Hrrrm, My store wasn't listed, its hosting the Semi's and I have the 1st place invitation in hand.....

My store wasn't listed either, and my name's not on the list. This is making me unhappy...

Anyways, to tell you the truth every year this has happened. Last year in Michigan a store signed up and had several players show up but the Prelims were the same weekend as some Magic release. They decided to host that instead and when several people who had travelled to that store from a few hours away showed up they were told to stop bothering them and get the F out. They were walking to the parking lot and the owner came out and said here: You're first and You're second. He shoved the results in their hands and left. No prize support. Nothing.

They went to a GW store and the manager had them call a trade rep who gave them online vouchers and they went to Semi's. They travelled, showed up, had thier models and lists, and went to an advertised venue.

Seems to me that its only fair that they were allowed to move on for thier troubles. That was a lot of effort to not get anything if not enough people show up for an event or a venue decided not to run it.

Personally I'm going because I enjoy the competition (yea I know, ard boyz doesn't have much). I'd still show up if there was far less prize support. Ofc a 2500 pt army will help finance my trip to the finals and too novacon.

If I won a 2500 army, I would host an RTT / GT / 40k tournament / brawl of some sort with it as the primary prize support.

Just talked to the store I played at...hopefully that gets cleared up tomorrow when he talks to his GW rep.

I hope the guy that just showed up for his ticket takes it all.

'I figure if you show up with no ticket and not listed then your just a cheat. But if your not listed and still have theticket then you should be fine.

Hard boys prelims have always been laughably uneven. Even the semis vary from 50+ man events stacked with talent to 18 man events where even I could finish second. With Mech Eldar. In 5th edition. Yeah, I deserved a spot at nationals. /sarcasm (I didn't go, but sent the fourth place qualifier, who took Tau.)

It's a bit drippy, but even Ard boys is about the fun of competition. You play the games in front of you, and try to win the prizes that are there, and the less you worry about how much easier or harder somebody else has it, the more fun you'll have.

What I love is how for some weird reason you guys are unwilling to say WHICH STORE this shenaniganry occurs in.

Get some balls, announce to one and all that these stores are pulling shenanigans. Name the stores.

otherwise, whats the point? We know for a fact GW won't care, in fact this is probably the exact reason there is no prize until the second round.

Sorry but you are out of luck. The rules:

"Please call the store you qualified at and ask if they submitted the results of the first round. We will be sending a list of submitted winners to the Semi Final locations and if you are not on the list, you will not be able to patricipate in the Semi Finals."

So, if you are not on the list then you don't get to play...

Yeah I have seen this happen. Not in 40K but for other games. Number of people preregister does not mean you are going to get that many people at an event.

My buddy [a very good player] went to a store where he knew the players weren't very competitive. Lots of vanguard veteran marine players and flash git ork players that played with models and units they liked rather than designing competitive armies. He knew he'd win easily.

Kind of the same thing as going to a store where you know people won't show up at.

ANY system you make, someone's going to beat it. Especially gamers. Accept that these things happen. My company I work for prides itself on customer service. It's well known that roughly 5% of customers will find loopholes or demand things just to see if they can get away with it [combining coupons, complaining unnecessarily to get free food] and our policy is to cowtow to all of it. We don't want to alienate any of the 95% of good customers just to make sure we're not being taken advantage of by the other 5%. You take your licks and keep on going.
