Lol. True. Starship Troopers might as well be the IG movie.

A Space Marines movie? Really? Sigh...I agree, expect the worst. I have a little hope, since it can't possibly be as bad as I think it will.

And I understand why its about the Ultramarines, really I do. Writers of the codex astartes...the paragons of their brethren...a shining example of warrior discipline. Yeah, I get it. The Imperium would fall apart without them. They're everywhere.

They are as useful as asphalt. We need them to get anywhere and do anything. But...as much as I dont want to live in a world without asphalt, I don't want to see a movie about it either.

Welcome to the Freakshow!

This is getting a cinema release? Really? It's like Rocklords all over again!

I wouldn't think so. Coming to GW stores near you soon! (though I hope normal DVD stores too, can't see GW discounting it).

If it is a GW only release, then I would like to correct your post as:

"Coming soon to a Bittorrent or Rapidshare site near you soon!"

Who am I kidding? Its going there no matter how its released.

In the past when they tried a Warhammer 40k movie it crashed hard. I mean so hard it was hard to look 40k in the eyes the next morning because of the unspeakable things they did to it. So as with many Ill come my hopes low so they never fail me

They could fly jets over every household, dropping copies for free as they go, and there'd still be people saying "It's too expensive!" or "I won't pay to watch the Ultramarines! I want to see a more culturally rich Chapter!" etc etc.

For my money? An Ultramarines movie is a good way to start off any potential films they're doing, especially as animation. Depending on how/when the movie is set(ex: the Tyranid invasion of Ultramar or if it's the Damocles Gulf Crusade) we won't just see the Ultramarines, but the Guard as playing a small part or a background force involved. Ultramarines, while being so "bland" are also a good choice just because they're the most human of all the Space Marine Chapters. They'll be easier to relate to than Space Wolves, Blood Angels, Black Templars, etc.

If you're referring to "Bloodquest": the technology's come a long way since then.

If you're referring to the live action shorts that they did for the early SSI games, then again--the technology has(again) come a long way since then but it's moot anyways since it's an animated film. And if you're referring to "Damnatus"--that wasn't a GW effort. At all.

Outside of those, they've never really attempted a Warhammer 40k movie.

I have a sneaking suspicion that that's the way most of us are going to see it before we choose to buy it.

I'm sure Netflix or any form of rental service will have it available.

That all depends on who is distributing the movie.

Knowing their IP department, they'll want full control over it, meaning only through their stores and FLGS retailers.

I'm not very sure about that. They don't do it with videogames and novels. Well, maybe they do it with novels where they sell them in english. In Spanish at least it doesn't happens. Novels aren't published here by Black Library, they are licensed to a Spanish publisher. So we find them in LGS, bookstores, malls...

I guess this DVD will be sold in a few DVD stores. Unless GW makes a huge campaign promoting the movie, I can see it being sold in less places than DoW.

Edit: I'm always talking about the sales in Spain. The popularity level of GW games can't be compared between UK and Spain. It's much lower here.

Teasers never show anything. "Nothing to see here, move along people"!!

As for "will the movie be good"? $100 it won't be rated R or even MA15+. Lets face it, the SM novels are full of blood and guts. Whatever the SM's fight, they will be alien or robot in nature. Mmm green blood.

Still, I have hope. Not much, but some.

Well... the trailer sucked. That's all I can say for that.

Slightly more than a minute and we get a slow zoom up to one marine and that's it...

If more of us valued food and cheer and 40K over hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.

Gah, that was a horrible piece of ad copy that they gave Mr. Hurt to read.

Solution to Chapter problems.

Special Features: Use the Army Painter to turn the movie into your own Chapter! Just follow the instructions and the marines in the movie will have the armour colour and chapter symbol you dictate! Additional units for the movie and chapter symbols beyond the loyalist founding chapters must be bought separately. Coming next year, buy the Chaos expansion!

Being able to choose chapter colours would be kinda neat in theory.

Edit: I liked the grizzled look, that he was bald, and that he looked like he was contemplating battle. He wasn't at a peaceful thinking place, he was in a thinking place full of death, destruction, and carnage of all sorts.
