Just to annoy everyone further: I can't remember the rules for mines, but they're activated in the movement phase when someone steps into the affected area terrain. Shooting or non-shooting? Of course, i don't think it really matters since the terrain which would provide a cover save is getting blown up too, but there's Eldar with their Fortune or Conceal or whatever the thing is called...

It would strike me that as the cover is falling into a hole/the Mawloc's mouth that it would be less than helpful.

The people I speak to seem to agree RAI means no cover save.

Rai who knows ... i could just as easily say that a model gets the cover save because the ground the model is standing in is tougher and holds together shielding the model from the worst of the debree.

Raw however looks more in favour of them getting a save.

Best guess is that people will play they don't get a save and wait for the FAQ for confirmation.

Ok, here's one that was bugging me, assuming the critter comes up under a vehicle, are it's hits monstrous, as in S+2D6?

It's a monstrous creature right? They are melee attacks right? (Hit rear armor).

?

RAW states that you get cover saves from Firing models.

The fluff states that you can gain cover saves from other items, however the actual RULES require a firing model.

the mawloc is not a "firing" model.

It doesn't happen in the assault phase, doesn't follow any of the rules of close combat and doesn't have any indicators that it is a melee attack, so I'd say no.

OK I think that is reasonable, but, the creature doesn't shoot right?

Isn't that at least an indicator it has to be a melee attack?

It isn't? What is a large blast, then? Because I was under the impression that's exactly what a large blast does. . .
If it was a large blast weapon is would state some thing like this:
place a S6 AP ? Large blast. This doesn't actually state the weapon is a LBM, it just "inflicts wounds".

Why do people keep saying 'RAW' outside of the shooting phase you don't get cover saves or you do get cover saves.

The rules do not state either way.

By the RAW, hits and wounds caused outside of the normal process for shooting or assault have no rules...ergo, do nothing.

In other words, the RAW here are broken, do not exist, etc.

I see your point yakface but rules for taking saves are only listed as part of the shooting rules. The only other time they are mentioned is in the close combat rules to stay that a model does not get a cover save.

You must use the whole of the taking saves rule including cover since it is the only place you are told how to take them.

It should be noted that every other point in the rule book you are told when you are not aloud a save, for example Dangerous Terrain tells you that you get no armour or cover saves against it.

Doesn't this cover about 90% of 40k?
