Probably a good choice considering it's a summer movie.

A Norse God of War speaking flowery prose?

This just gets better and better.

I don't know...I was one of the few people that liked the first Hulk movie with Ang lee's "deep" character exposition.

But to your point, I believe I'm pretty much in the minority there.

Loved that movie.

Also like Brannaugh, when he's doing Shakespeare. I don't think this is the big budget movie he should be doing, and I say that to keep him from getting creamed.

Thor's always been serious stuff, dealing with the (fairly dour) Norse gods, Ragnarok and such. It's a grim mythos.

What? You do realize who's directing right?
Kenneth Branagh. Look him up sometime.

Huh? What does that have to do with saying that the source material is grim stuff, hence wisecracking Thor probably won't work?

I'm going to explain this real slow to you.

Kenneth Branagh does Shakespearean films, for the most part. He's directed and starred in several.

Do you see someone who does Shakespeare taking a mythos that's established as grim and dour--and pulling a Michael Bay with it?
Because I sure as hell don't see that happening.

Personally I really like Michael Bay's casting of Keanu Reeves in "Much Ado About Nothing". Particularly the part where the shark exploded, which was a much-needed deviation from an otherwise dry and uninspired narrative. Sometimes Hollywood can improve on the Bard.

*facepalm*

No...no, you're still not making any sense at all. Let's recap.

The post I originally responded to suggested they should take an Iron Man approach to the film. And for the record Iron Man 2 was right there with Michael Bay films in terms of 'splosions and quips. I suggested that style would be completely wrong for Thor given the subject matter. Nowhere am I claiming that they will or even might be taking that approach. It was a response to another poster's comment.

So explain to me how your "have you heard of KENNETH BRANAGH!!!11one1!!" comment puts me in my place or even fits into that exchange like you think it does.

I dunno if I loved it, but I liked that he tried to make it "not-dumb." It had some significant flaws IMO, but I'd rather see that than the by-the-book, uninteresting brain candy that the "requel" was.

The source material is way more Marvel/Kirby than Old School Poetic Edda guys!

But I must admit, it does look as if Asgard is now in Las Vegas...

I WANT this movie to be GOOD.

I WANT it to do well, because I really WANT to see an Avengers movie, with the cast from all the other recent Marvel movies.

But really, only Captain America has a chance of being decent, because of the setting and characters involved.

But even then, the preview CA costume is... meh.

THOR is on shaky ground.

GREEN LANTERN - the costume is making people nervous.

Could be dark times ahead for comic book movies!

Suffolk, where the Aliens roam.

Well I'm happy with the villian choice, Loki using The Destroyer should be pretty fun to watch.

Plus Jaimie Alexander is playing Sif, the fact Sif is in it, makes me happy. They are doing a proper go of it when the secondary characters are there, heck even the Warriors three are in there.

It is one I am eager to watch.

Still gutted about Edward Norton though.

Agreed on all points!

I'm HOPING it will be great - but a bit worried after seeing the Asgard By Way of Main Street Las Vegas pic!
