Odin, apparently.

Yep. That's Hopkins in a super hero suit. Looking rather pleased with himself, I think.

So, best thing or best thing EVAR?

EDIT: And I totally missed the comic book thread. Still, Anthony Hopkins in tights deserves its own thread, surely?

Oh. My. GOD.

After watching Hannibal Lecter and Zorro he was one of my favourite actors, but this just kills it.

Like when Johny Depp started doing movies for kids.

FWIW, they supposedly will wear their helmets in the film at some point. I'm sure Odin will brandish his bad-a$$ spear at some point, which won't hurt either.

I think I kinda like the semi-technological look to the costumes (and probably Valhalla). Although the costumes aren't exactly blowing me away, we need to see them in action first. You really have to see them in action, in the kind of lighting, etc. that's intended.

I'm reserving judgment on the GL suit for the same reason. I generally like the Cap suit, but IMO the wings need to be at least painted on the helmet. It really looks like something's missing.

I personally think the whole Thor movie is a joke, unless it's done in the same vein as Iron Man 1 and 2...IMHO the ONLY good marvel movies...

IMO the Iron Man movies were good examples of how the right star can carry an otherwise mediocre film. But even if you had RDJ or an equivalent in Thor, I dunno that a lighthearted approach would work for the subject matter. Thor's always been serious stuff, dealing with the (fairly dour) Norse gods, Ragnarok and such. It's a grim mythos.

Well it is supposed to be Asgard and no one ahs ever accused the norse gods..or the Kirby version anyway..of having good taste.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Those suits look a bit gimpy (ok, not a bit - very), and the actors don't look like superheros at all.

I don't know if that is supposed to be some kind of promotional poster/screenshot, but their poses look so... unenergetic and limp. They make a dead puppy look happy.

Huh? What does that have to do with saying that the source material is grim stuff, hence wisecracking Thor probably won't work?

I don't believe Kenneth brannagh is a good choice. Literally, superheroes aren't Shakespeare. They are summer popcorn flicks, not expositions of epic soliliquoy. This is a strange choice.

Speaking of Shakespeare, I wonder if they're going to keep Thor's faux-elizabethan dialect.

Frazz, as Nurglitch indicated, the source material is full of semi-flowery language, epic proclamations and such. So it's not that odd of a choice, IMO. Although to your point, I'm not sure how it's going to work as a movie.
