Many of the public workers that died on 9/11 should be considered heros. After the order was given to get oout of the world trade center, many stayed in to try and help as much as they could.
Americans should never forget 9/11, they should never forget those who died or those fighting overseas for us.
God Bless America and those who bravely defend her.
The difference between commitment and involvement is like eggs and ham; the ckicken was "involved", the pig was "comitted".
I'd like to thank all the young men and women who fought those wars to protect us. Your generation will be remembered by your countrymen. I feel horrible for all of our brothers and sisters who died as well as the foreigners who were in the terrorists way. I would like to thank the Brits and everyone who got behind us. This fight wont be over even when the wars wrap up. I wish it wasnt that way but there are too many nuts in the world right now and they want to knock us out of way so they can pursue their plans. Stay strong.
I wish the best to the families of those who lost their loved ones, and to the firemen of the good ol' FDNY, but really, I don't want to remember anything. If I was terrorist, I'd probably find this kind of thing a sign of weakness or something. We hold onto things for too long

this +1,000.
I feel sorry for those so apathetic about it.
As for the coverage vs. Pakistan's flooding. Could it be that the main source of worldwide news agencies are not from Pakistan? or Haiti? or any other buttwipe area barely in the 19th century? I bet if I watched the BBC a lot I'd get lots of news about the UK...wow!

"Holy Sh*&, you've opened my eyes and changed my mind about this topic, thanks Dakka OT!"
I remember that day well. I was in the office of my school (my mom was the secretary) right before a day of 4th grade, I believe. All the sudden the 3rd grade teacher came running down the stairs and told us what happened, and we ran up to her room for the TV.
Also, lets remember the 4th plane, the one where the passengers forced the plane to crash into a field instead of it's target. Those were brave men and women.
I've never feared Death or Dying. I've only feared never Trying.

+1 Front page of my local newspaper a couple of weeks ago had a picture of a bunch of Pakistani's all reaching their hands out towards the camera. The story was something along the lines of how hurt, and dissapointed Pakistan was that the U.S. was not contributing enough aid. In multiple interviews with these jack-asses they had the gall to ask "where is America?" I found it ironic since most of these same guys would probably be more than happy to burn an American flag on any other day.

EDIT- Chris, ive freely admitted i dont like Muslims, but how is that racist? I dont like white muslims either. Its the religion, not the race of its practitioner i have an issue with as black/white/asian people all practice the faith. And im an equal opportunites hater, i dislike Christianity and Judaism almost as much. Can you be "devoutist"? Cos its those people i have an issue with.
I guess you can be....to me it's just as bad to hate people for their religion as it is to hate them for their race, and there's no real word for religious hatred. All the holy books of the world's religions have parts that are ridiculous now. The Bible calls for the stoning of children who disobey their parents for feth's sake! I just think it's improper to hate a whole religion....not everyone who practices a religion is evil. I was born and raised Roman Catholic. Do you hate me just because I'm Christian?

I remember we were in Religion class when it happened, and our teacher got a little radio so we could listen in. It was shocking. My family all sat looking at the footage in silence when I got home.
To those who think we shouldn't remember, what? I mean, don't go bananas over it, but certainly something like that needs to be remembered- it's a major part of what shaped the last decade, maybe even the defining moment of the start of the millenium. It's huge in terms of impact and the reprecussions. Two wars were started off the back of it! Forget about things like that, and then you risk repeating the mistakes that lead to it. I remember 9/11 every time I go to a port or airport, because our previously incredibly lax security had to be tightened massively, and it's a pain.
On the subject of hating people and so on, can we just agree that we all hate knobends, no matter what their creed, colour or choice of hatwear.

Of course, but you would get a lot of news about Europe, America and the rest of the world too. For example, there is a fair bit of coverage about the Rev Jones and the reaction from Muslims worldwide.
America did this to themselves. The Government flew those planes into the building themselves. And then they get a lead that Afghanistan did it in 1 day?? That was fast!! They did 9/11 to give a reason to go into Afghanistan and take all the oil Afghanistan has. That is why the soldiers aren't ever leaving. And Afghanistan is fighting to protect the intruders of their country.
Has the government released any proof to the public that is undeniable proof that Afghanistan flew those planes into the World Trade Center??? The Government is doing it to get money from the oil in Afghanistan. They don't care how many soldiers die in Afghanistan. They only want the oil in Afghanistan so they can get rich.

Afghanistan doesn't have very much oil and it's far too dangerous to pump in a cost effective manner. In nearly a decade we have made something in the negative hundreds of billions due to the use of the military in those regions. The terrorist attacks were claimed on video and afghanistan was the logical choice for investigation following an attack of that scale given it's nature as a country run by muslim extremist warlords that had a history of training for and performing terrorist actions abroad. The financial and interpersonal links between Afghanistan, Osama, and the attacks are well documented at this point by multiple nations.
I'm pretty sure that was a troll post though.

Do you remember that time that thing happened?
This is a bad thread and you should all feel bad
I didn't even know that 9/11 was approaching. Long hours in research libraries tend to distort one's perception of time. That said, while 9/11 interests me from a standpoint of research, it does not resonate on an emotional level.
I remember the event, but I don't 'care' on the sort of level that many others appear to.
Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh.
