Recently one of my LFGS's lost my business for eternity, not due to stench but because of a very dastardly act that I hold nothing but contempt for: A personal friend of mine and two business partners opened a shop together and despite it being another 20 minutes of driving for me, I went there to support my friend's endeavors for several months. The store was very active, with constant events and tournaments. It was clean, well organized and had great customer support. Then, one day, one of those TFGs was called out for cheating by my friend and the other two partners in the business decided to "fire" him. How they did this when they were business partners is beyond me. I later found out that he apologized to the person he called out and everything was copacetic between them, but he was still fired. Then the REAL reason came out: supposedly the other two guys were tired of him constantly pushing them to run events and keep up with ordering and keeping the store squared away. Sooo, they fired him because his drive to succeed was cramping their style. Never again will I visit this store, nor will I ever refer anyone to them. In fact, as a further show of loyalty to my friend I will say this: Never visit Arsenal Games & Hobbies in Martinez, GA. I'm sure this will piss some people off, but the ones offended should be pissed off, in my opinion.

I must be lucky, I have several stores within about 15-45 minute drives and all that I've visited have been at least "mostly" clean & organized with staff that doesn't suck and customers who aren't annoying (most of the time). Even though I have a bunch closer though I usually will drive to the farthest one away (Showcase in Media, PA) cuz that's just where I've always gone and Mike runs a great store.
I was on the verge of opening a store of my own, but can't come up with the right amt of funds to make a place worthwhile, and I don't want a teeny hole in the wall shop with low stock and no room for groups to play in.

I haven't gamed in a store in over 10 years.
There's simply no reason to here.
Most of our clubs are outside of stores, in privately hired venues.
We don't have to worry about keeping out the riff-raff - the clubs or venue management do that for us.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.
That is not dead which can eternal lie ...
... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

If the extremely unpleasant guy buying a blister and two box sets costs you some of your regulars, who buy way more than that over time, and scares away some of the new people who would each buy a blister and two box sets, you've made a bad decision. Sometimes it's more important to keep all of your other customers happy than to cater to the guy who is driving them away.

Wow, this is an experience that I have NEVER had to deal with. My FLGS only seems to attract very quiet gamer types. 'Course, there is the one fat older guy that has a t-shirt with a over-endowed Weird World War II female on it, wearing pants and leather straps over her "bosom". I have never even noticed any BO, though actually I only smell TO MUCH man-perfume/deodorant. Very sad how sloppy some people are these days. _Tim?

There are weird ducks at any store. That is not a problem at all. But when the store is in such a condition that it in itself breeds disgusting gamers that is what I have a problem with.

The store I owned when I was on duty I kept a spray bottle of air freshner and spray deoderant behind the counter for smelly people. I have served in the army now for almost ten years, half of which was active duty infantry and I hate being dirty and smelly. I shower once or twice a day(more the latter) and in the summer 3-4 times as well cleanliness is next to godleness. My dogs once were trying to hide their noses in the garbages and under their paws because a group of warlord players by my counter smelled that horrible.
ATM I am only launching an online store, but I am reading this forum intently as I am hopping in January or Febuary of 2011 to have enough inventory to launch a storefront again out here. Keep them comming as personally I hate my local gaming store. The owners are rude and they have told me they ordered my product (when I purchased from them) and I would come in the next week to find out they didn't nor would they. Also more then anything I really get annoyed when people don't ask for my ID on my credit card and the owner of the WHIZ(here in mass) she waits till after I sign to ask. The problem being once theirs a signature I can't fight it with the bank if my card was stolen.
Anyways people keep the ideas comming, and if you live in Mass let me know which city would be better and why. I am looking at Framingham and Waltham atm and can't decide between the two.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |
