I'm Brit Mil and out in ISAF at the moment - medics have my ultimate respect because you guys will be patching up people who otherwise won't make it. Keep up the good work out here!

As for gaming - try posting on the Miniatures page when you get out here, as there are guys out there who send stuff out via APO. You'll be sure to get some time out here.

Interestingly down in KAF the Brit Cafe is full of board games like wings of war and so on, so you'll find plenty of players out here.

Always looking to meet SE London gamers for Saga, Frostgrave.

Quite, there have been comments and posts in this thread which do step over the line, Pms etc ect have been sent to some.

Good luck and stay safe to any and all service personnel.

All the best wherever you and your men go from one military man (ex I hasten to add!) to another. And as one remf to another as well. No-one and I mean, no-one has the right to denigrate anyone's service achievement or job. Whatever you do, whether a grunt in the field, a medic, a pilot or like I was, an engineer, being deployed on Ops is a pretty crappy thing no matter what. Lets not get drawn into pointless pissing wars about who is the best or whether person x has seen more 'action' than person y.

Stay safe, do your time and come home in one piece!

Finally got my offical orders this week. I'll gladly give proof to back this thread to those that request it however please understand that parts of it will be covered up for security reasons.

Please PM me if you wish to support in some way. Please do not be offended if offer some form of support to me or the boyz and we decline it.

My last deployment we used to get personal heygene stuffs by the boat so often we asked draw down some. Some people got offended and that was too bad. So anyrate love to see the supoort just don't be offended if it's not something we are looking for.

We have the 3.5 D&D references we could use a few copies of 4.0 references and any maps/figs you might have a surplus of. Other stuff like board games of the geek appeal are great ideas, books are always welcome etc.

Thanks.

You see, your location is listed as Oregon, and yet the 804th is located at Ft. Devens, Mass (I didn't even have to look that one up, I've been there before).

Also, last I checked it was 804th MED BDE (Medical Brigade), not ME BDT, unless I'm barking up the wrong tree here. And the motto (according to https://www.devens.army.mil/804thwebsite/index.htm ) is "To your Health" not "Wherever the Road Leads."

Don't take it personally, but there has been a recent epidemic of scammers posing as troops online to get free stuff/steal peoples cash.

Unless you really have some reason to believe he is lying keep it to yourself. Really not cool. I served 10 years and what you are implying without any proof is really not cool.

I layed out the proof right there for all to see. There were inconsistencies between information presented and information known. If that was coincidental/misinterpreted, oh well, but if you served 10 years, then you undoubtedly know what OPSEC is, this is know different. You're not going to transmit sensitive data without confirming the identity of who is on the other end, likewise you're not going to send cash/material donations to someone without making sure you are donating to someone or an an organization that actually needs the charity.

I don't think anybody here is going to ship something that expensive to truely worry where its going. bad as is sounds, the goods are going to be second hand and the OP seems to know that.

Worst case scenario, pick a FOB and ship it. It'll in up in a rec room and will get some sort of use.

You really need a specific service member name and unit to send stuff. Anything addressed to 'Any Soldier' or similar will not be delivered (and the Post Office may not even accept it).

Also, give yourself time at the post office to fill out the frickin customs forms, or better yet, get them and fill them out ahead of time and save yourself the hassle.

Yeah, thats a given. I've seen (quite litteraly) tons of stuff dumped by BCTs for that reasons. Forgive me for the sarcastic remarks.

Still, if others felt this was a much needed cause (honestly, I don't think it's that big of a deal), there are ways to help out. It's going to take some personal time, no doubt, but if its something you want to help out with then do what you feel is right.

Hey,

IMO
You should really wait till you get to where you are going before dropping any APO info. First point, the military is nortorious for dropping you off one day in one spot, then in a couple of days you end up someplace else, especially out here.

When you inprocess to your location, you get an APOE number that gets your mail to you, directly. It takes roughly three or so weeks, on the crow fly, but give your packages around four, just for GP, and to keep yourself stoked to get mail. (Mail is a good thing, packages are better.) Mail is not reliable, but when it does come it is a good day.

I'm not going to comment on the beginning viceral comments, except to say that they are really uncalled for. When you live this thing 24-7, an outlet isn't a bad thing, especially if you actually get a little free time to get a game or two in. The thing about it is that it isn't like a movie, or TV show, where you get to stop between commercials. This thing is every day, 24-7, 7 days a week, and each and every day is the same.

My thing doesn't give me much in terms of time, aside from an occasional check to Dakka every now and then, but then again, I've got things a little more wrapped then most, and I'll just leave it at that I am LARPing Gorkamorka. ( WAAAAAGGGHHHH!!!!!)

Talking about training in the middle of this is like talking about practicing in the middle of the World Cup, or Super Bowl. You can do a little, but in between TIC's, refitting, your day to day living, and going back out, If you want to do that long winded wanna-be training stuff that some tools come up with here, you are wasting your time... It's too late.
Training should be done at home, and/ or when you allot yourself time to do it properly. You don't do yourself any good when you try to halfstep it, and end up p###ing your people off by taking up thier time with jacking around. I've seen it a couple of times already, and some of the regular guy types over do it and outright look foolish while wasting thier time with people who arn't really paying attention to them, anyway. It's funny to watch, ans at the same time, it is sad. You just want to go up and get into thier business, but you can't.

The PTSD thing is what it is, by having down time to decompress, talk over the ... stuff, and keeping your people talking to thier ones back home, and each other, you keep that stuff down, just a little. Some of it, you need, and your not going to do anything to get rid of it, because it helps you. Other stuff about it, goes away with time, and still other stuff never goes away, and becomes your little ugly pal. Gaming helps out, as well as movies, reading, coming up with some new stuff to do, get a couple of CLEP's in, etc. Just in short, generally anything to occupy your time and give you something to do. I found a couple of the other cat's comments just a little out there, and not more then a little viceral.
You other people, don't pay any attention to that negative nelly stuff. It's not really that bad after you learn your limits, and coping skills...

I've been all over the place, and it all depends on the unit, the leaders, and the prep BEFORE they come out here. Some are great, some are outright crap. Its is different for different people. That negative noise doesn't do anything to help the case, because it's really not as bad as some people think. If you're good, you have a good team, and you stay focused, the time rolls by, fast.

To the OP, there's MWR places in the camps to play at, and in between your unit function, you have plenty of time to game, Wait till you get an APOE, and Get something that doesn't take up a lot of room and have lots of small stuff. Mini games are great, but skirmish, and small unit stuff would do you better, based on space, and lugging that stuff around. Not to mention the storage, getting it all back in one piece, and not getting bogged down with too many games, you want to get a general consensus and stay specific, lest you get an a@@load of general gaming stuff that will just clogg you up and spread out your time. ( thats not always a bad thing, but board games, skirmish games, and something with a start, a middle and an end helps out better then something you try to start, then get interrupted to the point where you don't get a game in, at all.)

Just a thought....

Good luck, stay cool.

This whole topic smells of ignorance and lies. Get some evidence and people will be more then happy to help you out. And as any soldier knows a major part of serving is combating boredom, even when deployed

I put a posting up on Anysolder.com

The address, rules etc are all there.

My name is SSG Van Allman, Kelly C.

I personally do not have much time for games due to where I am working but a lot of my soldiers do. They are interested in roleplaying games, card games and randome board games of the 40k nature. I don't expect anything new and shinny just some stuff to gift to the good soldiers that they are.

If you wish to use Anysoldier.com to verfiy my claim great. If you wish to see a copy of my orders email me and i'll show you a copy. If you wish to take my word the address is supplied below.

This thread is quite amusing, because it has a lot of acronyms that equal up with 40k. I think there was a bunch of MOS's in there before

But, on topic, I can't offer anything but my good luck wishes!
