Pansie (TM GW2010) is registered intellectual property of Games Workshop...

Best complain to DC Thomson about the use of 'pansy' when Dennis The Menace is talking about Walter the Softy. Oh, and whoever wrote the script for Madagascar, as a one of the characters calls the Zoo animals panises.

I can only complain about stuff I have seen.

Now, not to second guess anyone's actions, but could it be possible that this section of text was actually written by someone who is used to a US dialect? Since there are multiple meanings for words, could it be that they were actually NOT intending the inflammatory meaning? If not, then I suppose it would be wrong for me to say that I get gay when I go out to smoke a cigarette (but the other word). If not, we also run into the following trap that I think others have already to an extent pointed out:

1. Language changes over time.
2. Language is inconsistent geographically.
3. Words can be turned into slurs that are in no relation to their original meaning.

If we can accept all of the above, then as time approaches infinity, we quickly see that there are no words left that someone somewhere won't find offensive in some way if they want to.

Sometimes I think the PC bandwagon goes too far, though I do apologize for my above rant at this point if you were genuinely offended.

"Buckets of Prizes"? Last year was a stunning low in prize support. I'm thinking this year won't be much better.

The two meanings kind of go hand-in-hand, due to the (I would think getting rather dated now) idea that homosexuals are wimpy or effeminate ...

But since most English words derive from German/French, doesn't that mean the German/French have the final say?

words: Chocolate, Potato or X-box.

chocolate
1604, from Nahuatl xocolatl, from xococ "bitter" + atl "water." Brought to Spain for first time 1520.

and subsequently passed into the English language and passing into American usage

potato
1565, from Sp. patata, from Carib (Haiti) batata "sweet potato." Sweet potatoes were first to be introduced to Europe; in cultivation in Spain by mid-16c.; in Virginia by 1648. Early 16c. Port. traders carried the crop to all their shipping ports and the sweet potato was quickly adopted from Africa to India and Java. The name later (1597) was extended to the common white potato, from Peru, which was at first (mistakenly) called Virginia potato, or, because at first it was of minor importance compared to the sweet potato, bastard potato

ditto
