This has already happened (in part). You can only get the 'metal' regiments from the online store.
I'd like to see the Cadian and Catachan sprues revised to include all the special weapons and any new regiments released in this format.
I'd also like to moan about sergeants losing the option for lasguns (again) in the last codex, despite this being an option on the current plastic sprues!

It would be called an "Upgrade" box of some kind, and have MAYBE a full sprue of heads for each set, and maybe 5 bodies. Again, to force you to buy crap loads of them to accomplish anything.
If they did you could just trade the other regiment parts with people for the ones you want, simples.

I take it those are 1st edition Imperial Guard?

They probably don't...
They hail for the days of '3 rhinos in a box' too, don't they?
And the '30 marines in a box' days too...

Yep, when Imperial Guard were propa tough and carried their Lascannons on their shoulders!
I love those old blastgoggle wearing Necromundan Spiders, I'd happily build an Imperial Guard army from them. As to the other regiments (I am also a Mordian fan), I strongly suspect they will just be decommissioned over time. They chose the two plastics to become the two plastics because the cadians are the new 'generic guard' and the catachans always sold well with the kids back in the Red Age. The Tallarns from forgeworld were, I suspect, someone's pet project back when FW could prettymuch make what it wanted to. Tallarns were never a popular choice of guards when I was selling them about 12 years back.

If I recall correctly, those Imperial Guard were after the "3 to a box" Rhinos. I think GW had shifted to the "2 to a box" by the time the IG plastics came out, or possibly even 1 to a box.

Yeah those were the original plastics, 30 or so to a box with plastic special and heavy weapons included.
And I still love that cover art with bajillions of them marching to their doom just looking all pathetic and about to die.
It's funny Tallarn seem to be getting more popular, I have them as my army now. A friend had a great Tallarn army in 2001 but then after Sept 11 people started calling them the Talliban army and well... that was that.

Actually the new plastic EM4 stuff looks a lot like them......

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

The "new" em4 plastic stuff is actually not new at all. It dates back to the mid-90's, and the more recent metal upgrade kits are at least 4 years old.

You are right however, that there are similarities. I've seen some folks building forces for RT these days, and they wouldn't be a choice for RT guardsmen. The weapons would need some work, but the price is certainly right.
I like the figs, but still haven't decided what to do with the 3 squads I have.

I have the EM4 guys. they are smaller than GW's heroic 28mm and the guns are beyond crude. With the metal command pack they look much better but in all I was not too impressed with them.
