Uh, I don't really see the problem here. Every codex has their ridiculous Deus Ex Machina "I'm a genius/am unbeatable/immortal" whatever. And he's not a Mary Sue, I really think people are over-using a phrase they don't understand. Mary Sues are ludicrously empowered author proxies that are obvious stand-ins for the writer, are generally incapable of failing even as all the baddies/trials/problems in the story all revolve around said character for inexplicable reasons. Think gak like Bella in Twilight, or Luke in the original Star Wars trilogy: nobodies who are obvious personifications of author fantasies who manage to save the world/town/universe because they're the chosen one or whatever.
And re: the Necron section... I don't think the idea of Necrons having personalities and alliances against a common threat is an abomination so much as it is an obvious confirmation that Ward is gonna be revamping the 'cron fluff significantly. I can certainly see why a Necron Lord would "ally" himself with the BA: Bigger threat is coming, the 'crons are gonna be killing things either way, and the BA would obviously take the active threat of a Tyranid fleet more seriously than the lingering threat of a 'cron Tomb World. As such, knowing the BA will relent either way, the 'crons kill the Tyranids that threaten their tomb world. Later, the BA and crons are too decimated even to finish each other off, so the 'cron Lord is faced with a choice: Use the BA retreat to self-repair, as there's no way the Imperials will leave a known Tomb World alone for long anyway, or risk utter destruction by trying to engage them once more.
It's even said in the current 'cron dex that Necrons certainly possess a measure of self-preservation, and in the fluff we usually only see them fighting to the last because there's an important reason for a suicide attack: a lost relic or awakening a C'Tan or whatever.
The Crons want to kill every living thing in the galaxy, but they're also incredibly patient and led by intelligent star-vampires. We're talking "wait in stasis for 60 million years" levels of patience and "let's make sure this race has a gene we can exploit to fight Empyrean-spawned enemies" levels of intelligence.
And the BA had a reason to retreat: Space Marines are freaking valueable, and hard to replace. Dante isn't going to risk the well-being of the chapter over some 'crons that can't be feasibly be defeated at the moment.

You know, Ostrakon's right.
Real reason: It's a good thing that Necrons are being given some hint of a personality.
Funny reason: Sanguinor can't be a marty stu because he doesn't end up making love to the most attractive female in the fluff (whoever that might be in 40K). I mean really, read moar fanfics.
(Side note: I'd be interested to see what kind of Twilight fanfics people come up with, given it's already got all the mary sue-ness one coulod wish for "Oh god, a vampire wants me, but so does this werewolf, and now they make super dramatic gestures of love")

Exactly. All he does is blow up some already powerful things by being super double secret powerful himself. He doesn't talk, he doesn't succeed against impossible odds, he just enables BA to win impossible fights by being a personified plot device. He's way more Captain Planet than he is Creed. Also, has this guy been in any BA books, or anywhere outside of the Codex? No, he hasn't, so there's really nothing to worry about. All he is a reference to a silent, mysterious force that the BA claim to witness and shows up and wins crap practically on their own. Nids get the Swarmlord described like this, Eldar have it with Eldrad and the Avatar, SM have Calgar, etc. I'm sure when Codex: Crons comes out, The Deceiver will trick Sanguinor into serving Khorne, and then in Codex: DE some DE hero will trap the Deceiver in a magic torture flask or something. (Side note: I'd be interested to see what kind of Twilight fanfics people come up with, given it's already got all the mary sue-ness one coulod wish for "Oh god, a vampire wants me, but so does this werewolf, and now they make super dramatic gestures of love") I imagine (as it happens in most fanfics) that it would involve Bella dying in some miserable, bloody way, followed by replacing every instance of her name with the name of the author.

Forget the fluff from the BA vs Necrons "oh gak here come splinter hive fleet let's make a truce and kick bug ass", here's what really happened:
"Splinter fleet enter the sector, at the first hint of bug on the horizon all the necron forces vanish in the blink of an eye (because if you forgot Necron forces facing overwhelming odds WILL do that and they do so fluff and rules-wise) when all their forces have safely teleported inside the tomb ships, they phase out and watch the nids DESTROY the tampon angels" and even more original yet a little far fetched "as the mass off tyranids rains from the sky onto the two armies, the Angels are faced with some weird change in behaivour from the Necrons, all their warriors have suddenly entered a stand-by state and froze on the spot, the BA have hardly any time to ponder on the sudden change of behavour from their former enemies as the scuttling horde rushes to meet them. Suddenly they realise, they are using the bug to do their dirty job, after all they are not made of organic matter. After the BA are PWNED by the critters, and reap the planet of resources they necron forces re- activate themselves and change course evading the hive fleet".
I mean after all why on earth would the necrons BOTHER killing tyranids, it is clear both races have no interest in each other to the point of evading one another.
P.D.: gak man they should hire me to write the fluff... Epic should be handed out in small doses, this Sanguinor crap stinks of "we've run out of ideas!" >_<

Then I read his fluff and raged even harder. He's like an 'I Win' button in the fluff. He pops out of thin air and single-handedly wins the day. I know each codex makes its own army seem like the best in 40k, but this is just ridiculous. There isn't a single mention in the codex of the Sangunior being bested by anyone. He apparently... ahem, flies up into the air with a Bloodthirster and drops it to its death.

In other words, the BA codex is, fluffwise, the most ridiculous pile of gak in 40k. You thought Ultramarines were the worst? Think again, Dakka.

Yes, the Sanguinor is a little Deus Ex Machina-y. But then, when he's a demon manifest of the Blood Angel's psychic need, he sort of should be. At least he struggled with the Blood Thirster, where as Sanguinus just snapped one in half.
As for the Silent King, it sounds like the Platinum-Level Necron Lords are getting names, personalities and independent thought. We've known about them since Apocalypse of course, but this is the first time one's been named and its actions described.

The necrons would bother killing tyranids because the tyranids are trying to strip the galaxy of all organic mass. The necrons are trying to harvest all organisms. If the tyranids killed and absorbed it all, the necrons would not only be out of organisms to harvest but also out of anyway to allow organisms to re-evolve again, since the tyranids would have all the biomass instead of said biomass being on the planets to allow organic evolution. It's not like organic biomass just pops into existence (big bang excluded). So the necrons would fight the tyranids on basis of "this is our galaxy to destroy, not yours!"

but there are like 3 rumors about him personally I like the one that says that he is Askellon founder of the sanguinary guard.
The other fluff story to me seems really dumb the fact that he is just warp energy taken a human foarm. lame

Like everything in the BA codex, it looks like a stretch. They were so out of ideas on how they could make this codex that much more unique, and special that they came up with this slowed fluff.
How long will this trend continue? I seriously hope this is just a lapse in judgement, because if overly ridiculous is going to be a constant writing tool they use, I'll pass on even reading the fluff section.
Also, the Sanguinor just kills an Avatar like nothing? Didn't Calgar have some epic battle with one that lead him to be hurt super bad for awhile, and isn't Calgar like a 'Lord Among Super-Men'?

Yeah, in gameplay, Avatars are not that great. I have seen one get solo'd by three chosen.
What bothers me is that a fluff Avatar is amazing. Like, almost kills Fulgrim amazing. And then the Sanguinor brushes one off?
It irks me.

This guy killing a Bloodthirster/Avatar is very literally equal to a Tau Firewarrior appearing out of thin air to kill a SM commander in hand to hand combat.
I despise the way GW continues to drag superbeings down to a level equal to SMs so they can be defeated by them. It's bad enough that Eldar act a bunch of clown-shoes, clumsy retards any time you read about them fighting SMs. Now SMs have a magic character that shows up out of nowhere, kills gods, and disappears? GWs SM favoritism has resulted in some of the most horribly drab and contrived writing I've ever seen.
Perfect heroes + flawed, weak villains = Incredibly boring stories. Yet it appears to be GWs favorite formula.

I don't understand where all this hate has come from the BA aren't the only army to have a super fluffy unit.
Vanilla marines have access to the legion of the damned which in my opinion are far worse in comparison, and yet you don't get people complaining about them.
Legion of the Damned 10 man squads of uber SM's vs 1 Sanguinor.
Bearing in mind BA don't have access to Legion of the Damned it all evens up in the end.
Another example of fluffy rules Tyranids get the opportunity to spawn massive numbers of free units, again no outpouring of hate.
Does it really impact the game that much to allow players access to one character that could possibly beat MC's like Trygons in close combat. Besides a few well placed heavy weapon shots or even enough small arms fire would be able to kill him before any serious damage is done.
And at the end of the day fluff is just fluff, if you took everything that is written as gospel you would go insane as every new novel/codex/rule book contradicts each other.

Game 2 - Dead by orks on the charge (then again... orks walk over pretty much anything on the charge)
Game 3 - Survives 3 turns of lascannon fire, only to be killed in hand to hand by the same person holding said lascannon.
And he's 275pts... i mean WTF.. he is NO WHERE near abbadon's level of power... yet we are paying for the same cost as one?
