Concerning latest news and such: AoW just confirmed that they are working on plastic troops!
Gaelion wrote:We are now sculpting the 3ups for the first AoW plastic regiment sets!(...)
I am sorry I can't say right now which is the first race we are working on. Creating plastic minis means a pretty big investment (at least for AoW), so we have to be careful and not unveil which minis are we working on until we are much closer to release date.
What I can say though is that the plastic sets will be boxed, containing multi-component plastic frames (high-impact polystyrene, same as Perrys, GW or Mantic) to put together 16 or more troopers (depending on the type of regiment). All that together with the style and look that characterizes AoW miniatures!
Deserves its own thread if more is known.
BTW currently, O&G have 6 and Dwarfs have 4 models and are in the lead

Great news! If possible keep us posted about it Kroothawk... with the proven talent at Avatars the plastic adventure could well be something VERY special.

DO WANT. I love that more and more companies are moving into this arena. I swear, I wish I could head design for something like this, I have so many ideas.
Sadly, all I lack is time, talent, and money. Ah well. I'll happily purchase sweet figures from AoW instead. Maybe some sweet elven spearmen and archers? Sans monkey-hands?

Now that's an understatement right there!
I don't think the price will be too low, sadly, but the quality should be very high!

Felix is a great sculptor, but to my knowledge the details you can achieve in plastic are pretty much limited to the level you see in GW plastics.... Just a reality of the medium. And being that AOW basicly IS GW design I doubt you woudl see much difference bewteen AOW's plastic dwarves and Gw's plastic dwarves... or whatever he decides to do..... SOmething tells me it won't be dwarves, elves or undead though. Between Mantic and GW those are pretty well covered. And if he can't beat the distribution, quality, AND price those would be a horribly unsafe bet.
Orcs and goblins...... Probably. I think he would need to push the envelope a little more on orcs to stave off the full weight of GW's legal arm. Maybe not. We will see though.
I am certainly eager to see what he pulls off though!

That's a damn fine looking model. If the rest of the line makes that look weak, then they have a stupidly strong line! Ok, the pose and the tongue shave a few points off the overall score, sure. But overall I think it IS pretty damn nice.

Okay, but implication here is that GW has done as much as they could with dwarfs. Untrue. To illustrate my point - these are a lot more dynamic than these, particularly if you've ever seen the dwarfs up close. They are pretty disappointing. GW is capable of making better figures in plastic. Sometimes they just don't. I'm looking at you, Monkey-handed high elves.

Compared to the below new mini from GW, this is much better. Still, I'm surprised AoW haven't looked more into the pose as mentioned already. Head over to Reaper and many of their mini's have some fantastic poses. Its almost a shame to see such a nice looking model so static.
Would have liked to see exchangeable heads or head parts at least too. Everyone likes to customize their large minis. Customization was the ONLY thing GW did right with the below model too.
Gawd, I cant believe people like the new gw model below.. sigh.. oh well. Good work anyway AoW for the nice mini.

Hah hah No worries Chibi Bodge, I liek Felix and I think he is VERY talented. I just wish I could see him flex his creative muscles a little more often.
The point I am makign is that while th ecomparison between the skaven and the dwarf plastics is perfectly accurate, the main reason GW's look is what it is is because it is CONSISTENT. You can readily identify a GW dwarf on a table with any other manufacturer because the look is very consistent. The details possible with palstic ar ewhat they are, that will not improve until a new plastic is engineered that allows for flexibilty.
High impact polystyrene is TOTALLY inflexible and the moulds are made from STEEL which also is inflexible. If there is ANY undersut the model breaks when the moudl is parted. Therefore details MUST BE SHALLOW to allow for proper parting. I think there are softer plastics that can safely de-mould some level of undercut, but even they have very low tolerance fro it.
If Felix were to do something like Dwarfs he coudl certainyl 1-up GW by pushign the " design " a bit, but if he does that will the spirit of AOW remain intact?
This is all total conjecture. Felix may have the most fantastic and original plastic troops ever created. More power to him I say and I truly do hope it works out well for him.

Interesting, I hope its something out of left field, like a more defined free company.
Figures good enough to stand in an Empire Army and outclass the current figs, or provide a much valued resource for those of us still playing Mordheim.
Whatever it is mind, I'll be looking forward to seeing the pics.

Mmmmm plastics from AoW would be dead sexy. I haven't bought any of their resins yet, but only for lack of an army to put them in. They are damned tempting, and have a really great look, far above the often cartoony GW stuff.
