Nope.

You are going to hate such conversions.

Until I see more people in this thread saying, "I hate these conversions," you're alone.

The only other person who has said, "no," hasn't even given a reason for it beyond, "I hate IG and Tau, but stay away from my beloved Marines."

And considering how many people have said, "HELL YES," to this idea in this thread, you're the minority.

So, if you don't like these conversions, fine, that's your prerogative. It doesn't give you leave to berate the OP about it, as you did in your first post.

Do a 180 and walk right out of this thread if you're not a fan.

I dunno. If someone did that at my FLGS, I'd buy that midel from him and make him a Chaplin in my new SM army that I started the second I saw Tentacle Tau marines that joined the Micky Mouse Fan Club.

For those of you who haven't seen the Dornian Heresy it's awesome. And while I don't dislike the Ultras their role in the Dornian Heresy made me love them, there is actually a Inquisitor sized model that a member of B&C is scuplting to be wearing Damocles Armor (the type of armor shown above).

I suggest reading the Dornian Heresy and I am proud to say that I'm contributing a piece of art for the next installment

what's the basic backdrop? Those marines seem to be using tau weapons but are killing the tau?

After the first tyranid invasion, everyone though "Hey, I bet the ultras are weak now huurrrrr!"

so yea the tau do have aggressions against the ultras

also Sicarus ended up "lucified" since the White Scars who worship slaanesh have their own "The Eternal"

And Calgar actually last I heard hates that the Ultras arent adapting too well with new tactcis so he's gonna actually attack ultramar or something with experimental battleships

I'm not sure where the above points come from.

The basic back drop is that Rogal Dorn instead of Horus was the one who betrayed the Emperor. Every Traitor legion from official cannon is now loyal and every loyal legion is traitor in this version except for the Ultramarines.

Instead the Ultramarines have declared themselves a seperate empire from the Imperium and as such are not limited to the same technological restraints. Instead they have advanced in technology partially from trade with the Tau which explains why in the above picture the marines have examples of Tau weaponry and Tau influenced armour. But the Tau have begun to violate their treaties with Ultramar and have begun trespassing in Ultramar space which is why the Ultramarines are killing them in the picture.

Also chapters no longer exist in this cannon, the Ultramarines use them in a sense that each grand company is tasked with protecting a certain area of Ultramar, these companies have developed certain colors and "nicknames" which are the same as the official cannon successor chapters.

Well you've got to understand that the Dornian Heresy is just a piece of very well made fan-fiction. At the begining of it all he has a short story about an eldar farseer seeing a future that could have happened which is the Dornian Heresy.

He's had alot of ideas on how everything has changed and it's so much so that alot of people over on B&C have started making their armies based off of his version. Especially his version of the Blood Angels which is a largely popular choice. So far no one has made normal size Damocles Armor so I can't help you there, sorry.

OP, do you plan on playing as counts as or proposing rules? Giving SM Tau weapons would be fun, but the costs would definitely need to change.

Also, where can I read about this alternate alternate universe known as the Dornian Heresy?

Okay we need to call GW and have the official cannon changed to the dornian heresy!

Counts as, mostly because the rail guns are the only thing that would be really different, ALL other tau weaponry is based on an imperial version.

Literally

Missile Pod- assault 2 Missile Launcher
Fusion Blaster - Melta gun
Plasma rifle- Plasma gun
Burst cannon - Half assed heavy bolter
Flamer-flamer

all very minor changes to stat line or none at all. A very lasy way to create a new races codex (talking about tau) but hopefully with the new codex (if there is one) that will change.

The Dornian Heresy can be found on Bolter & Chainsword. I think you can find it through google and read it as a guest (it's in pdf). Or just go to B&C and click on the banner at the top of the page that has a picture of Rogal Dorn looking all chaosy.

Now On to what to do about tau dreds. For a traitor sm Chapter to join, that means that we can't just get rid of the dreds and use crisis suits as "counts as" so we have to modify the dreds, but only to a certain extent, remember theres a guy inside that needs to be kept alive.

any Ideas?

Broadsides, yo.

The Tau don't have anything exactly comparable, so make them broadsides, give them one gun arm with two Broadside railguns (to represent the TL railgun) and the other arm use the Tau SMS cunningly integrated into the Missile Launcher, perhaps? Or, if you prefer plasma rifle Broadsides, work 2 plasma rifles into their left DCCW?

Call'em Infantry, give'em a 2+ armor save, a little antenna on top for their drone controller, call it a day.

Nothing else in the Tau codex really qualifies. It's a bit of a stretch, calling a walker infantry instead, but it's the best you can do.

I'm doing it the other way around, so the dred would have to be a dred, just with tau (counts as Lascannon, missile launcher, ETC)weapons.

Although I have thought of using some stacked Missile pods as the Twinlinked autocannons. A broadside railgun as the twinlinked lascannon. Maybe some gattling style Plasma rifle for a plasma cannon... not sure on anything else....

Wait, you're using the Marine codex for these guys?

I was under the impression these were Marine models in a Tau army.

Then yeah I guess it'd just be a dread... but I dunno what you'd use for weapons, most Dreadnought weapons don't have good analogues in the Tau codex.

TL lascannon is right out. Missile launcher could be a missile pod, maybe... Autocannons are right out, assault cannons have no good analogue except possibly a really beefed up burst cannon or a more powerful SMS with better AP... and multimeltas have no analogue, since fusion blasters are basic meltaguns.

Yeah but those are Imperial weapons.

My point was that there are not Tau weapons that work like assault cannons.

So you'd have to stretch it a bit or give him Imperial weapons.
