Nice army m8. I like the mixture of new and old models you've got (not a fan of the huge new daemonettes). The colours were a bit garish the first time I saw them, but now I think they fit well and tie your army together.

I like the old greater daemons they're the best of a terrible bunch of miniatures, none of which portray a slaanesh greater daemon well.

The only thing I don't like in your army is your soul grinders. I like the look of the spider legged one, not so much the other one, it just doesn't seem to fit with your army. A soul grinder is a huge machine. I agree the actual model looks like it was designed in a rush on a friday afternoon before they knocked off for the week, but they're supposed to be a model you will almost never be able to hide (even 50% of). They're also difficult to deep strike being 5'5"x6' in size. - Against me you'd be fielding daemon princes, or putting them on top of upturned coffee cups to normalize their profile.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks - I'm not a big fan of those new Daemonettes either - they're just a bland halfway point between the slaanesh-sexy 3ed ones and the slaanesh-perverse 1ed ones. Dumbed down and nippleless. However, they do make a good base for conversion...

Yeah, i understand the Soulgrinders not the right size, so I have no problems just not using them. It just seemed like a simple thing to build since I had all the parts in my bits box...

But the real problem IS that hideous Soulgrinder model. For that matter, I really dislike the defiler model as well, and the recent GW trend to creep up model sizes (so they won't fit in my damn cases!!). The thing with converting a Soulgrinder is that, apart from the defiler itself, there are very few other models big enough to convert FROM. The hive tyrant, 1ed GUO and other 'monstrous' bodies I had lying around to use as a base for conversion are still way too small, so converting a new body would have been a scratch greenstuff job, which I'm not particularly interested in doing.

Oh well...

I agree, I spent a while trying to think of another base model and ended up doing a complete redesign using parts from the soul grinder. Still work in progress in the modelling section (being distracted by an inq land raider atm).

As I said, I like the rest of your army and wish I had enough slaanesh to actually field a single faction one. As is, I tend to field half as Tzeentch.

Well, they're certainly bright.

I have to say, there's something unexpectedly creepy about rank upon rank of the identical 1st edition models...

Daemonettes strike pose!
For a larger Soul Grindery thing would a Trygon work as the base probably wouldn't need much. Personally I wouldn't object, I used to use the old Ork Trukk models........

Hello. A few days away, but I've kinda run out of big things to do here in Glasgow. Having said that, I've made good progress over the last three weeks, rebasing and finishing the whole previous army and painting the new squads. However, all the bigger projects left over require me to be back in London. The second soulgrinder needs white spray, and the Daemon Princes require a bit of Dremel work to remove the head before converting and painting can begin.

I've busied myself over the last few days by finishing off bits and bobs I have outstanding, so here's WIP shots of the 2ed Fiend who'd going to have Unholy Might, the mounted Herald with an Instrument and two 2ed Steeds of Slaanesh (one for the mounted Herald and one for the Chariot conversion). I hope to finish all these tonight/tomorrow morning before my return to London tomorrow evening....

So, the fiend leader is done. This gives me enough to field two units of four..

I've also had a bit of a change of plan. The Herald on Steed is now going to have a converted Steed, made from the Ravenor body I used to use as a DP. It's had it's arm holes filled, and I've got a 3ed Seeker head coming from eBay. The Herald will sit on the top of the neck...

This, of course, means I've now got TWO 2ed Steeds to pull my chariot

Ok, so I've got back and got some converting done, and just finished the final batch of white spraying. Here's my spray tray with the Soulgrinder, the final seeker, the chariot and it's converted Witch Elf herald, and the three Daemon Princes.

The Daemon Princes are all converted from Eldar Avatar models. They have a bit of greenstuff work to hide some of the conversion joins, and magnets in the fur on their backs to connect wings. I have two sets of new Gargoyle wings ready (the one in full armour isn't going to get any).

DP1 - Avatar body, Possessed head, dragon arms/claws

DP2 - Avatar body, Possessed head, old Daemon Prince sword, Azazel tentacles

DP3 - Avatar body and arms, Possessed head, Ogre Bull sword

The eye of terror.

I have to admit, other than the bottom prince they just don't look good to me, their heads and limbs are just the wrong dimensions.

Why did the berzerker cross the road?

Not feeling #2.

#1 is pretty tough looking, doesn't really fit with all the daemonettes, same for #3

yeah,
I like them. They are DaemonPrinces their dimensions don't have to be right.

Avatars are golems that the eldar infuse with their gods spirit.
It makes sense that when slaanesh fight eldar and win they claim these golems and give them to their mightest daemons as host bodies...
And after hunting the eldar since their fall, I'd imagine slaanesh has quite a few Avatar Corpses.

The iron body of a avatar makes for a awesome iron hide!

Panic...

Last bits, almost finished. I have the final seeker, with a spear. I'm thinking I can use her as a leader figure with Transfixing Gaze or something. And then the second Soulgrinder, this one's more brass than silver...

Finally the last model is finished. Herald riding a Steed of Slaanesh. The Steed is a WHFB Steed head on a Ravager body. The Herald is a 2ed Mounted Daemonette with new daemonette arms and head.

Now it's all painted, I'll be setting up the BIG ARMY PHOTO

That looks great kudos for completing it so quickly!

Great work Ian, dig that day-glo and all the OOP minis or nifty conversion. Like the princes myself, though some of their heads seem a bit off center in an odd way - though I like the pinhead asymmetrical look for sure
