Who gets offended when Chris Rock calls african-americans "[see forum posting rules]"?

Context, people.

Does anybody truly believe GW intended to attack gay people out of the blue in the middle of an 'Ard Boys advert?
Or did they use "pansy" or "panzee" as they have done for 20 years?

EDIT. See? I can't even use the N-word (what a joke that concept is) in a completely innocent connection. Yet Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock and Richard Pryor makes/made a lot of money saying just that word. And why aren't we up in arms about that? Because of the context!

Of course I don't think GW wanted to attack gay people.

Nonetheless I was offended.

I have no idea whether they used the term before and I don't care. Saying c*nt a lot doesn't magically make it inoffensive.

Is it really so difficult to avoid using such slang words when you are a $150 million dollar international corporation?

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I thought my fellow Americans had the market covered on political correctness nonsense. Brits always (in my experience at least) seemed less inclined to partake in PC stuff, "just say it like it is" type of thing . This Mod is either trolling for laughs or just very very sensitive. Funny either way.

I think the people who have taken offense by GW's usage of the word pansie are less offended by some made-up mystical link with being a homosexual and more with fact that they once were called a pansie at one point in time.Big bad words like that bring back painful nerd memories.

I Find that offensive! How dare you imply my skin is of a less than average intelligence when compared to dried flexible sheets of (typically) cellulose pulp derived from wood, rags or grasses!

In Killkrazy's defense.. The correct british response is to SUE someone whenever youre offended by anything and then get your local government to pass a law prohibiting anything that might be a danger to anything

Filing a complaint is actually fairly tame when you're a member of the nanny state :p

That was meant to be a joke, if its offensive.. well Im American so get over it

Well not in my case. I was a pretty well adjusted kid, but the I think that the people who like to use that kind of language try to act tough cause their daddy did not hug them enough, and they are trying to make everyone else hurt as much as they are inside. There seem to be a lot of people out there who like to be offended and outraged by things which have no direct bearing upon themselves. They are just happy to jump on whatever PC bandwagon rolls along.

The problem with this sort of behaviour is that is causes more problems than it solves as It often draws negative attention in the form of resentment at not being allowed to use certain terms for fear of them being used out of context.

A prime example is the word black. Black is a colour, it used to be used to describe all sorts of items such as Refuse sacks (Black bags) and chalk boards (Black boards). Until someone came along and for some stupid reason decided this may offend those of dark skinned African heritage. Uterly ridiculous.

Should we stop describing the retailing of goods at a reduced price for a limited period a sale for fear that sailing enthusiasts may become disapointed and upset that said retailer has nothing of the nautical persuasion on offer? I appreciate there is a difference in the spelling of the two words but you get the gist!

I am not a person who is easily offended or who takes offence 'professionally' yet this advert did genuinely offend me.

Really? I hope you don't ever turn on a TV, listen to the radio, or read Youtube comments...

You're SERIOUSLY upset over the use of PANSY?

Wow.

ETA

And you have something in your sigline, that I can only assume(correct me if I'm wrong) the movie, Team America : World Police

But you're not offended by that?

I'm really not meaning to call you out, but man, this is really over the top. GW does a lot of stupid crap, and I'm far from being a fanboy, but this is really a shout-out for attention.

PC is crap, and needs to go the hell away, and honestly people like you are part of the problem. Getting all offeneded over something that wasn't meant to be offensive, or should be disregarded as a light-hearted jab.

The number of folks in here criticising others based on what they find offensive is kind of absurd.

It's a big world out there. Different people have different values, and international corporate entities are usually cautious with the language they use in official communications, for good reason.

Yea, it probably is when they've been using it in their fluff for decades.

These kinds of frivolous complaints are part of whats wrong with the world today.

Maybe if everyone worried a little less about what might offend their delicate sensibilities and just got on with their life, we'd get a little more accomplished.

I'll only say this; if you're offended by the ambiguous use of the word pansie, then you are pansie. Get over it.

To me? Pansie is no more connected to homosexuality as butt pirate is. It's only connected because some people made it connected.

The stereotypical homosexual is effeminate, physically weak, cowardly, and morally objectionable (I am not saying that is what I believe, but that it is the negative stereotype). The word pansie, in my opinion, refers to someone that is physically weak (more in terms of toughness) and cowardly. It is an adjective, not a noun.

However an adjective can be repurposed to be used as a noun. In the case of homosexuals, gay, queer, and fairy have all be repurposed to identify them. That does not mean when I say a flamboyantly colored whatever and describe it as "gay" that I mean it is "homosexual." Or if something goes oddly awry in a most perturbatory way, and I call it queer, does not mean I am describing my intake manifold as being like a homosexual.

GW was trying to be human and people are pissing on them about it. I stand behind GW for once in their use of the word "pansie" to help add flavor to their events. The world isn't PC and neither should fiction.

Just because anyone agrees with anyone, doesn't mean they are correct. Beware the thin line between what is "Correct" and what is "Popular."
