Game Castle in Londonderry, NH had 13 players.
First round I played against FW daemons with skarbrand, 3 tooled shooty & HTH tzeentch princes and lots of scoring units, but no crushers. He had me on the back foot early, but I had a good round of HTH where Abaddon killed skarbrand, my lash prince (on his last wound) finished off one of the princes, and my lesser daemons finished off another one, which allowed me to break out. I didn't get the massacre, as he still had fateweaver (who never failed a re-roll) left contesting one of the objectives at the end. I missed a bonus point as well since FW was his most expensive unit. So Major +3.
Round 2 was mech eldar w/eldratar, harlies for HtH support, and min DA in falcons for the main scoring. I was only able to shoot down one skimmer all game, so wound up eating a minor loss, +0.
Round 3 was against Vect + archon-led DE skimmer spam. Six raider squads, 1 of wyches, 3 ravagers. I went second, forcing him to spread, and a large ruin in the center of the table made it hard for him to re-concentrate his force. I pushed up one side of the table and smashed half the army, then sniped with my 48" range stuff. Got the massacre +4.
That was good enough to squeek me into 2nd, behind my Cold Steel Mercs teammate (The Everliving), who had three massacres. 3rd was Todd from the Toy Soldier, in Amersbury MA, with 6-pred +razors blood angels.

I got 6th out of 22 at Borderlands, playing Thunderwolf Lord-heavy SW.
I got a minor victory against Jump Pack BA round 1 (he managed to contest 2 objectives with 1 unit at the end, almost all his stuff was dead)
I drew against a LR-heavy Vulkan-GK list (Basically an all-out slugfest. After beating the crap out of his GKs, Termys, and Vulkan in melee I had to try and deal with the LRs themselves. I couldn't)
Finally, I got a massacre against Mech Orks (This guy didn't seem to be in a very good mood and he conceded on turn 4 or so, at 7-1 KP)
Top 3 was:
IG
Space Wolves
Vulkan SM

I think this is every post in this thread, plus what I've seen on other blogs so far. Magodedisco, which Borderlands was that? Someone posted results from Borderlands, Greenville SC and had the top 3 as IG, SM (vulkan), Orks. So far the army distribution looks like this: IG: 13 (12, due to 1 winner not going to the finals) SM: 11 BA: 11 (12, due to 1 IG winner not going to the finals) Orks: 9 Nids: 9 SW: 7 CSM: 6 Eldar: 5 Daemons: 3 WH: 2 Tau: 1 (probably not attending finals) Necrons: 1 BT: 1 DH: 0 DA: 0 DE: 0 By first places: IG (9) SM (4) Nids (3) SW (3) CSM (3) EDIT: Added a bunch of results from BoLS, there's also a few that didn't have any location listed: I don't want to count them until they are verified tho. Location: N/A 1st: IG 2nd: IG 3rd: IG
Location: N/A 1st: SM (Khan) 2nd: SM 3rd: SoB
Location: N/A 1st: Nids 2nd: Necrons (!!) 3rd: Orks

Hi
I played in Kitchener, Canada in unbearable humidity.
Made it to table one in round three... and suffered a major loss to the Leaf Blower with my orks 11 KPs to 7. I was horrendously unable to damage any of his armour both at range and in assault. The result knocked me into 6th place.
Cheers,
Nate

The event was well run and worth the trip from Chicago!

I played my Darkblooddeathangelwing at the Olympic Cards & Comics, w/rednekgunner.
Massacred a DH player, tied against a horde IG gunline (187 infantry, 150 of 'em stubborn), and was massacred by another BA player in the final round. Finished 16th out of 38.
Gnarly dice day for me (2 'hits' all day, with three vindi's firing all game, every game), but I didn't really make any mistakes in my play, so I'm pretty happy with how things went.

The Adventurer's Guild in Harrisburg, PA had the following top 3:
1st - Space Marines
2nd - Space Marines
3rd - Sisters of Battle
I believe the total was 22 players out of their 28 player capacity. I think there were 5 that signed up and did not show.
MechaniCon sponsored the event by providing a lot of tournament scenery.
Also a major point to note - I hear that FINALS locations are supposed to be not only in Chicago, but also in Media, PA at Showcase Comics and in LA at the bunker. I have been told that this info should be on the GW site soon, but you can probably call those venues to line up a spot if travel to the finals may keep you from being able to attend.
As for gaming, I personally did not do too well.
1st game was a lot of fun against a local player that I have not gamed with in a long time. We forgot a couple things but it came down to me choosing to take a minor loss or go for the win at the end of turn 6. I failed to win and wound up with a major loss and some bonus points. Death Company Dreadnoughts killed about 100 termagants hehehe.
2nd game was against a player I had not met before. He was a great opponent and I look forward to meeting him again, I did not catch where he was from. By this time I was getting worn out from the heat and my bum leg started killing me and I knew the rain was coming (two hours later it was pouring sideways). I tried to be a decent opponent the best I could and played on. I got slaughtered down to two assault marines and WON the game. How? Those deep striking objectives... I popped my two at the center of the table, they were close enough to claim with my guys to take a 3-2 objective win. Victory points were something like 1200 for me and 2378 for him. Just goes to show, gotta always keep your eye one the mission (and you will see I did not in the next game HA!)
3rd game was against another player I had not met before. I was totally pooped at this point and I made a major mistake in my planning. I did not hold stuff in reserve to counter the side of the board deployment zone. I went first, deployed HQ and two troops along the center to make sure he didn't have much room. I did not get a copy of his list until after he moved on first turn (I went first). This is not a slam on my opponent, I should have demanded the list first. He had a crazy gun line tau army that all moved in on the side, 4-5 feet away from most of my force and during set up he had put all his terrain pieces (we rolled off to place the 7+ pieces) one the edge of the table so he had clear views to blow me away. I grabbed the TO, showed him the table and asked if he had a problem with me conceding and giving my opponent the win. It was quite clear that my jump packs and storm ravens had no cover to dance through and his army clearly had the win. It was also clear my opponent could legally achieve the bonus points.
My main complaint of the day? During a game I witnessed, we were past the 15 minute set up and into the bottom half of turn 1. This guy's entire army (which was held in reserve) was still packed in pick and pluck foam and he did not pull out a single model until his first moves. He spent 20 minutes pulling out models, rearranging which models went with what squads, attaching flight stands, asking for glue to make repairs, explaining how his army worked, etc.. My problem was that this was game time and I felt like this was deliberate stalling. I mention it here for folks to take note. Get your damn army out of the case before the game. You may not realize but you are cheating your opponent by stealing game time. I am not talking about the guy who has 10 marines in a transport sitting in the case still because they are in reserve, I am talking about extreme circumstances (like eating 20 minutes of game time). If you use this or other stalling tactics, you better believe that folks are catching on and will call you on it and TO's are catching on and will warn/eject cheaters more frequently.
I witnessed some minor rules problems, but I was a player and do not interfere with another player's game. Some of the things were minor and probably just a case of forgot and some were either cheats or folks just don't know their books. This info is for folks to know what to watch for, not a witch hunt so trolls go away!
Nid player not putting wounds on nearby termagants when tervigon dies. Nid players should know this and should never forget but it helps to know your opponent's army. I own a copy of every codex and FAQ and bring them to every event. It is a pain lugging it all around but it does all fit nicely in an Apocalypse Backpack. I have it prepped for when I am in a TO position, but as a player it is invaluable as well. You can reference your opponent's book while they move, roll, etc. without taking game time to question it. I have heard some groups are deliberately asking endless codex questions of their opponents, pretending they do not know rules as a stalling technique.
Reclusiarchs taking FNP rolls for Blood Angels. I played BA, am I wrong or is there no way the Reclusiarch can get FNP by just joining death company? I was playing with one and I thought they could NOT get FNP or Furious charge. I witnessed other BA's taking advantage of it and like I said, it was not my place to interfere.
Units moving/firing twice. Usually this kind of thing is caught right away and we are all guilty of this once in a while. If you have a ton of units, try using glass beads to keep track and pick them up at the start of the next phase.
Not tracking vehicle damage. Seriously, everyone needs to do this. Whether you use GW's new counters, the older dice sets, other manufacturer's counters, or just homemade paper counters, keep track of the stuff properly and you will avoid a lot of issues. Regular D6's tend to get picked up, even inadvertently, so make sure you use something that will not get lost.
Army lists. Some guys showed up with poorly written lists and/or no extra copies. No one really should be guilty of this. Yeah, you may forget your books/models/list sometime, but really - take the time to print out your list in an easily readable format (I hate AB by the way) and have copies for your opponents.
WYSIWYG - I did not see any problems but heard of a couple after the fact. Another... "REALLY?" Everyone showing up knows the rules, don't try and cheat your way through. Get the proper models or at least make an effort to scratch build what you need. I realize that GW is HORRIBLE for how they provide bits for some of the kits but if you want to use it in the game, get it on your models. I don't usually complain about GW (20+ year hobbiest/addict) but the Blood Angels are a perfect example of bits issues... Death Company get most of the bits they can buy from the list in a box, including an extra special pistol in the 5 man set. Sanguinary Guard are the opposite as every trooper can get an infernus pistol yet you only get one per box. I am all for folks scratch building those specials that they cannot purchase but you need to make the effort. Grenades and holofields can slide hehehe.
Dice/army cases/display bases- We spent tons of time and money on making tables and scenery for our event and every other store/club/venue has done the same. Have some respect for the guys who put all their effort toward creating a place for you to come game. I am a big fan of sideboards so that each player has space for their army, case, books, etc.. Sideboards also allow for an army to be our of the base ready to go! Most places do not have the space or the ideas to accommodate this, so try and work with what you have so you can enjoy your game and the venue doesn't have to repair all the scenery you just played on.
-Do not put your army case on top of scenery
-Do not drop your display board down on top of the woods terrain
-Get a box to roll your ridiculous sized/casino dice in
-Eat your food on your lap instead of putting it all over the tables
I guess I went into a bit of a rant, I leave it all here unedited for your education and enjoyment.

Just need to plan ahead next time. I sent the wife out of town with her girlfriend and the kids for the weekend.
But truth be told she is cool with it as I do not go to the bar anymore... use to spend $200 -$500 a month at the bar. Warhammer is much cheaper

I took first in Maine with IG. Can't wait for the finals...going to run a borrowed list hopefully. I played against three skilled and pleasant players who all played like the meant it but made sure both of us were having a reasonably fun time : ) !!!
See roughly 1/3 of you at the finals. What were the results for Mass?

So tons and tons of IG winning.. not real surprising I suppose. I did figure more would bring armies like mine to cripple IG as much as possible
Not sure about "parity" but atleast there is a lot of variety in the top 3 :p .. WFB has demons dominating the top spot.. but i suppose a lot less variation in spots 2 and 3

Well the balance between the recently released codecii seems pretty impressive - the entire top 5 is a list of 5E/almost 5E codecii (Orks are sort of 5E). The only thing that's REALLY surprising to me is the absolute lack of SW players out there, did BA just steal the attention of all the marine players, or what? I'm not really buying that since Vanilla Rines have a lot of representation. Maybe some results have yet to be reported or some of the reported SM wins were infact SW?

There was one really nasty SW player that was only a few dice rolls away from top tables at our Semi-final. I also would think that there are more SW winners that have yet to be (correctly) reported.

But truth be told she is cool with it as I do not go to the bar anymore... use to spend $200 -$500 a month at the bar. Warhammer is much cheaper
Dang, I should have done that too. See things were all cool and set the week before, just one of those things....
Too bad I never had another expensive habit to support that would make this one seem less evil to her.

Separate bank accounts is my answer.. Most of the money goes into a joint for bills, then she has hers and I have mine
voila, you'll never see warhammer on the balance sheets! I also keep it all in the basement so its out of sight too (Shes a gamer anyway.. its mostly for organizational purposes that its in the basement)
On the topic of why there arent more SW players.. IMO the people who like CC went to BA and those who like shooting tend to favor Vulkan.. er I mean space marines.. Also it takes a lot of cyclones to make the list I brought

That was Colin Kielick, from Redcap's & PAGE in Philly, though he lives in Coatesville. He was super frustrated at life & the luck gods going into the third round, because basically that same thing had happened to him in the first round as well---opponent was devastated with just a tank or two and a couple infantry models left, but managed to tank shock Colin's Plague Marines off the objectives. He may be out for the GT at Showcase later this summer, so you may run into him there.

I was actually surprised at the amount of vanilla marines winning. Sure I'm taking Vulkan to the nationals, but I had kinda thought that at the topmost competitive layer, marines are a bit of a one trick pony, but they still seemed to do well at the semis.
