@Kroothawk: 1 box of Specials and 4 additional sculpts.

Steel Legion is Armageddon, and didn't come out until 3E's Armageddon book.

What they could do to save production costs is to produce conversion packs that work in with the existing plastics. They could do sprues with torsos and heads of some other guard unit and another sprue with HQ options such as breastplates, fancy helmets etc. If it worked out then they could produce alternative legs and arms and so on.

I'd also like to see smaller guard so that the marines can actually be bigger than the mortals.

FW is not exactly sanctioned. It's more likely to be allowed than home-baked stuff, but not by much. And the Russ's can be taken as troops, but they still aren't scoring.

I would suggest something like this above, and for example some torsos with greatcoats. Heads with gasmasks and so on.

Except, GW saves very little production cost when they don't sell an entire model. It's why Black Templars are the only conversion kit out there, and *every* single variant SM/CSM (CSM, Possessed, Dark Angels Veterans, Space Wolf Pack, Space Wolf Terminators, Death Company, Sanguinary Guard) since then has been of whole models with lots of options. GW got less of a return from having to sell two boxes to build one unit, instead of one larger box with (some) direct content and a huge amount of "bonus" bitz. You can see this strategy also playing out with the 3-in-1 Hellhound, 2-in-1 Russ & Baneblade, 5-in-1 Shadowsword, along with the Ironclad and Veteran Dreads.

Guard-wise, we want Greatcoat (Krieg) infantry, which could be done with greatcoat legs and full-face helmets for the Cadian base. The problem is that it's easier to simply sculpt the torso as part of the legs, and just sell an entire box of 10 guys. Also, it kind of limits GW's ability to differentiate Krieg from Cadia when they all use identical weapons, and wear identical torso & arm gear. Plus, as a bonus, all-new sculpts pretty much ensures that everything stays in-scale.

Really, the partial model stuff is something that a 3rd party company does better, as they can leverage GW for the base model and just sell loads of conversion stuff. Like Pig Iron and Chapterhouse.

All that said, I'd like to see:
- plastic Krieg / Valhallan in greatcoats and gasmasks
- plastic Tallarn / Tanith light infantry in camo cloaks

What is out there already are enough....I mean you have the plastic cadians and catachans, and in metal valhallans, tallarn, mordian, praetorian, vostroyans, and steel legion...you can always order the elysians and the death korps from FW if you like new resin stuff.....

The new LR kit is also coming out...as a long time IG player I haven't seen this much love from GW for the IG as what we have today, so I am more than satisfied with GW regarding this....there are more than enough parts from FW to make the tanks which do not have releases yet (for example a collossus from the FW bombard, hydras and the manticore parts, etc..)

If you are asking about new IG armies from players, well the IG is really a major investment compared to SM armies. You need to collect and paint a LOT of infantry and tanks, so in this regard full IG armies will of course be churned out by the players at a much slower pace than SM.

I love the marines stuff, so far I've never got the black templar add on sprues because I'm not interested in what was on them. There was limited appeal whereas the Ravenwing and DA stuff was great for conversions as it had bits that weren't just DA versions of stuff already out there. A generic guard add on or add ons could be a cheap way to provide more variety to the guard and still be specific to the game and legal for competitions. I realise there are lots of head options out there, but how open are GW to bodies from their competitors being used?

Guard-wise, we want Greatcoat (Krieg) infantry, which could be done with greatcoat legs and full-face helmets for the Cadian base.

I'd have thought any interesting looking alternative would be appreciated so long as it was fully clothed. Just one more plastic guard army though would give four possible looks to base guard armies on, somthing other than oversized Rambos.

I'd like to see Napoleonic era heavy cavalry types, chest armour, plumed helmets etc but as infantry. It can't be that difficult to modify the cadian sprue to give plastic stormtroopers either.

LOL, GW is making off like a bandit whenever they sell anything. Their average return on their plastic models is 170%.

Greatcoats would be lovely, but then they'd be stepping on the FW line.

I don´t like metallmodells. They are awful to work with and they all fall apart if you look angry enogh at them. So there goes Valhallans, Tallarns, Mordians, Praetorians and Vostroyans.

GW should make one kit with greatcoats and heads with and without gasmask and one grenadierskit. (And no I don´t like to use Kasrkinmodells, not because I think they are ugly, but they are stormtroopers not grenadiers.)

i would love a krieg plastic army i know its been said before about how easy it would be and how it would add flair to the guard players out there.
also a krieg/steel legion plastics could start a huge campaign / special edition (3rd war of Armageddon huge final campaign)
but remember we're in a ressession and GW is being as conservative as possible, thats why all the new SM products and spin off chapters

btw GW is too busy with their precious Blood Angels and other SMs. i wish they would actually give a little TLC to the Guard

I slightly disagree;

Vostroyans = Russian Czarist Armies or White Guards of the Civil War

This is based only on the uniforms.

Vahallans = WWII Soviet Red Army

IMHO, of course.

Cadians are generic. The name reminds me either of Canadians or Acadians, probably more the latter because the french colonies of Canada were grouped into a land called Acadia.

Kasr on the other hand is arabic for fort and no doubt there are other influences too.

I think each army should atleast have1.) some form of models in plastic atleast and have 2.) different rules

1.
smaller IG armies should have maybe a box worth £25 or so which is 10 men but with lots and lots of kit so from it you can either make a squad, command squad, support squad, heavy weopon squad etc. and if they have storm troopers or others group them up into acceptable boxes.

2.
Armies in IG should have different rules or skills.
e.g. Cadia. better def, toughness and shooting
Catachan: better toughness and CC skill
Vostroyan: better toughness and loyalty
Mordia: higher leadership or something or other
and other stuff too
