Truly though you guys have finally pushed me over the edge, I'm definitely convincing some of my gaming club to start playing necromunda

Haha, yes, our Jack here is quite a poet... sometimes somewhat uncouth, but hell, uncouth suits me just fine

Necromunda is cool for modeling purposes, but the game itself was to reliant on the whole overwatch system. In the few games I played there was rarely any movement.

Aunun Un Rama: That sounds like you had too little terrain on your table.

If you don't quite like the original necromunda rules I can reccomend DeathSquads. It has kept most of the shiny bits of necromunda and streamlined a few of the problematic parts. It is originally built for being played with small detachments from regular 40k armies. And the amount of work put into it is huge, for a fan made product. Check their homepage here: http://www.deathsquadsgame.com/ You need to register of their forums to download a copy of the rules.

We actually had too much terrain.
But I'll check out Death Squad.

Overwatch is only as good as the figure calling it. Especially if the character you are shooting at is wearing flak (or better) has 2 wounds, dodge and is breaking cover.

The updated necro' rules are fairly solid - the updated skills, and fan made rules that can patch in dogs and vehicles keep the game fresh.

Ya ya,

I think we've hardly being able using overwatch at all... except for a heavy or two... Hey Jack, how big would you say the game table is?... its pretty large anyway so there is always to option of flanking you opponent. Which I have to admit, in our last battle Jack did brilliantly. We've got a fair bit of ground cover to move in and out of and the table dimensions makes us fight on a very wide 'front'. So we've actually had quite fluid games so far I think. Wouldn't you agree Jack?

Oh and Blackhand,

Muchos gracias about the heads up about the various other models. Yeah I had that 'Gretta' model on order, plus I also ordered her sister and a few other female heads here and there to try my hand to conversions. I think i'll finally go out this weekend to get my self a rotary tool so I can buzz some of these heads and hair styles off the basic GW models.... much too punk rocker at the moment.

Hey Jack, how big would you say the game table is?

Uhm, the table we use is a cubic metre. I my invest in a crappy bunnings tressle table, and cannibalise the legs and put it on a 4x6 MDF base. But, first and foremost I need to make some new towers and terrain.

So we've actually had quite fluid games so far I think. Wouldn't you agree Jack?

Totally. As you pick up different skills and you develop an understanding of your figures strengths and weaknesses overwatch becomes nothing more than a game anchor.

The only character that uses overwatch with any regularity is my Heavy Bolter "Krieger", the rest of my gang is normally in assault teams of 2 or 3 - with some sacrificial bullet catchers at the forefront. Ahhhh Juves, does it get better?

sidenote: I am fielding a BS5 plasma and BS4 grenade launcher next game, so next game is gonna be hella fluid.

Archibald Jack

Nice gang... your "Alice" model looks great... with all that blood it reminds me a bit of that old computer game "American Mc Gee's Alice"...

I'm interested in a scale comparison of your Infinity, Reaper an GW models... could you post a group shot?

Hi All,

Firstly, thanks for the visits and comments. Really appreciate it.

Konf, here's the height chart. My newest acquisitions are a bit taller but that's ok... adds a bit of vareity of height to the gang.

Ok, last night went to my local games shop again and just looked for random models. Managed to find a few models that tickeled my fancy, so I bought them to see what I could do with them.

First one was a Cordelia Rosalind miniature from the Anima Tactics line. The detail on the dress is amazing I think. What you see is a rough approximation of how I want to pose her I think. I was quite surpised to find her actually because I didn't know that guns existed in this miniature line. Anyway she seemed to a machine gun type character so she might make a good heavy stubber character in the future. The barrel on the original model was out rageously long so I had to trim that down a bit. Next I wasn't happy with how she was holding the gun so i've made a few changes...

Next up is another Reverend Moiras Miniature from the Infinity line. Cool looking mini and will make a good ganger I think. I'll probably have to convert the weapon to someting more standard or I could probably use it as a lasgun....

Next is a reaper mini... can't remember the name but had nice dress as well. . the pose was really awkward though so theres been a lot of cutting and bending and reposing of the mini... the face was also a bit too round so I tried to file her face down a bit. The pose is a real rough approximation of what I want to do and am not sure if i'll keep her or not... she still seems awkward in that pose I think.

One more to come...

to be cont...

Hasslefree could work, but you've got to bear in mind that they're tiny compared to a lot of other models. I've a few in my gang, and I find that you can get away with it as long as you have some medium-sized models in there as well as the tallest ones.

Hey Konf, you're welcome. I'll certainly check out the urban war range. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks mate. I certainly hope to finish some of them myself.. haha... too many ideas in my head.

Thanks Blackhand. I certainly hope so. I think the hardest part will be getting some sort of uniformity between the 3rd party figures I'm adding, and the GW figures that i'm going to use. Still thanks for the encouragement... more ideas to come.

Thanks for the tip TaintedMess... that schoolgirl mini looks really promising.. I think I might order one eventually.. Since Dreadnote said that Hasslefree are a little smaller, the style of this mini and the size should make a fairly good juve model. cheers

ok ok....

So ever get that feeling that you've started way too many projects and you're not sure that you'll finish them... And event though you've got all these projects going.. you suddenly get another idea. ... One that you have to start on right away... to hell with what you're working on... you've just got to start it... right now, right then.... Yesterday was one of those days..

First of all there was another mini from the other day which I hadn't uploaded yet. This one is from Anima tactics... Love the dress and the detail on it so I had to get it... Again like the other Anima tactics figure she's a little bit taller than the GW minis but I plan to make her lean forward so she should lose a bit of height from that.

Next up... so I was looking through so of my reference mateiral books for inspiration on the whole "Gothic Lolita" book.. (it's this one if anyone is interested btw.) So anyway, I was looking at the some of the dresses and an idea suddenly came to my mind. Why don't I take a GW mini and sculpt a frilly lacy dress on top of the mini?!!.. I mean.. (in the words of Jeremy Clarkson) "How hard can it be!?".... Well it turns out... quite hard... Looking at the anime tactics mini I posted earlier.. the level of detail is insane... I can't imagine how they sculpt such fine detail into the mini.

But anyway... I had limited success and I thought I'd share and see what you guys think and whether it passable. Since I created it, i know what it's suppose to be.. .but do you guys? And I must admit, I did get very close to scrapping the whole thing and throwing it away.

1st step... Ok so once I had decided on a mini... I got out the miliput (first time using miliput by the way) and shapped a rough approximation of a dress. Once it was in the basic shape I sculpted some folds and creases into it. So yeah.. basic shape of dress.... at this point... i thought it was ok.

2nd step... ok... so after the miliput was set i got the good old gs out and went about trying to add the detail of the frills. Experimented with a few methods but found that laying thin bands of gs around the skirt and then shaping it... Not pictured here, but I found that rolled gs rather than flat gs is better for this type of work.

3rd step... The best way I can describe for making the frills is to get a rounded tapered tool of some sort like dental tools or toothpick and press it in at roughly equal intervals. Then use the tool to raise and curve the sections that haven't been pressed in...

4th step... Ok... so you do the same thing over again in a different layer and theoretically you have something resembling a frilly dress.... Or at least that's what I thought. ... Though.. now i'm not sure... what do you guys think?

well... that's it for now... keen to get some oppinions. And thanks for all who have visited and commented.
My Incursion Gretel and Isla figures should arrive sometime this week as well... Oh goodie, even more projects to start.. haha

cheers.

to be cont...

The Dress looks pretty good the one thing about it that seems off to me is that it seems to thick at the edge but i think its only noticeable because of the upward angle of the photo

Personally, I think you nailed it. That makes a great Victorian dress. By the way you really should check out hassle free minis like he said, their adventurer line could make a gang by its self. Lots of fun cc weapons and shot guns. You'll love there Alice models.

The dress looks good, my only thought would be maybe taking some of the spikes off the shinguard and kneepad as these don't seem to mesh with the whole "gothic lolita" theme (if I read the wiki correctly)

Otherwise well done for sticking with what must have been some fiddily GS work, I know I always end up squishing parts I have done with my finger and having to redo half my work

Dress is looking good. I'd consider a different sword though, since the one in the pic looks a bit too much like a blunt instrument. A rapier or a sabre might suit her more.

I don't know about that Blackhand. I think if Loli goths spent more time fighting for their live in decaying hive worlds they might have had a few more spikes on their outfits. Who knows, maybe I just fell in with the wrong crowd.

It's worth noting that wap's alcohol intake has more than quadrupled over the last week, and is not uncommon for him to come to social events with green dyed fingertips, mummering phrases such as "drown the pain" and "too many fingerprints".

It's all looking really wicked. Viva la Conversioni!

Thanks for the feedback guys. Appreciate it. I'll keep trying with it... I do feel the 'finish' is still a bit too rough. It's not 'polished' enough if you get my drift... But i've got a few ideas to try to improve the model.
