Much as it's a shame to post it here, it's not worth making a GD thread in the fantasy section for this; someone on CDO posted earlier that he talked to Matt Ward about whether they would be adding Chaos Dwarfs, he said they would be adding 2 races, but he didn't know which ones.
Whilst the fact that he didn't know is just a lie, the fact that he even talks about them adding anything at all is interesting as previously they just denied it outright, or said 'eventually (i.e. never)'.

Of course not. Trade shows aren't for showing off products reds8n. Everyone knows that. Why would you want to use your own trade show to show off your hot upcoming 3rd and 4th Quarter releases? That's just crazy talk. I mean look at all those folks at Origins, showing off upcoming products and previews, and the upcoming Gen-Con - complete waste of time. It's just common business sense to hold events and show nothing at those events.
..I guess technically this was the official unveiling of ..of...
...hmm..
..nope.

Thought we'd all get this by now.

When was the last time anyone saw any space marine in any artwork, or written about in any novel, codex or short story, let alone an ultramarine, smoke a cigar?

I think it's heavily influenced by the Starcraft 2 cgi trailer...
I think whilst painted beautifully it lacks any semblance of grim dark.
The marine should have been a BA so that at least the suit could then be red like iron man's.

Yeah, beautiful model but I just can't get over the cigar in the Marines mouth as well as the mohawk.
The black rage is within us all. Lies offer no shield against the inevitable. You speak of donning the black of duty for the red of brotherhood; but it is the black of rage you shall wear when the darkness comes for you.

I'm not up on all the newer Daemon stuff, so maybe I'm wrong there...
Anyway, if it IS Fateweaver, is it as big as a 'regular' Lord of Change?
Yes it is Fateweaver, it is comparable size wise to a "vanilla" LoCIIRC.

The sword winner is disgustingly well painted, but just lacks so much detail in the actual modeling that it's almost . Black Carapace? The marine's waist going into his crotch armor instead of on top of it? In fact, it needs lots more cabling. Marines don't wear their armor, they're installed into it.
Also, was Spain GDever the hotbed of news and rumors?
Also, I still like Fateweaver a lot

How did that win??? the painter looks like he used metallics and not NMM!!!!!!
.Only a fool believes there is such a thing as price gouging. Things have value determined by the creator or merchant. If you don't agree with that value, you are free not to purchase.
Do we have a name on the SS winner? It looks a lot like Pedro Rufo's work...
Paintjob is beautiful, the only thing that bugs me is the no black carapace or plugs thing, and the very ambiguous transition from hips to the bare torso. Seems to me he should have had the belt on.
Stylistically, I can see why it bothers some people, I personally would have liked to have seen black carapace plugs, scars, tats and the like, it is a bit calvin clein for my idea of an SM. That being said, it goes very, very well with what I immediately took it to be, an SCII homage.
Black carapace is under the skin so you can't see it but you guys are right that there should be plugs for connecting the armour to. The artist may also have got some inspiration from an old White Dwarf issue which showed a marine from the Mentor's Chapter being armoured up. Scars are easily explained by the marine's healing ability and this could be a new marine anyway.
Plenty of examples both old and new of marines with mohawks, but marines have attendants to help get them into armour, not machines.
Automatically Appended Next Post: As for the cigar, what's the point? I suppose as some marines drink they can also smoke, it's not like they're going to die of lung cancer but you'd have to wonder what kind of chemicals are in that cigar in order for the marine to feel any kind of effect.

I agree-the paintjob is really great but the model doesn't feel '40k' to me. For me, that would be an important thing.
I'm not aware of Starcraft II but having seen the linked video I can see the similarities! I wonder whether the judges were aware, and whether it was/would have been a factor in their decision? I'm not a huge fan of cross-setting homages like that (another example being the Batman-themed Harlequins from a little while ago), it breaks the fourth wall too much for my tastes.
But that's just personal opinion, and it's clear that the winning artist has fantastic skills.
Got skills but nothing like 40k. I thought golden daemon wasnt just a painting contest but a 40k fluff contest s well (they often say it is judged half on how well the model fits into the 40k universe).
I wouldnt have let that model make final cut let alone take the slayer sword home, just doesnt look anything at all like a space marine.
It also really hits home how much some people out there dont understand the fluff and see space marines as much Master Cheif or something, urgh.

Would have made more sense f it was painted up like an Angry marines..
