I like Manga better, but Anime is fine too sometimes.
I don't really care if its Japanese or not, I like DBZ because I like martial arts.
I also like One Piece, Naruto, not so much.
Pirates are better than ninjas
Oh, and once read this series called Pet Shop of Horrors. It's actually pretty good. But they only made 4 episodes of the Anime. Sadface.

You like them because you hate them?
There was this masochist who like a hot shower in the morning so he had a cold one.
A masochist and a sadist were in bed together.
Masochist: "Hurt me, hurt me!"
Sadist: "NO!!"
Both were satisfied.

Because it's far more interesting than normal television, and I find the comic continuity far too difficult to enter into unless you've been following along for years.
Anime isn't limited to The Big Three shounen series out at the moment (Bleach, Naruto, One Piece). My favourite is a rather sombre seinen called "Bokurano". I recommend people check it out if they want a change of pace from the stuff shown on Adult Swim.

I try to find mangas with lots of chapters already, cause It sucks when you catch up and have to wait a week for the next chapter.. One Piece is hitting almost 600, I would say each boss fight/era of manga might last from 30-50 chapters each, meaning It's going to take from half a year to who knows when to move on. :(

Generally, I think Manga and Anime is a total waste of time. Then again, I'm bombarded with it everywhere I go. However, I like my Hokuto no ken and LupinIII.

I can't stand most of it, with exception of some things. And what I liked back then seems so horrible now.
Excell Saga, both the manga and anime are big exceptions, I enjoy them both immensely.
I also enjoy the abridged series of Dragonball Z and Yu-Gi-Oh, which make crappy series all the more enjoyable.

I find the dramatic sound affects (Mostly Japanese, but English also) to be annoying. That said, I don't read a lot of this stuff. And, being a country bumbkin, what I do have acess to is fairly limited.
I was reading in the ABC book section (I did buy it later), when a guy up from Brisbane came in asked the attendant where the manga section was. The store was about the size of a living room, if there was a manga section, I'm pretty sure it would be hard to miss.

I think a lot of Anime is drastically over hyped, but there is some good stuff out there.
I liked:
Escaflowne (anime)- Giant steampunk robots and a ridiculously OTT plot involving a girl who teleports whenever she experiences strong emotions? Alright!
Appleseed (Manga and Anime)- cool utopia maybe gone wrong cyberpunk stuff. Especially love the designs.
Full Metal Panic and Full Metal Panic Fumoffu- I actually prefer the spoof version Fumoffu to the serious version, but both are good. Romantic comedy + giant robots.
7 Kingdoms- Really interesting fantasy epic, quite sad it's not going to be finished now.
Grave of the Fireflies- Seriously moving. One of the saddest things I've ever watched.
Evangelion- Mostly good, goes a bit wierd at the end.
RahXephon- a re-imagining of Evangelion that I enjoyed more, although it's less "deep".
Spirited Away- Nice kids film.
Princess Mononoke- Pretty decent fantasy adventure.
Cowboy Bebop- Entertaining space opera.
I've seen a lot of other stuff, but that's what immediately jumps to mind.

I like the series that have interesting plots and characterization. I also like series that have a definite ending point.
I'm getting to a point where I am tired of anime that is set in high school, and I do not like Magical Girls.
My favorites are Full Metal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop, Paradise Kiss, REC, and Hellsing. I am currently watching Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood.
I prefer subs to dubs, however, a lot of the Adult Swim dubs are pretty good. Cowboy Bebop's dub is actually better than the sub in my opinion.

Hi Pika
Had a look at Bokurano and it has become quite interesting. Am up to episode 5 already so that means I will see it through.
I thought the robot fights were a bit tame, but they are not the feature that creates tension in the story. There is sinister undercurrent which is compelling.
I am really sad now I finished watching Natsume Yuujin Chou. It is a lovely gentle anime that makes a great change of pace from the power up bash em up stuff.
I guess if you like Spirited Away this will appeal.

I don't like anime.
There are series and movies I like, but the entire genre leaves me with a feeling of 'meh' more often than not.
Things like Fang of the sun, Battle Armour Dougram, Crusher Joe, Armour trooper VOTOMS, Venus wars, Appleseed and Ghost in the shell I like.
Stuff like Bakugan, dragonball, pokemon, etc - are part of the BESM stuff I despise.

The robot fights are definitely not the main attraction. In the manga, a couple of the fights are even skipped.
You're watching the anime? Okay, but if you like it, I strongly suggest having a look at the manga, as the anime only follows the manga to a certain point, and it dulls some things down.

Ooo...Naruto and Bleach are getting interesting in the Anime, as each series is about to have their primary characters take on a significant and challenging opponent that will have defining changes for their characters.

I've been slow to get into anime. Never saw much of it (Voltron aside) until college and then fell for Bebop and Nausicaa but could not get into Eva. Well, I saw the first Eva re-release movie recently and was amazed. Picked up FMA soon afterward and also amazed. Have been watching Gundam00 recently and, despite a slow start, am really getting into it. So, to answer OP's first question, I guess what I like about anime is how OTT romantic/adventuresome it is and how much melodrama and epic nonsense it can get away with (for whatever reason)--stuff that current live action stuff . . . as in Firefly or Battlestar . . . fails pretty miserably at no matter what else it does well.

Manchu, the melodrama in BSG was top-notch melodrama. Particularly when dealing with Kara and Lee. But anyway...
WarOne--I stopped watching Naruto when it went into its two year filler phase. Before that it was decent. Bleach started going into the same place. I've heard they both got better, but two years is an awfully long time to wait for such. Bleach and Naruto are both part of the reason I prefer shorter animes.

They have improved
but the filler thing is baffling - why they do that
Bleach seemed to go all over the place at one point and the Bleach Beach episode I skipped completely. Didn't bother watching it for a while after that.

It was between the Sasuke vs Naruto fight and the start of Shippudenn.
I've read Naruto upto when Naruto goes all froggy, If you read It, you will understand.

They're based off manga. They get ahead of the manga, so have to use filler to wait until the manga updates.

for some reason, i think anime would be better if they would end for a bit until the manga updates rather than using filler arcs.

It is a matter of taste, I'm sure. In my view, the relationship between Lee and Kara was handled very poorly and was--like most aspects of BSG--yet another vehicle for endless, ultimately meaningless plot twists. In any case, I'm not really talking about erotic relationships so much as a certain naiveté and idealism. American pop media seem obsessed with equating cynicism and coolness. I find that many characters in animes reject this worldview (over and against even central characters) and find that refreshing.
