Gwar! wrote:In fairness, all we know is that it is the 41st millennium.

We have no idea what that millennium is actually based off. It's more than likely arbitrary.

Not quite. It seems that it's actually the 42nd millenium now. The current date given in the latest Ciaphas Cain novel is that of the 42nd. GW finally decided to advance the timeline, but made it so subtle nobody noticed. Sneaky gits.

Maybe the Emprah was Jeebus in a past life?
And Buddha?
Mohammed?
And Hanuman (though come to think of it he isn't a giant monkey who tried to eat the sun. Or a peace loving uber-hippie)

I don't think that we're at a specific time at the moment, nor were we ever. All the new fluff that comes out takes place at a slightly different time, be it sooner or later. I think we can say we're still hovering around the 41st century, sometimes venturing out into the 42nd, more often going back to the 40th and earlier.

Yeah, true, but several times I've noticed characters are a little older than they say because of it listing them in timelines at slightly....of points.

Honestly, I like to think that they measure time from roughly when Earth was created, or something close to it, which makes their 41st millenium much closer to or 21st.
I like to believe that all this all-out-universal-war business actually started with the Large Hadron Collider, and the sh*t really hits the fan in 2012.

Well, There's my two cents.

They follow the same system we use. The current year in their timeline is 10.M3.

Like many things in the Imperium, it exists because it does, and no-one can be bothered to do anything about it.

Also, the current date using the Imperial Method of dating is: 1.518.010.3

The front bit is the fraction of the year out of 1000. Its currently the 189th day out of 365, so rounding up that comes to 518. The very front is the accuracy of the date, taken by degrees of distance from Terra, with 1 being on the planet and therefor most accurate, all the way up to 9, which is for events that happen within the warp.

wouldn't you think THIS has something to do with it?

This is more of a Mathematical question than a background question, but how do the Administratum keep the dates Syncronised between worlds that have different year lengths? Just PM me if you know the answer and don't want to clutter up the thread.

Everything is based on Terran standard time. Don't forget The Imperium has actually declared Earth the center of the Galaxy!

Hahaha, yeah, I do know that, I actually meant to say: When the earth was created, or something much sooner, but before the big J's birth.
Thanks for pointing that out.

I don't see why it should be called Common Era since it doesn't see anymore common than any other timeline.

I find it has something to do with how everyone (or at least many people on the internet and one guy I know) have different interpretations on what "common sense" is. saying something is the generally accepted truth on a subject is, well, I don't know, quite presumptuous?

It hints in one of the Horus Heresy books, i think its false gods that the Emperor was St George
