I'm not a business owner, but there may be legal issues why drinking is not allowed in certain establishments (IE: game stores). I'd check with store owners/event organizers beforehand about drinking at future events. There may even be insurance/liability issues that dictate to the store owner what is/is not acceptable behavior.
Not dogging on a person for enjoying a drink, but there may be legal issues why drinking can not be allowed.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby. |

He did not imply it was Pepsi he was offering. He definitely made some of the other people in the store uncomfortable. One even mentioned it was illegal by the state to have that kind of drink in the store. Dash made it clear he did not care. If it was just Pepsi he should have said he was just joking and left it at that. Instead, I am told he continued on saying it was not a big deal that he had it with him.

I am from NYS so I do not know exactly what the laws are for NC. However, in my experience they are much stricter about alcohol in the south than the NE. I went to a bar on a Saturday night in Florida and was unpleasantly surprised when they told me it was now 'Sunday' and I couldn't have another beer.
I was wondering why people around me were starting to stockpile 3 or 4 nearby for consumption later!

Someone at the tourney was like "Where's your bottle of Captain?" because it features prominently in the battle reports where I have it. I made a joke that I was holding out till after lunch. At the end of the day, he picked up a pepsi bottle from my table (full) that had apparently been opened but was full and says, "Whose is this?" Most of the folks had left the store, and I said, "Ah, that's my bottle of Captain. Want it?" A bunch of people are like, "There's no booze allowed in the store." I'm like, "Uh...that was a joke. Want it?" I opened it and sniffed it, and it was.....flat pepsi! (was curious if it was pepsi or a mixed drink).
I like to drink at GTs when my wife is along and she is driving me; but for solo play where I drive myself...that's a big no-no.
I haven't bothered to call and try fixing the situation; I'm moving in a couple of weeks and getting in 'Ard Boyz semi-finals was trouble enough.
Obviously the states (and each state) is different than Canada (ontario), but up here, you would most certaintly not be aloud to have open liquor in a store environment. Actually the only places you could have it would be a private establishment, your home, or a licensed place (bar, restaurant, etc).
And legal or not, I think the drinking a mickey or 26 while gaming is bordering on acceptable as it is. Drink after the game, or between games (at a bar.....not in the store).

*sigh* I explained the booze for the love of....the Emprah.
I don't trash talk people. In this particular case, I made an exception for a friendly jest with Mark (red haired Black Templar player) who wasn't in the tournament which was lamentable. I was looking forward to matching my DE against his BT. Since I had just won 'Ard Boyz preliminaries at the store...and come back and taken this tournament...and in fact, I've won every tournament I've played at All Fun and Games ever with a single exception (where I came in second to Mark after we tied in our game but he picked up bonus points)....I thought I'd throw in a jest. I even PREFACED my smack-talk with the exact words, "In the interest of some good-natured smack talk, when are you going to bring some competition?" To which Mark said, "As soon as I enter a tournament?" To which I said, "Hope so; I was hoping to play you today!"
I fething love selective hearing.
And my last round....completed with time to spare - my last three rounds were completed in about 10 minutes, while my opponent was mostly not paying attention because of his family and kid being there. I went to the TO early in the game (Turn2) just in case slow-playing was going to become an issue. Saying something after the game is too late.

Actually, the drama here was the smallest part of it because it mostly got deleted / modquisitioned, and I suspect that there were 5-7 bans handed out.
The integration of Captain Morgan into my gaming is meant to illustrate to people writing my battle reports that I'm having fun. In the tournaments that I drink in, there is usually a bottle prominently displayed at various levels of liquid as it gets consumed. I thought that my blurry picture at the end of the SoCal Slaughter was particularly hilarious because of the quantity of booze I had there.
I'm a friendly guy - I joke during games. Practical joker even. On Vassal, I'll drop Skulltaker onto the board behind enemy units to garner a laugh. At semi-finals this past weekend during the third round, my opponent brought out a chimera behind my battlewagons. I pointed across the room at another table and was like, "Do you see what they're doing?" He turned to look and I put his chimera behind my back and when he turned back around I was like, "Man...those guys totally just drove off! Did you see them?" We had a laugh. I like to have fun when I'm gaming. Turn 2-3 as an Ork player, I'll say something like, "Alright, rolling for reserves - drop pod with a stompa...." and half the time my opponent will freak out, and then we laugh even harder about it. When I booze, I share with my opponents; I like having a good time and like even more when other folks are having a good time too.
This thing started off friendly enough; someone (I don't remember who) had asked me where my bottle of Captain was at the start of the tournament (since the notorious paper bag wasn't present) and I cracked a joke that I was hiding it in my pepsi bottle. 6 hours later, someone asking "Who's pepsi is this?" followed by my, "That's my Captain, not pepsi - want some?" got turned from fun into retardation. There was a flurry of "You can't drink in here!" followed by "Uh...I was kidding, its pepsi. Want it?" *shrugs* Wasn't a memorable conversation, I don't even remember who I was talking to (or I never learned their name).
It blew up into e-drama, getting banned from a store, and hatemail (and dakka trolling) from the TO and a couple of the people who are regulars there. Most of it was absolutely ridiculous and involved name-calling....which is probably why they're not posting here anymore.

Fifty percent of people you meet are below average...

I fething love selective hearing.
To quote a very wise person: "People hear half of what you say, remember half of what they hear, repeat half of what they remember, and screw up half of what they repeat, so if somebody says I said something there is only a 9% chance they haven't goofed something up."
It never fails.
