thanks a lot

It was being worked on when Warhammer historical pretty much ceased and got absorbed by forgeworld. Considering how long it took to get the new WAB released it might take awhile... just like the Over the top supplement for The Great War, the Samurai supplement, the War of the Roses supplement, etc...

WAB is fairly popular among non-GW wargamers. There are various other rules which are more popular, though.

I don't see the point of WHWW2 because FoW brought new thinking with a broadly similar set of rules and has become very popular.

Perhaps FW think they could tap into the market for 15mm vehicles which FoW created.

Someone posted something about he hoped you would be able to use other company's models with the rules. That's the GW centric thinking which FW could exploit. The point of historical wargames is that you can use any rules and models.

Well, the rumor was that it was going to be a 20mm wargame.

Which is a very odd in-between scale.

It is more popular than you might think.

20mm was widely used in the early days and fell from popularity in historicals, being replaced by 25mm or 15mm. It is making a come-back.

20mm was very popular in the 80s and 90s for modern skirmish. It fits well with 1/72 scale model kits making it an excellent choice for a game to include vehicles since there is a massive range available and they are cheap and light. If you wanted to play large battles, you used 6mm.

15mm moderns have come on a lot thanks largely to FoW. Their motive in promoting that scale is to try and lock players into their own models. FoW appeals to the GW generation of wargamers, providing a pick up and play experience where you buy the whole package off the shelf from one company. That is definitely a valid approach, but it does not invalidate the more traditional method of players putting together a game from a rule-set here, a bunch of figures there, and a set of vehicles from Hasegawa and Italeri.

There are still plenty of companies making 20mm figures in metal. There are also two companies making WW2 figures in hard plastic. There are lots of true 1/72 scale soft plastic figures on the market, which have the advantage of being very cheap.

I don't know how well the hard plastic 20mm 1/72 scale figures mix with metal.

FOW isn't the only WWII game by a longshot, and FOW doesn't really compete with GW games. Very separate demographics with marginal overlap, and very different style of games.

Actually there are quite many out there that switch from 40K to FoW or play both games.

Oh, there's a lot of people that play both, or have switched. But still a very small overlap % wise between the two groups of people.

WORLD WAR 2.

So fifth edition C:IG then, instead of third edition.

No-one will force you to play if you don't like it.

Try Napoleonics for a change. There are only six types of units.

Line infantry
Light infantry
Heavy cavalry
Light cavalry
Field artillery
Horse artillery

If you are the Russians you can have Cossacks too. Late war French can have lancers.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea, I'm just being snarky. I was actually quite interested in FoW, and if I had the money I'd expandin to it.

From what I've seen at shows 20mm is very popular. If the rules are good this could be a very good thing.

I don't think it will pull me away from 15mm and FoW though. I've invested too much into it to change scale just like that.

From what I've heard Rob Broom was the force behind the samurai supplement and seeing as he's no longer with Warhammer Historical... Also, there were WoTR lists in the Age of Chivalry book, were they going to release something more for it?

Possibly. Battlefront has probably 50 staff and there must be well over 5000 former GW staff. So about 1%.

I'd say the number of GW players that have moved to FOW is less than 5%. Number of FOW players that played/play GW games is probably less than 30%. Both based on conversations with the heads of BF miniatures, who I expect would have better numbers on the demographic playing their games than most.
