Indeed - there are always questions immediately before an event.
Also, I just moved to Jacksonville last week. This will be the first event hosted in Florida. You're on equal footing with everyone else except me, and I'm not playing - just hosting.
I *also* host these on Vassal from time to time like this one. You're welcome to participate in those as well. There's a much larger crowd to pick from when your audience is the whole world.
Just c'mon by. Its 30 minutes away from you, its only $5...and it *is* intuitive. I'm serious; I've never run into anyone having a rules issue; there are generally some list questions that come up just beforehand that need to be answered. Occasionally I run into someone with an illegal or unallowed unit on the table that I missed, and I just have them sub it out on the spot with something else.

It's not the first here in Jax. The Guardians club of Jacksonville ran one about a year ago, but you're running slightly different rules than what we used. Ours ran 155pts with only the HQ model and no bodyguard, no "named" characters (the Avatar was allowed), but all wargear options allowed. I ran an autarch on bike with lance, mandi's, and a reaper launcher and ended up 3rd or 4th out of 14. There were models that would have given me a run for my $$ if they hadn't focused on each other, like the DP and the Avatar, but I did manage to take out a warboss before being gakked by another.
Dash, I want to say that I appreciate taking the time to respond to (and putting up with) our inquiries and look forward to participating. Since you're hosting this at Suncoast, you might want to post a message for the Guardians to attend on Karak Gorbard's message board. I'm sure that if you've left a notice at SC, you'll already have some Guardians attending. Now I just have to decide what to bring.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money
"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

Well, I actually stole this idea from Randy, who used to own Broadsword Comics before it closed. I thought it was a brilliant way to hang out with some folks and get in a game and possibly win something without having to commit an entire day to it.
It is a lot of fun.

Dropping in a bump!
Boss battle is less than a month away!
Also:
Out of curiosity, several folks have suggested that I run a training camp or something...
If I were to host a class / gaming session after the boss battle, any interest?
I'd call it, "Advanced 40k Tactics 101."
Subject matter:
-List building
-FM 7-8 (army tactics)
-Deployment Strategy
-Threat Analysis
Each of these could be their own class / session / etc., but I think I'd like to touch on all of them on a grand scale to start, and afterwards find out what people wanted to know more about the most for a second session.
I would basically spend a couple minutes talking about each of the topics, have a board set up, my army on it to illustrate various aspects of each of those subjects....then get everyone to build a list and pair them up to play each other and experiment / try each of the techniques that I'm teaching.

Wish I could come down to one of these, but I'm going to have to settle for maybe joining one of the Vassal Boss Battles some day.

For improving Deployment strategy, I've started to encourage players to review each other's deployment after setting up in "friendly" games.
For example, in my last game both objectives were on the right side of the board. My opponent deployed 2 troops in rhinos and his Land Raider full of terminators on the left side of the board. I pointed out that I could set up mainlt on the right side of the board and this would give me an easy time destroying his force close to his objective while he spend a few turns repositioning his left 3 units. I allowed him to re-deploy his army, and it was a more challenging game for us.

Wow, just wow.
I have just finished reading the live batrep Dash mentions, and it has recently been locked by Yakface, and thus I cannot comment there where I should.
I am sorry that the boss battle did not occur, I was looking forward to playing in it. And I found it very interesting reading all of the comments and questions that arose concerning this events rules.
I was at the event Dash mentioned, where he learned this minigame from Randy from the now defunct Broadswords games store. It was quite interesting as well.
Unfortunately, it didn't end well. At least the player that wanted to physically attack Dash was restrained by Randy.
And, yes, that's the truth of the matter. Hopefully Dash will have the honesty not to practice his revisionist history on that event, as he has done in his live batrep.
Finally, for those who have been following the drama that Dash has been creating here, on the Karak Gorbard forum, and at Sun Coast Comics, I am the same callsign on Karak, and have been the TO at Sun Coast for the last two years. I tried very hard to be fair with this matter, but it quickly spiralled out of control, at Dash's instigation as much as at the hands of others.
To the Mods, I apologize if this posting seems to be an attack, it is not meant to be one. I am trying to keep this from becoming a personal attack on Dash, but feel that the truth should be told.
The attacks that he has made against a friend of mine, and against the store that I play at were a bit too much to simply ignore.
Simply put, Dash is a very nice and polite person face-to-face, but he seems to come across the wrong way online.
If you are interested in learning more about the truth of these issues, I will be happy to pm you about them.

I have read your boards and WOW right back at ya! There isn't a single person in that whole drama that even looks remotely a tiney bit good - Dash especially. But the vileness on your boards is really pathetic and if those are grown ups they could really do with a lesson in manners and to learn that they aren't as important as they seem to think they are. From the store to the board to Dash you all look aweful - really aweful - glad I am not in that area with that gaming environment.
Dash - as much as you try to convince yourself - dude - you just some across as an arrogent so and so. It isn't too hard to imagine you annoying the crap out of people you have beaten by then telling them how they could do better tactically. Keep your opinions to yourself in a gaming room unless someone specfically asks for your opinion before you point out where they went wrong. That is common sense. To do otherwise is rude and boarderline TFG behavior. You make think you are provide a "service" by sharing you 40k tactical brillance but considering all the prior stuff that had gone down how could you think offering a tactics class was a good idea. Also, learn when to stop digging when you are in a hole - what the heck were you doing arguing on those boards? That definitely wasn't your smartest move. You may have the best of intentions but to cause that much hate amongst so many people in such little time you have to carry the blame for that - either a poor approach or poor social skills (probably not helped by the poor social skills displayed by the board members either) or a combo of it all. I think you really need to take a good hard look at yourself here coz it ain't all them.
As to that other board - run a tournie called "BMF - No whining or crying" and then proceed to whine and cry as someone beats seven bells out of some badly drawn up lists is so illogical a stance I cannot even begin to start. That board is unbelievable ... and not in a good way either. Just ick.
