Robert Pattinson as James Bond? I recoil violently at the very suggestion. If this is what they're thinking, I would rather the James Bond series be allowed to die with what little dignity it still retains.
Twilight disgusts me to the depths of my soul, but Robert Pattinson can actually act.
He is in the same stage now as Leonardo DiCaprio was just after Titanic, loathed because hes filled an awful role aimed at preteen girls. He has been stuck filming movies he absolutely hates with scripts that allow no chance to act.
Remember Me proved that even with bad directing, he is not as terribad as people who judge him on Twishite think :(
The article said that the plans for the next Bond film are on hold (read "when we get more money"). It said that by the time the money is there, younglings "like" that sparkling douche would be tapped for the role. They did not name that person specifically.
But yes, him in that role would be a death sentence to the bad-assery that is Bond.
If I give you a cookie, will you go away? If I give you the bag, will you go far, far away?

I'm still struggling trying to recall any movie where DiCaprio was actually a good actor...
Never seen this twiglet person in anything, so I can't really comment.
But you need ruthless sophistication, charm and above all a bit of maturity in order to play Bond... things I can't imagine an actor from twiglet having.

Pattison isn't up for the role, the author is just tossing out a name to frighten us all. As for the best page in the universe review, I guess he thought Chinatown was stupid to because it was about water. Though of course neither were really about water but power and that the things we take the most for granted are also the things that will screw us over the most if they disappear. Of course it wasn't even really about the water but that some secret organization was making a power play and it was in their best interests to foul up the works as well as expose them. Things happening in small countries do impact larger ones. Look at what ignoring Afghanistan for so long did. No it wasn't a perfect film but it also wasn't as simple minded as that review either.
Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.
This is the text in the article on Robert Pattinson as James Bond;
"By the time Bond gets revived, we might be hearing stories about younglings like Robert Pattinson being considered for the role (I mostly kid, but a big part of me knows that's not entirely impossible)."
The guy is making a point that MGM's collapse may force Bond into hibernation for so long that by the time we see another Bond then a tween star of today might be old enough to play Bond. There's no actual story there about Pattinson, the story is about the scheduled Bond film directed by Mendes possibly being scrapped.

DiCaprio gave excellent performances in The Departed, Shutter Island and Revolutionary Road. There is a very simple reason that top tier directors such as Scorsese and Mendes, who are able to choose any actor they want for their films, choose DiCaprio – he's a skilled actor.
“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”
Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.
Aye Pattinson wouldnt do it anyway, they always throw random stupid names about for him.
Remember Dizzee Rascal?!
We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.
I personally think it is a load of rubbish. The whole premise of the story seems to hinge on the fact that the next Bond movie will be so delayed that they will need to cast a new actor because Daniel Craig will be too old. Daniel Craig has signed on to do 5 Bond films; the only thing precluding this is MGM's financial state and if push comes to shove, some other concern will buy the rights to the films. Hardly something that will take years, especially for a franchise like Bond, that is financially viable.

I have to admit missing all of those films, mainly for the reason that they had DiCaprio in them. If they ever come on TV I will give them a go based on your say so, but if I don't enjoy them... *shakes fist*

Revolutionary Road is good if you're interested in watching the slow breakdown of a marriage in the 50s, performances are great but it iwon't be everyone's cup of tea. Shutter Island is solid, the story isn't great but it is a really skillfully made film.
But see The Departed. It kicks all the kinds of ass.

I hope they keep doing the bond Films, the last 2 movies have been the best in a generation.

As much as I love the Bond franchise, it should end soon. No matter how awesome Bond is, his character is now quite old. However, Mr. Sparkley-Excuse-For-A-Vampire was OK as Cedrick Diggery in Harry Potter.
Old doesn't equate to bad. As has been seen with the newer films, he has been updated to be more with the times while still retaining those essential bond elements.
I'd love to see some kind of Bond prequel set in WWII or something - Bond is dropped into Berlin to steal Hitlers razor so his 'tash gets all out of shape

Then you've not seen quite a few I think
"Gangs of New York" he was pretty good in, "The Departed" was amazing, "Blood Diamond" was fantastic, "The Basketball Diaries" the same--off the top of my head.
They finally get a good bond actor and they're throwing him away. I am disappointed, craig was the first bond that didn't seem like a comical character with no jokes.

Do you remember that time that thing happened?
This is a bad thread and you should all feel bad

Quite possible

Gangs of New York was pretty dire and from what I can remember DiCaprio wasn't exactly amazing. Never even heard of Basketball Diaries.
Blood Diamond is pretty good though - I can't remember what DiCaprio's performance in it was like, so I can't really comment - will have to watch it again, I think I have it on DVD somewhere
@Shuma - I have to agree, the last 2 Bond movies were the best Bond films and Craig was a big part of that. Not that the older films are bad - they are just different
I could care less. Casino Royale grew on me like a fungus. With great enthusiasm I saw Quantum of Solace. It was absolutely horrible. I won't be wasting my money on bond films again.
-"Wait a minute.....who is that Frazz is talking to in the gallery? Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG
-"Don't mind Frazzled. He's just Dakka's crazy old dude locked in the attic. He's harmless. Mostly."

I'd like to see James Bond go back to his roots... as a laughable action hero. Seriously, watch some of the older Bond films (I recommend Moonraker) and you will laugh your ass off. Back then Bond rode the line that lots of 60s-70s sci-fi fiction did... right between action and comedy.
On a loosely related tangent check out the movie Zardoz staring ex-James Bond actor Sean Connery.

It was something along the lines of this:
AYE'M FRAM RHODEEHZHIA, EH MAH BOI! AH GOT BIG PLAYNE FULL GRENAYDE LANCHAH, EH! MAGIC! AYE'M GONNAH FAHND AH BIG PANK DAYEMOND, EH, AND LAYVE AFRICA FOHEVAH! T.I.A. ME MAN!
Didn't stop it from being a badass movie though
