@ CommissarKhain: thanks mate, feels good to be doing stuff again.

Automatically Appended Next Post:

Ok, update on the Violent Fems.

A little while ago, I came to a realisation that a lot of the models in my necromunda gang just aren't up to scratch. Mainly it's the GW minis... at least, they aren't what I wan't for the vision of what my gang should look like.

The original inspiration of 'Violent Fems' was gothic lolita / harujuku street fashion / anime. I wanted 'pretty' girls with frills and lace. But at the same time vicious, dark, and creepy. And whilst the GW minis are violent enough, they just don't look right, they are all just too punk....

So that leaves me with one option... to build a gang entirely out of minis from other foundries and mod and convert what I need to convert. So here are a few of the models I've added during the time i've been away.

Before I went on hiatus last time, people were asking me where and which bits I was sourcing my models from... By far, one of the most chalenging things about this project is finding mini with at least partically the right look. So i'll be trying to post also where the original minis came from before my hobby knife got near them....

I'm trying to stick to Escher gang ethos and field a number of gangers (or at least have them available) with close combat in mind.
The first mini is a Reaper Oyuki mini, I've modded her to hold a laspistol / autopistol and a sword from an anima tactics mini. Pics below.

Next, is a replacement for the GW escher heavy stubber.
I got a couple of Reaper "Alice & white rabbit" minis. Then added the gun from a "Cordelia Rosalind" Anima tactics mini. I had originally planned to use Cordelia as just the the heavy by herself, but when I placed her next to GW and reaper minis, I found that she was actually considerablly taller. It was a pitty becuase her dress was absolutely the perfect look I wanted for my gang... but no matter, I have plans for her body. Anyway, I cut the gun down and used some GS to make a strap and her arm and handle for the gun. I plan to get a couple for "alice" minis and actually add make a heavy plasma and possibly heavy bolter option... Such that my heavys will be known as "the Twins".. .or even, "the Triplets"

ok last bit of work for now.
Remember how I said the Cordelia model was too tall, well it seemed such a wast to not use all that lovely scuplting on her bodice... So i did the magician girl sawing in half trick...
I cut her off roughly at her hip and did the same to another reaper mini, "Suger anime heroine" (i dislike the face on suger... it's too fat...) Below is a early stage, i'll fill in the gap with some GS work later.

If anyone is still following this thread, I hope people who see this are happy with what they see.... again... sorry sorry sorry for my absence of over a year... shiz happens.
C&C most welcome & thanks.

Nice conversions. As it's not something I do myself a lot, I find it interesting how you can totally change the look of a model just by repositioning a limb or swapping a weapon...or creating some freaky chimera by swapping out an entire set of legs

Think I'll go take a look back through the thread, I always liked your stuff.

@ Arakasi: Cheers mate... Glad to be back. Thanks for reading.

@The Dreadnote Thanks man. Honestly I think the conversions are what I enjoy the most... as you'll notice I don't have that many painted minis. This is probably due to the fact I hate painting with halogen light, and even in summer, the natural light after I come home from work just isn't good enough to paint with.... hehe... yep... I really enjoy the whole frakenstein thing of trying to join bits together..

OK mini update.!

i've just spent the last couple of hours moulding GS... into an extended skirt for the half and half figure.... It's a bit rough but i'll add another layer to clean it up and and some folds and stuff.... I'm still not really that happy with my GS work... I think largely because I'm just sort of eyeballing it and not really envisioning the fluidity and movement of a real skirt. Still... i'll keep at it and hopefully it will be passable at least... maybe i should sketch out my GS work first in the future.

anyway. pic below.

I have got to tell you, it has made my day to see you back at this project. I was so sad to notice that it just dropped off the face of the earth. Keep it up, but don’t let your self get to far behind with the paint jobs. I’ve never found anything more intimidating then looking at all of my built minis realizing that it will take me years if I want to get them ready for the table top. I think staying about five to ten miniatures in is the best way to keep me from panicking when I pick up the brush and try to decide which one to paint. Keep it up I love your ladies!

Good to see you back Acidwap, does this mean you and Archibald Jack are playing again?

Oh, and having started playing Infinity I can totally understand your views on the GW style, there are some really beautiful figs out there if you go looking.

WOW guys.

Thanks for all the comments and encouragement. It means a lot to me to know there are people who like what I'm doing. HAHA Reading your comments will definitely keep me going.

@ meatshield: Cheers mate. Yeah completely agree. I'm actually just waiting delivery of a daylight lamp.... My apartment only has 50W halogen lights in the ceiling, and previously I've tried painting by a desk lamp but the colour variation that you get with halogen and daylight is just way too big. Once i get the lamp, I can start painting at night again... hooray!

@ blackhand: Yeah, that's the plan. We've both been very idle / non-existent on the wargaming / modeling / painting side of our lives this last year... jobs, family, etc.. usual stuff. .. But with xmas break just about to happen, we plan to get some games in again. I think the plan is to start over again. The last campaign, we played 6 games roughly and he shot my gang to bits in every single one of them. Var Sar are very hard to play at range i've learned.. Also my record breaking run of crap rolls didn't help either.. haha

BTW: if anyone has any pearls of wisdom reguarding how to play Escher gang, i'd be very glad to learn. I'm trying to play them according to their 'ethos', a gang that favours h2h while a few ranged attackers cover their advance.

@ Anunag Un Rama: Thank you.

@ CommissarKhaine: At the moment i'm undecided... Although I was happy with how that first attempt turned out. The 'frills' were still very big. It suited the GW mini ok becuase the GW mini details are a lot chunkier. But with an anima tactics mini so fine, i'd like to be able to sculpt much more delicate details, and at this point I've got no idea how to get such small detail happening with GW. The last couple of days i've been searching the web for sculpting tutorials, but most of what i find is geared towards skulpting fur, armour, or chainmail.. ... no so frilly fabric...

BTW: if anyone knows any sculpting tutorials for soft frilly fabric / frills / ruffles.. I'd be very glad to know.

anyway... thanks for the visit and comments guys.
i'll be posting some stuff up soon.

ok...UPDATE TIME!

hiya, ok didn't get much done these last couple of days due to much much ... well for lack of a better word... drinking.. haha Tis the season i guess! work Xmas party tomorrow night.

So I was still thinking about how to complete the dress for the lasgun ganger mini, and decided to try some pleats / folds. What do you guys think? Should i stick with folds or try to figure out how to model really tiny frills and ruffles.

I also started working on my next heavy... crucial to how I want to field my gang. I've already got a replacement (more or less) for the GW heavy stubber. My other heavy of course has to be a replacement for the GW Escher Heavy Plasma. My whole idea is that the heavys will be known as the 'The Twins' (or even the 'The Triplets') if I can afford it in my gang at a later stage... but I digress...

anyway, yeah, 'The Twins' .. one girl has a Heavy Stubber, the other has the Heavy Plasma, together they should be a pretty good duo, fire supression and sustained fire with the heavy stubber, and high strength AND sustained fire on the heavy plasma...

As before, started with Alice cut her right arm and shoulder off. (man imagine if someon read that sentence out of context)

Then created a pin / armature to reposition her arm in a different pose.

Next step is to add some GS and fill out the details. I'm gonna need to add some extra details for both heavys i think. Ammo belts and energy cables i think...

as always, and comments or criticism are welcome.

And if anyone has any tips on modeling frilly dresses / lace / ruffles, i'd be very interested.

thanks all.

Cover. With Escher, it's all about getting up close and personal. That means you want to keep your fighters safe, and to shield from fire once they've killed their first target. Make sure there is enough cover on the table, and use juves to draw away fire from the more valuable members. For skills, your girls have a combat advantage thanks to their equipment, So Agility skills for the sprint, leap, etc... are worth a lot more.

As for the Heavy Plasma gun; it's very expensive for what it does. Even when facing an Ogryn, the Heavy bolter/autocannon.stubber is lot more cost efficient IMO. You culd always equip your heavy with two regular plasma guns if you feel you need it.

Wow, that gun looks HUGE on that little girl

I mean, nothing against girls with huge guns, but this is beyond over the top. Though I can't think of an alternative right now.

I agree, got a bit caught up in the tactics part. Maybe have it slung underneath the arm? Assault cannon style?

@CommissarKhaine: thanks man, i think i must be underutilising their sprint and leap abilities then... Archibald and I don't have any of the original terrain and we've been using bits of plywood that we've cut to shape... it works pretty well but i think we've accidentally made it so a lot of the vertical supports actually leave people open to the front.. hahaha... It's fine for him, but not so good for my girls.. haha.

Hm... perhaps you guys are right about the size of the gun...

might try to remodel it or find a smaller equivalent. HEHE... still there is a certain charm to MASSIVE gun, little girl.. haha

thanks guys.

OK! .... UPDATE TIME.... though small

First of, even though it's after the fact merry xmas to all. Hope everyone had a happy and safe xmas. I certainly did, with much pork (in various forms), beer, and soju (korean rice wine) consumed my me and my friends and family. The last few days have been pretty much celebration mode for me but i have been thinking about how to address the size of her the plasma girl's gun.

I realised that the position I originally had the gun at was unrealistic for such a size of a gun, for such a little slim 'girl'. So i decided to match GW escher heavy plasma model in the way her gun is held. I actually compared them and the gun from Necromunda and 40k are actually the same size. It's just that since i was using a chaos gun, it had some extra details which made it look even larger.

After struggling for a few days, i'm now at a stage where i'm 'reasonably happy with how it looks, perhaps the green stuff arm segment needs to be reworked again but i'll wait until it dries so I can judge it fully. I had to move the trigger forward on the plasma gun as well as add a few bits and pieces here. Also becuase there was quite of lot of modification done to the right shoulder, i've had to also create some 'lace' to hide the join. I think it looks ok for now, and i'm happy that I was able to do it at a smaller scale that the last 'lace/frills' that I modelled with GS.

I've still got to add some pads to the end of the gun stock, and i'm waiting on deliver of some resin cables.

So far, this has been my most difficult conversion so far.... take a look

showing some of the shoulder join.

Well, that's it for now.... i've got to go out now but i've got some more stuff on the way, including the models i may use for my leader.

as always comments and criticism most welcome.
thanks for reading... and have a wonder new year!

I like this one a lot better, the pose is much more realistic. If you're not happy with the shoulder detail, you could add a shoulder pad, or maybe a strap for the heavy plasma gun?

Merry Xmas to you as well!

Funny. On your previous version, the gun looked so huge, I wasn't sure if it's supposed to be a plasma gun or cannon.

This looks great though! Now I can buy the whole "small girl huge gun"-thing.

Great stuff here, keep up the good work, not sure if they have been mentioned before but Heresy miniatures do some good female figures that could be quite easily converted

these for example:

Heya guys. Thanks for comments

@CommissarKhaine: Cheers, thanks man.... Yeah I had thought of maybe a shoulder pad... but I thought then it would look too out of place with her outfit... .. I think I may try again on the arm. Looking at it again today, it's really really lumpy and oddly positioned...

@Anung Un Rama: Thanks man... I think at this scale it's suppose to be a plasma cannon. It's the same size as the original GW escher heavy plasma canon, but to a Space Marine it's only a plasma gun if i'm not mistaken. Seeing as they are suppose to be super human size and all.. haha

@runmymouth: Thanks mate, that's the look i'm going for so i'm happy.

@DPBellathrom: OMFG... I never knew about this character or this game at all.... You're totally right! She is definitely right for my gang, I've just got to work out now which model to base it off. Thanks for the info and inspiration man.

@headnhalf: Thanks dude. Thanks for the suggestions. I've checked out heresy minis before and i've got quite a few Reaper minis in my collection already. Acutally reaper have a crap load of female minis... though I have to be selective about which ones i use because I'm after a specific look to them. Thanks for the tip all the same, if you know of any other mini manufactuerers out there that have minis i could use, definitely , if you know of any other mini from other manufactures that I should know about i'd, please do let me know.

anyway.... thanks for all the comments guys... big update coming tomorrow or day after.... heaps of stuff.... new gangers, new juves, new leaders! .... oh and finally some painting... here's a preview....
thanks for reading.

my Oyuki conversion mod, painting in progress... the basic colours are there, next stage is to add the details. Also I plan for her top half to be relatively pristine and clean, but then further and further down her kimono, it should get dirtier and dirtier.... as you would expect crawling around in the underhive.... barefoot no less .hahaha.
