Space Marine spit acid, so he could just melt it.

Sucks if you're an Imperial Fist though...

OK. For those of you that don't know about StarCraft...

The Marine is indeed a direct homage of the StarCraft Marine from the trailer. It is very clear to a StarCraft fan.

The Marines in StarCraft are not the Space Marines from 40K. Same name, completely different story. In fact, most of them are convicts and local criminals...kind of like Space Marines from the Rogue Trader days...

The whole cigar thing was a joke from the first game. There is a cut scene in the game where a handful of Marines board a science facility that had been taken over by the Zerg (Tyranids). There is even a Ghost (think Imperial Assassin with Psyker powers) with them. It is all tense and dark. Then, one of the Marines opens his visor, and smoke comes flowing out. In his mouth is a cigar...that he has been smoking inside of his sealed helmet for who knows how long.

Then, the case that some other Marine have been carrying is opened...containing a nuke...on ice...and beer.

The group start to crack open a few, when the Zerg attack...

The whole scene used humor to set off the action and drama. It is kind of a running joke in StarCraft that the Marines are kind of dumb or "hicks"...

The SS model is a direct homage to StarCraft...no doubt about it.

Now, how it won a GD? That's for the judges to know. Maybe they thought it was funny...

I can still remember when a box of 30 Space Marines was $30.00. Now THAT'S old school! In fact, I started playing in the Rogue Trader days...yes, I am that old. Played Warhammer Fantasy for years before Rogue Trader even came out...

Of course not. Trade shows aren't for showing off products reds8n. Everyone knows that. Why would you want to use your own trade show to show off your hot upcoming 3rd and 4th Quarter releases? That's just crazy talk. I mean look at all those folks at Origins, showing off upcoming products and previews, and the upcoming Gen-Con - complete waste of time. It's just common business sense to hold events and show nothing at those events.

Thought we'd all get this by now.

Except the only reason that we already knew about the Daemons was because of a leak. As far as GW are concerned, we knew nothing of the daemons and this was going to surprise all of us.

That slayer sword winning model is off the chain! Wow, that thing rocks, I love the paint job and the composition of the model.

Nice one.

Too bad there isn't any actual news to be had.

Why not? It's good marketing. Whether Starcraft was originally based off 40K or not is not relevant but they have similarities. If the game is successful then hopefully GW can draw some it's fan base to 40K based on the similarities.
