I'd expect that this is because they were developed DURING the Heresy and because of the ol' Renegade chapters.

As for the storm bolters, some people prefer the Chaos version and I guess it's to provide a bit of variation otherwise that truly could be the proverbial straw that broke the proverbial 'Spikey Marines' Camel's back.

Well Storm Bolters didn't exist, so Rhinos would have used bolters as defensive weapons, and I don't think the Razorback existed at all, but someone needs to check me on that one, I could be wrong.

Predators, as stated earlier in this thread, didn't have lascannons. Just autocannons. I don't think they even had HB sponsons pre-heresy.

And yes, there was only one Land Raider.

Oh, and the Imperium had jetbikes back then, I dunno how you want to work that in. That was before the Dark Angels had the monopoly on them (after the STC was lost).

i don't know if you can still call it being ninja'd if it happened 3 days earlier but you should probably take a look at alpharius' post on page one with those links.


as for the DA, you definitely shouldn't use the Ravenwing/Deathwing fluff as they're obviously a post heresy addition to the legion/chapter. considering that only the ultramarines were "codex" at that time, i'd say frankly that you should use the space wolf rules. as heretical as it seems, it's the only book that is totally non-codex at the moment yet still allows you to do the things you might want modelling/rules wise like having lots of terminators. just change of the wolf references to lions and add some knightly descriptors to replace the celtic/viking ones.

I was never going to use the Deathwing or Ravenwing rules.

Then the Space Marine codex is almost certainly the better option. I'd personally only use the DA codex for those rules so...
