I believe I started with 3rd edition, it's sort of hard to remember. It could be possible that I started right as 3rd was transitioning to 4th.

I started during 3rd edition, and dropped the game after the release of the 4th edition rules.

When I heard about the changes that were introduced in 5th edition, I started it back up again.

I played about 2 games of rogue trader, before my friends and I saved up and bought the 2nd edition boxed game. I think codex space wolves was out when we did, so I dont' think I started when rogue trader was the only thing around, i think one or two of my friends just had the book, and some minatures. I distinctly remember the terminators having a 2+ modifiable save in RT, then in 2nd ed. they had a 3+ modifiable save, on 2d6!

Had a lot of fun with second ed. then I went to college, never played 3rd ed. Started again with some new friends many years later on 4th ed. And the rest is history! Been a great game the whole time if you asked me. Although, it felt like more of a customizable game back in 2nd ed. But it just took FOREVER to play!

The deck of the Widower

I started in 1991. I remember carrying around a plastic tub with all the rules photo copied and bound with yarn. i think the stack of papers stood about 18 inches high. Back then you had to make your own vehicles if you wanted any, otherwise it was all foot troops. I remember even making robots that you needed to set up a program before the game that they had to then follow. Having to roll after you hit something to see where you hit then how bad it was was fun. Like, did i hit the model in the head, chest, leg, hand? Or did i hit his bike? where on the bike? grenades actually were thrown and limited on how many you had. there were gas grenades, nerve grenades, etc. Yay for being overly complex

It was a case of you got out what you put in; and for anything more than a straightforward head to head between friends really benefitted from a GM.

I'm currently undergoing re-hashing of my forces to fit into 5th.

same here - I have two copies of RT now and still play with the Ork Raiders and the old SM dreadnought alongside the new stuff

Have all versions of 40K and was really impressed with Black Reach - decent plastic models rather than some of the more lackluster versions of some of the middle editions.

Started Rogue Trader, i to remember Two Land Raiders to a box, 3 Rhinos, 30? Imperial Guard (with Heavy Weapons options) to a box, also remember buying a set that contained Terminators, Scouts, Genestealers and Tyranids (think that was for Space Hulk???) Good old days when you got value for money. (God i'm sounding old!). Lost interest when 3rd edition came out, swapped to Epic 2nd Edition, have come back to 5th Edition although not active, also started playing NetEpic Gold.

"You smell dat? Do you smell dat? Napalm, son. Nofing else in da galaxy smells like dat. I love da smell of napalm in da morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for twelve hours. When it was all over I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' 'ummie body. Da smell, you know dat gasoline smell, da whole hill. Smelled like... victory."
