Uhm, that would not be the characters roots. Try watching Dr. No and From Russia with Love. The books weren't comedic either. You are confusing Roger Moore's run with the origins of the franchise it would seem.

So you're saying that you didn't find all the one liners, not to mention Dr. No himself, comical?

You seem to be looking at it from a modern perspective. They may seem hockey and amusing to you 47 years later but at the time they were quite serious.

They’re not throwing him away. The writer in the OP’s article was commenting on MGM’s financial problems and speculating what that might mean for the Bond franchise. It was speculation.

Brosnan. Bronson was the American actor from the Death Wish movies.
Prawnkus wrote:Craig was one of my favorite Bonds, but with it being such a famous series, why would they just throw it away? Does NOT make sense...
Yeah, it doesn’t make sense because it isn’t happening. They might struggle to financing ready in time for the scheduled production of the next Bond movie, but that isn’t certain, and if it did happen it would mean a delay, not a cancellation of the series.

Brosnan.
“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”
Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.
Daniel Craig was the worst bond ever, no sex appeal and thats a large part of Bond and why most of my freinds, myself included didnt enjoy them. Blonde Bonds dont do well.
Bronson and Connery are the best and have set a high standard. I guess i view Bond in a different light to most of you but i wrote off craig in the first 2 minutes of casino royale.
Patternson wouldnt be a good Bond, they need to look at people like Paul Betteny
Speaking as a married chap with no attraction to men, Craig is ruggedly good looking, if in a slightly melted face kind of way
I thought he filled the role well (since I don't go to the movie expecting to be attracted to Bond I suppose ). The blonde hair was no detraction, and indeed it was a welcome change and update from the traditional Bond haircut.

Same here. I'm confident enough in my sexuality to say that if I were a woman or gay I'd think he'd be completely hot. That is what I want my body to look like when I'm 42. He also has that rough look which suits the "new" bond with all his internal pain and angst. Also, other than Connery, his fight scenes are the only ones that really get across to me that Bond would be terrifying to be in a fight with. I would argue that the two newest movies have the best combat scenes, excepting a couple of the ones with Connery.
Unlike a lot of people, I think all of the actors that have played bond did a good job. For instance, some Bond fans don't like Roger Moore. For a long time Moore was my favorite bond. When he was "on", he could get incredibly close to comedy yet still pull off a hardcore action hero. Along with Brosnan, I think Roger Moore mastered the Bond one-liner. In fact, one of the only flaws I find in Craig's character is the lack of that sarcastic irreverence.

I'll agree with all of this. I would not mind having my head attached to Craig's body and neither would my wife, I'm sure. We loved Casino Royale, and while we anticipated a repeated success with Quantum, it just fell flat for us.
Regarding Pattison as a potential Bond, I guess I'll have to see how he both ages and matures into an actor. I loathe the Twilight movies - the wife loves the books and watches the movies, but isn't terribly impressed - but many actors have proven themselves capable of development after mediocre roles. I'd hate to pass judgement before the fact.
What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money
"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell
