I was the WoC player, mono Tzeentch. I showed up with the list I always use, and in fact didn't keep track of my score. I didn't care, I wanted to play. Coming in third was quite a surprise! I was also the only player there without Skaven or Dwarfs.

The guy I played in the last round had a unit of Trolls with Throgg. I thought they were a pretty nice unit and I'm considering adding some.

I love Throgg, and as you can probably see I'm amassing a full Troll army I've got my fingers crossed that we see some plastic ones soon!

I went up against Dwarfs my second game, and guess what he had? Yup, a Flame Cannon. He cooked them first turn of the game, and then unloaded all of his warmachines and shooting into that unit. The unit soaked it all up, and finally died. That's 2 Cannons, a Flame Cannon, 2 Bolt Throwers, a and a 10 Strong unit of Quarrelers (may have been Thunderers). Not bad for no longer having a regen

Not like dwarves need a flame cannon anyway.. 5 pts get you flaming cannons, flaming grudge throwers..

Howd he hit them first turn? Flame cannon has a max range of 18".. You moved straight towards it? :p

Hahah I sure did! I hadn't actually played against Dwarfs at that point (odd, given how many were there) and I wasn't sure if it worked like a regular cannon so I figured no guts no glory!

Riverside, California (GMI Games)

1st: Lizardmen w/ Life Slann, Gor-Rok, 30x TG Block, 59x Saurus Block, 5 units of Chameleons
2nd: Daemons w/ KoS, 2x Hot (1 Shadow and 1 life), GIoD on HoK BSB, and 2 Blood letter blocks
3rd: Dark Elfs w/ Supreme Sorc (Death), Sorc (Darkness), 2x Masters, and 1 Dreadlord, 2 Blocks of 9 CoK's, Horde of Warriors, and another blocks of warriors.

14 guys. I played the 3rd place DE in game 1 and almost lost in bottom of 5. The scenario put my entire army on right flank except my Saurus Horde which was on the left flank. His entire army was across my Saurus Warriors and in mid. He had 2x Chariots across from my TG but I bum rushed my TG over to help my Saurus and let my Chameleons take out the chariots for easy points. My Saurus block failed its stubborn 8 test w/ no BSB nearby (got stuck with warrior horde for 1 round) so was 2 inches out of range). I got away (amazingly) but was 1 inch from the table edge. Rallied next turn, flanked his Dreadlords unit of CoK w/ my TG, Dwellers on other one, killed his BSB and 4 other Cok's. Killed entire CoK unit in combat except the dreadlord who I chased down. Close game till turn 6.

Played the Daemon player in the last game. Didn't have to reserve anything, he had to reserve a unit of bloodletters and his HoK BSB. He deployed first. I fully deployed in the opposite corner of his KoS. Surrounded his KoS with 4x units of 9x Chameleons. I rolled a 6 and went first. I dropped the KoS to 1 wound before his turn and bum rushed his close bloodletter unit with everything. Won combat by 17 (Saurus were T8 and TG Regen w/ shield of thorns) and the unit popped. Reformed to face the Horrors. Feedback scrolled the Shadow HoT and Becalmed the Life one so no dwellers and so he couldnt dispell my Remain in plays. Keeper got to combat and died to the Shield of thorns before combat began. Chameleons harassed the reserve bloodletters and HoK BSB until they were down to 1 bonus rank. He Kamikazid into my TG block and that was game.

I built my list for gunlines and didn't face any. 2nd game was a heavy/magic combat DE list, similar to the 1st. Did well and the only scare was when my horde fled in game 1.

Gor-rok was less than impressive for the points. Will probably take a different list to semis.

Gor-roq is a hero level character. I think the guy you're thinking of is something like Kroq-gar. I'm sure I have that spelling wrong. Gor-roq, if I remember correctly, is just a tough, durable hero level guy.

Naw, he's a special Scar-Vet character. He is anti-cavalry(ish), stubborn, counts as defending an obstacle at all times (lose charge bonuses and -1 to hit in first round), immune to killing blow, rerolls hits in first round of combat, and rerolls to wound against him. He performed horribly, but I rolled consistently bad in the games he was supposed to be useful (against the DE's).

I'm shocked WoC did so well in so many tournies. I would think it wouldn't do as well as Dwarves, Slaan, or the elf armies. I guess going magic/hellcannon/warrior heavy does well.

Well, I cannot speak for the other stores, but ours didn't have one Lizardmen, Empire, or High Elf army. We had one Dwarf player, but he finished mid-pack. I think Empire or Lizardmen would have dominated at our tourney.

I'm shocked at the number of Screaming Bells I'm seeing in the Skaven lists that are popping up. My opinion is that it remains the clearly inferior choice in 8th.

Seems like most places had low turnouts, which makes my shops 5-player showing seem less awful. The other guys were Skaven and Vampire Counts. Almost everyone was brand-spanking new to the rules, so it was a long, drawn-out affair with a lot of rules errors and plenty of drama.

Crazy to see how much 8th has shaken up the field, though.

I honestly am also.

I did not run one, and placed 3rd, the guy that got first is just a superior general to me, and the guy that got second did really well in his two games after i beat him.

I cannot think of a situation where the bell is worth its 200ish points. Half the rolls are semi useless now.

The scorch thing eats 2 power dice, the reroll leadership tests is nice for stuff not in your bsb bubble (but not nearly as amazing as it was in 7th), I never liked having to move the bell as I like keeping it away from stuff that can kill my seer. The tons of attacks is decent, but again, i dont like the bell in combat, and its normally only clanrats attacking (which isnt that great)....

I can see them thinking that the D3 wounds against everything T7 or greater is nice against lots of gunlines.
