I still dont understand why there is no new guard armies released by Games workshop I mean they are the most versatile (making wise) out of all the other 40k armies IMO

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

you mean like variants? Vostrens, Catachan and such.

Catachan has an codex online somewhere. I don't know if it is sanctioned.

The Armored Company is a sactioned codex that can be downloaded from Forge world (Lemun Russ's as troops FTW)

GW has cut all of the customization out of the last impierial codexs. SMs used to be able to select traits and disadvantages and Guard were the same till the new Dexs. you could buy Carapace armor for all your models for a dirt cheap price and you might not be able to pick certain units along with it, but so what.

GW has really made some people mad with their taking out of charactor possabilities.

Well, the most annoying thing they do is rewrite codexes to make certain units completely weak and/or disappear entirely, which is utter pants... and they do it all the time. Intentional or not, it sucks.

I agree that Guard should have more variant models; not sure they need "rules" per se; their codex is flexible enough to play several types. Any variant rules should be modest at best.

For such a massive organisation as the imperial guard there should be way more guard variants. And A hole host of Characters

It is intentional. It's called NMS (New Model Syndrome) GW makes the old things that were good bad & the old things that were bad or the new things good so you go out & buy more models & they get more money.

Because guards are not popular enough compared to SM to warrant them with so many variant factions.
Sure you have them in fluffs but not so much in models , because they want to push Space Marines , their Flagship Product.

I'd like to see the steel legion return with some new models, the gas masks just bring back that sense of world war 2 desperation and fear.

So this about variants?
Last time GW poured out one, Vostroyans, all were metal.

I'd rather have some existant lines turn to plastic.

IIRC, IG has:

Cadia = basic IG , modern
Catachan = jungle, nam
Valhalla = ice world, russia
Tallarn = desert world, north afrika
Mordian = hive world, parade uniform
Vostroya = napoleonic design
Armageddon = ashe wastes, mechanized
Krieg = trench war, WW1
Elysian = paratroopers

Move the 3 non-FW and non-campaign armies to plastic ( Tallarn, Valhalla,Mordian ) and be done.

Yeah, why has GW only produced 10 completely different variants of Imperial Guard armies, while they flood the market with one variant each of the other 10 armies

You forgot Praetorians (Victorian British Empire). And Vostroya is based on late 19th century Tsarist Russia. Valhalla Russia WW2. Mordia US West Point. Steel Legion/Armageddon German (paratroopers) WW2.

Forgot the Mordians with head-swaps? Ok, there were pratorians ( for a very short time ).

Maybe the vostroyans go where the praetorians are right now.......OOP.

Sucks don't it.

If i recall correctly, there are also about eight Tanith metal models, but that's not really important.

Basically, the Guard are the most diverse army in 40k, and so need the models (plastic) for it. SM don't really need so many different models, it can be based mainly on paint schemes for variation, same for, ummm... Nids, Eldar, Chaos, Necrons, Tau, well...wow, EVERYONE ELSE.

To summarise, we, like the the Dark Eldar, are long overdue a re-haul of models (just not a new Codex).

If GW is listening, plastic Vostroyans would be much appreciated

I don't play as much as I could. I blame society! And ninjas

Wehrkind: "Nah, see he yells the order, and when everyone looks at him and say "What?" he grabs the vox, hits a guy with it and screams "CAN YOU HEAR MY NOW?!" into the mouth piece. Works like a charm "

Funny thing to do on L4D [if you own the server] Bind the tank music to a key, then at quiet moments press it and start firing like mad at something behind your team whilst screaming 'tank' on voice comms.

Nids can just be conversions and such. Guard armies have different specific armors, uniforms, lasgun patterns, etc. that you don't all get from Cadians or Catachans.

The guard book's versatile enough to do any kind of guard army you can think of. Way better than that horrible trait system from Fourth Ed.

It actually would be really nice for them to release some of the other regiments in plastic and really it wouldnt take that much work and boost there sales a bit. All they would really need to do is make a command box, heavy weapons boc and a infantry box and there they just pumped out a brand new guard army. I have only ever seen one other guard army that WASNT cadians and thats one of my good friends who uses vostroyans first born and there quite nice and a great change from the cadians being one of the main reasons he picked them up. With all the guard running around he wanted to be able to stand out one way or another.

IG have had plenty of love recently.

New codex -
New variant catachan and cadian.
New Leman Russ variants _+ plastics
New Transport options Valk and Vendetta
New Fast attack - Hellhound variants
New Super heavies.

Other regiments would be nice in plastic but probably wont see the light of day. Gw would have to commit to new molds, tooling and other production costs (which is expensive in plastic). The other regiments are in metal because GW see these a low volume sellers. I'm not sure a few people saying they want more options justifies investments in plastic tooling.

If nobody buys the other 9 guard variants, why should GW produce another one?
BTW nothing is simpler than doing a new variant using Pig Iron/Westwind/Ramshackle/Maxmini heads or any of those human SciFi/Pulp armies of other manufacturers (e.g. Starship Trooper or Warzone for plastics).

I didn't forget them, as they were mentioned in the post above mine (only one box of special characters though IIRC).
Add Mordians and Steel legion to 2E metals.

BTW more plastic non-GW IG-models by AT-43 (UNA and Red Block), incl. Sentinels.

Didn't the Catachan codex pretty much flop in 3rd edition? That was despite it also being a 'jungle battle' codex as well.

As a huge Imperial Guard fan I realise that the only thing that's ever really going to happen to Guard is that they release a modified Vahallan and Steel Legion combined plastic set.

And even then, if they do that, the internet will whinge that neither of them ever look 'quite right.'
