I too started with the current edition. I like the edition, but then again, I don't know any better. My many years of gaming on other fronts has led me find certain aspects of the 40k rules as quirky.

The best part about the old second edition starter set was the card dred, I recently heard some people at the GW talking about how it is still tourny legal. Man, I wish that I hadn't lost that.

I briefly played in 3rd edition (I never even bought the rulebook), so I put that, but my serious entry to the game happened in 4th ed. I envy people who have started out fresh in this new edition.

I started with second edition, waaay back in 1994. Needless to say, when third edition came out, I spent about a month sitting there, flipping through the pages mumbling WTF!!! WTF!!! WTF!!!. I didn't play much in the dark years of third edition. When fourth edition came out, I thought they had finally, if not gotten their heads out of their collective butts, at least made the best out of a bad situation and so I found peace with it and started playing again. Then, just when I was happy with the game, they came out with fifth edition, and I spent months looking a the news and rumour sections of Dakka and Warseer, mumbling WTF!!! WTF!!! WTF!!! all over again. I play even more now then I did ever since second edition, but that's pretty much because most of the people at my FLGS pretty much ignore the more odious elements of the new rules like true line of sight and wound allocation. I live in fear of what they may do with sixth edition...............

I had been introduced to 40k prior to 3rd ed by a friend who had a few armies.

Although I was interested at the time,I didn't have a great deal of disposable income, so begged off on becoming involved in the game.

When 3rd ed was released a buddy of mine bought Two of the boxed starter sets and gave me all of the Dark Eldar,so he would have someone to learn how to play against.

I bought a few Raiders & Ravengers,an HQ and some incubbi, plus a couple of wytch sqauds and got hooked through the gills.

I've been involved in 40k ever since.

RT all the way baby!

Bought my first "Space Orks" and "Star Soldiers" in the blue blister packs before the rules even came out just cuz they looked "cool".

Then RT came out, my gaming group all got hooked, and the rest is history.

I am assuming that 5th is the current one. I started two editions ago, but I didn't play long. (I didn't have the money at the time.) Mostly I dabbled with friends' armies. I didn't get my own army until 5th.

I truly started with 5th ed. I "played" 1 4th ed game but it was me moving the pieces and rolling dice with somebody else telling me what to do. No clue what I was doing so I don't count that as starting since I never bought any pieces. I've now got 5 armies and can beat Barlio's Salamanders.

Rogue Trader, back in the day - through to 2nd ed, took a break then came back with the start of 3rd ed.

When Land Raiders were 2 to a box.
When Rhinos were 3 to a box.
When SM were 30 to a box.

When SM had jetbikes (but everyone could take land raiders).

I'm 50.

THIS is truth! And 5 versions later, one could argue that we're close to treading water!

Stuck around for the entire bumpy ride to the present revision.

Not much to say other than I am glad my assembly and painting improved, it was very painful when I started.

My converting a skimmer in 3rd edition to a chaos one was a bit painful to reflect on.
