Great job man. This may be the quickest way i have heard of someone doing rust, but i must say one of the best outcomes. You really pulled it off well. IMO I like the darker colors and reds. This more signifying years of erosion.

Tomb kings, what else? I think you can even get reasonable counts as for all units bar the monolith. Although I suppose techno-vamps might work. Good luck getting most WFB players to agree to the larger bases though.

When I saw the square bases on top of the rounds... I was wondering if you were going to do something like this... very nice!

They look superb. Really excellent rust effect. But wouldn't they just self-repair any oxidation which may occur?

Very sweet, I do like the rust effect and bugger anyone who gives you grief over the bases. They're very choice and if you have the means I highly reccomend it.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

yeah I don't really care if anyone says anything about the bases. I doubt this army will ever see a tournament game or anything like that, I pretty much just play friendly laid back games with friendly laid back folks who just want a fun game.

I didn't expect these guys to paint up so quick, in fact I other than waiting for the black wash to dry I think I spent more time cleaning up the flash & building than painting. Gonna try and get my first squad of 12 done in the next few days, plus the lord with a res orb. I think I might try something different with the lord and paint him to be like tarnished bronze. I thought about gold but does gold really tarnish, or just get dirty looking?

I think the bases look great. I prefered the first one to the more recent bases (have you changed the colours?). You should consider getting some modeling Lichen as that would make the bases look extra old and ruined.

If you wan to paint an aged gold, try dwarf bronze with a badab black wash, it comes out like out antique gold.

I like it, I have a can of the same rustoleum primer and will be stealing this idea. I'm thinking, prime rustoleum, sponge orange and gunmetal over the top, wash with brown, then chip with gunmetal and silver.

finished some more. here's my lord. He's actually a bit greener in real life, I think I had too much light in the pic. I used pigment powders to try and get an old bronze look. And I added some more warriors, got 12 done now.. many more to go

the pics are in the gallery so you can click for bigger versions

wadaya think?

Im an Ork. Orkses like rust. I like your Necrons.

The only thing for me though, is you did some light sourcing, but there isnt any glow from the res orb.

You mean the light green areas on the lord? that wasn't light sourcing but I guess it kinda looks like it. i was going for a bronze patina look and it didn't work so well

I think the lord came out incredible. To me, it appears he is the same color scheme as the others, but lighter as he is more powerfully pulsing with alien energies.

I like the Necrons themselves, but I don't like the square bases. I think they'd look better if the tile was the same shape as their actual base.
