Im laughing so hard at the middle two.

The nid is exactly what happens when an average sculptor attempts to create an Alien but also make it original. I love it though.

So are you saying the guy who sculpted the old warrior also sculpted the new SW guy on the giant furry guy on the "alien thing called a wolf that isn't a wolf"?

This thread makes me sad... I had nearly all of those marine and chaos models back in the day. After a long absence from the game I sold everything (for cheap!!!) on ebay.

Feels more "war-like" than the stuff GW produces nowadays. And I always get a chuckle out of how some of the models look...especially the Tyranid warriors lol

Do you have a link!?

Fantastic thread - it was in the heady days of 2nd Ed that I got into 40K. Those old models were so different to anything out there and the paint jobs were just so evocative.

I've still got a few of those old figures. Its interesting to see how many have stood the test of time (vs. those that just look awful in comparison to todays standards)

The days of primary colours. Red, Yellow, Blue: is there anything they can't do?

Those Dreads look great and cheesy and...great and cheesy. The dork on the Khorne Dread...I had forgotten about that. We use to play it as a once per battle flamer attack.

I think the thing that impresses me the most is just how good of a sculptor Jes Goodwin is. You can see Mepheston and Dante in a bunch of those pics (most of those are 15-20 years old) and those two figs especially look just as good as any models coming out now.

You have to remember that most of the terrible/basic sulpts are actually RT era; Meph and Dante are very late 2nd edition (the pic is actually from my Codex: Angels of Death), by which time the first Hive Tyrant, new genestealers, new Libby, washing machine dreads etc had all come out as well.

In a world gone mad, who is left to fight for truth, justice and all that gets you smashed for under a fiver....

First played 40k during 2nd edition, missed out 3rd and 4th, and haven't played 40k since 5th edition - but still read and occasionally paint

Ive dug out my old eldar minis recently, they've all stood the test of time. I love how when they remade the dreadnought they barely changed the model at all. Lovely.
