There's no reason whatsoever to speculate. It's a non-issue. It's fanart.

If this was a stick figure shouting "FOR THE EMPRAH!", we wouldn't be having this issue; it's only because it's an actual nicely done piece of fanart that it cropped up.

So your point is that because it wasn't made by a member of the Games Workshop staff, it's not worth considering?

That we should pretend it doesn't exist, because even though it clearly had an artist, and the artist clearly had a purpose, he's not worthy of Our Majesty's Royal Consideration, because he's not on GW's payroll?

You can opt out of this discussion anytime you want, dude.

I'm going to continue to speculate as to which Space Marine chapter this gentleman in this piece of art may be a member of, because that's more fun than scoffing at it.

And I'm not posting in this thread for the pretension.

I'm here for the art.

Your statement was that it's more fun to speculate. There is no reason, whatsoever, to speculate what it is. It's fanart, probably as I stated representing the artist's homemade Chapter. That's it. End of story.

That has nothing to do with "it's not worth considering" or "scoffing at it". It's not worth speculating what the content of it is about.

And rather than asking here, you and the OP should probably consider y'know...tracking down the artist and asking him don't you think?

Then search around on Deviant Art for 40k art. You'll probably find it there.

That's a lot of indefinites and definites mixed in the same sentence.

Do you know that it's a custom chapter? Can you recall from memory every single one of the hundreds of canon chapters? Their insignia? Their color schemes?

I'll give you a hint: you can't.

As such, you don't know that this is a homebrew chapter. You're assuming it is because it's an easy answer, but that doesn't make it true.

It looks to me like the sword isnt actually mega-long Final Fantasy style, just that the perspective is a bit off, but I dunno.

I sorta like the pic, but it does look too sleek to be a Marine to me.

As for the Chapter, no idea, maybe somebody heard the name Hawk Lords and did this without actually looking at the colour scheme?

Can you? You seem to be positive it's a "canon" Chapter, but it's nowhere on any references for that color scheme/insignia.

Thus: homebrew.

It seems okay for a piece of fanart
Some of the drawing needs to be improved on but that will come with practice.

Technically he is naughty using the 40k logo.

He's got great ability. Much more I'd wager than some in this thread who have said otherwise. WHo's to say it's not a WIP or a scrap piece by a much better artist.

Nope. I can't.

But that brings me back to my original point: it's fun to speculate.

It's not fun to suck all the fun out of speculating by declaring that speculating is a useless venture.

Unless you are, in fact, having fun, in which case far be it from me to stifle your joviality!

Speculating about something about which we don't know enough to deduce based on available data that there's no real point to speculating about isn't a useless venture until we've confirmed that there is, in fact, no point to speculating about it!

It's fanart.

If it wasn't, we'd actually see an artist's watermark or it'd have been featured on the Black Library site.

So he wants to speculate, you don't. What's the argument here? Does it bother you or something?

I think half of the arguments about rules on these forums are pointless but that's not something I can raise to anyone which will make them stop. If it's pointless it's probably not going to bother you if you let it alone.

I never said it wasn't fanart.

I said you can't jump to conclusions and assume the artist intended to draw a Space Marine of a homebrew or non-canon chapter.

Perhaps the artist intended to draw a Space Marine from a canon chapter.

You don't know!

That's what I was speculating about.

The chapter from which that Space Marine hails.

Which, for all we know, could be an obscure canon chapter.

Nobody can say what the artist intended. It matches no chapter that has been depicted or described that I am aware of.

Now why do I still remember that from over 10 years ago?
