if they're in the combat zone then they're fools if they think they're not gonna get shot.

if a place is visibly tainted by chaos then they won't take any chances. once they get out (or get left behind) the Exterminatus begins so it doesn't really count as this is going to the extemes of corruption.

and Innocent Civilians are a part of the Imperium, each one does thier part to ensure the productivilty of HIS armies. if they shoot one down they have wasted a Holy Bolter round and worker to furthur HIS goals. I'm sure there are some Munitorum or Administratum folks who tell them, next time, don't shoot so many, it might be a random body to you but the slates just lost ten dozen factory workers from your trigger happy soldiers.

Yes. Because not doing so isn't grimdark enough.

Actually I imagine most Space Marines don't give a damn about the age of the heretics/xenos they kill. So what if they're only six years old? They're still heretics. And they have no pity on xenos no matter their apparent age, as you cannot trust a xeno.

Exterminatus is much rarer than many people are made to believe. Unless a world is wholly beyond salvation, it's probably not gonna receive Exterminatus.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

yea i see what people are saying. i know they would do it if ordered or in blowing up a planet, i just didn't really think of them going through a city purging it, it seems more like chaos than imperial marines.

If I were a space marine and found tainted children of chaos...

...I would.

You know since in the imperium they prefer them all to fit a certain mold...

AKWK! More chaos.... burn!

Daily, what do you think what happens to failed aspirants and space marines are psychologically indoctritated to do such things.

In general, I'd say SM would feel uncomfortable doing that at least. After all, many chapters are honor-bound to PROTECT innocent people, and killing kids goes against that. A chapter that takes this further, like the Space Wolves wouldn't unless there would be no choice at all. And a super zealous chapter like the Black Templars wouldn't care as much: if that's what needed to be done, they'd do it without a second thought.

And that is the grim darkness of the far future for ya.

The executions will contiune UNTIL MORALE IMPROVES!

I agree, in general Space Marines are nobler than most of the Imperium. If they could avoid it, without defying their honors or oath they would.

lmao

i think marines wouldn't blow them away with a bolter TBH but would poison them with cyanide

That reminds me few parts of an old book, one of the Jaq Draco trilogy, in some moment a group of Imperial fists are ordered by an Inquisitor (i don't remember the name) who was boasting the marines to kill every eldar they'll find in the ship, even the kids.... the Captain (Lexandro D'Arquebus) and the Librarian (Kurt Kempka) hesitate about the Inquisitor's orders, thinking he was insane....

IMO depends in the marine own judgement and "morale"

This one was very situational. The original question pertained to the Marines retaking a world that had fallen to chaos. I think that, in this case, it would depend on A) the Chapter involved, and B) the degree of taint the world had suffered. If the population had been reduced to slaves, who had hardly felt the taint of chaos? No, probably not. If, on the other hand, mutation was widespread, cults were springing up everywhere, they might.

In addition, yes, some Chapters place greater or lesser value on human life.

Marines aren't one group that always behave the same way in the face of any given situation. Depending on Chapter, the answer ranges across a spectrum of "Yes they would, without doubt, hesitation, or a twinge of remorse" all the way to "Probably not."

Space Wolves, Salamanders and maybe Ultramarines wouldn't, unless it was a fething tainted Nurgle daemon possessed kid with fething snot and gak leaking out of its eyes trying to murder them with a chainsaw. Other chapters, depends.

Why should they care about their target's age? They are Space Marines, the Emperor's Angels of Death and not his nice fluffy bunnies of forgiveness.
When a situation is dire enough to call for the Astartes then it is most likely also dire enough not to care about such tiny things like innocent bystanders or
the wellfare of ordinary citizens. Better to burn out the cancer with bolter and chainsword than to risk that it reappears later.
And well, if any innocents get accidently hurt, who cares? After all the emperor will know his own

Of course that shouldn't mean that your average chapter doesn't care at all about collateral damage, but the mission comes first, even for the supposedly
"good" chapters.

It would be too much of a problem if they were unable to do it. Cultists or CSM would just use them as shields and the SM would be beaten.

As EF said some wouldn't like it, but they would do it.

This thread is so close...

Anyway, I disagree.

The much ballyhooed Salamanders certainly wouldn't... And I'm sure that there are others as well.

i def dont think the salamanders would kill innocent children, and im sure other chapters may not do such a deed, thou it makes sense for some chapters to be all gun ho about it, and if the situation required it almost all space marine chapters would perform the deed thou their feelings about it would be very different.

maybe it would haunt some of them forever...
