.

I'm with Sebster. It's the CIA and the War College's job sometimes to think of the ludicrous, but that doesn't make it any more plausible. It could make for a fun story though. The remake should have been China invading Australia; replace Wolverines with Cane Toads as the mascot and you are good to go. Maybe it would be an unofficial prequel to Mad Max?

Are we really picking apart gun safety on High Schoolers with no military training in a high stress environment? For them, it is all about the cool photo, not whether or not they are following firearm safety. They have school pride and that is what matters.

That is already a series of books called Tomorrow, When the War Began by John Marsden. Except instead of china it is just generic asians from a nonspecific nation. And NEW ZEALAND of everyone leads the counterattack to liberate Oz while America and Europe condemn the invasion but are content to watch. I liked those books much more before I saw the many, many similarities to Red Dawn.

first one was ludicrous because Russia invading US equaled game over for everyone.

second one is even more ludicrous because China invading US means half their money (that we owe them) goes away.

That does not mean that I do not believe we won't be at war with China within 20 years, just that they won't have the stones to make it a hot war with the US.

And no, the cold war isn't really over, it's shifted to a cold/trade war between the US and China.

You do realize that you don't see the whole war's point of view in this movie right? The movie even says that the Russians used Nukes on the US at the start.

I am not saying the movie is without plot holes, just that it is not that far of a streach. The Overall Invasion was covered by the War College, not the plot of the movie concerning one small town.

It's kinda interesting that the actual France born Frenchies I know who've visited Quebec? They've said it puts the arrogance that the French are associated with look like the French are polite and well-mannered.

And I don't think China wants to invade the US. Just an interesting Q- France vs. Quebec or maybe France vs. Canadia.

I'd put money on Canada. All you have to do is tell Canada its going to interfere with their hockey season. We'd have to counterinvade Canada just to pull them off the prostrate body of France. France would never have guessed all those hockey mom minivans were amphibious until they stormed the beaches of Normandy.
