Electrics starting at $69. There's a bunch in the $100 range as well. Remember, you're getting what you pay for, but as far as cheap guitars go, they're relatively good quality. But don't expect them to sound like a Jem or anything.

Edit: Out of all of them, this one is probably the best that's in your range. My friend bought one and it's actually a really nice guitar, especially for the price.

If you just want to learn how to play, I guess you can get something from walmart.....I wouldn't, but for a hundred bucks, I think you can get something.

I had to go to WalMart last weekend. And I had been able to keep form going in there for almost two years.
Maybe Target has one. I'll check, but until I have a job, garage sales and pawn shps will prolly be my best friends for now.

Also, just to mention, if you want to play some of the songs you linked, you're going to need a guitar with Humbuckers. I'd reccomend a distortion pedal as well.

Ibanez AEB10. Just picked it up as something to play with friend informally since I'm not playing gigs anymore, not that it hasn't made an appearance at a coffee house or two.

I'm the owner of a Fender, what kind I have no idea.

The game Brutal Legend got me to want to play the guitar, and I asked my parents for one for christmas, but they got me Accoustic

Noo,so untrue...I spend quite a fair amount of time banging out various "metal tunes" on my acoustic,remember..if you can play it on an acoustic it will sound even better when your plugged in,distorted and have the volume up to 11.

I learnt to play on a cheap Fender acoustic then bought a Yamaha Pacifica. Cheap as chips but sturdy and nice to play. Mine is so old now it has a quality tone despite being economy and battered. I mostly play my SG standard however, because it is sexual.

How did I miss this thread? I always take any given opportunity to talk about my somewhat odd selection of guitars.

My main guitar is this:

I put it together myself from parts. The neck is easily the best I've ever played, it's made entirely from Pau Ferro which is normally only used for fretboards and it completely raw (ie no finish).

The rest: Steinberger Spirit, Epiphone G400, Marlin Sidewinder and at the bottom modded lapsteel.

I only have one amp worth mentioning a WEM ER40 head running though a 1x12" H/H cab. The WEM dates to somewhere between the late 60s and mid 70s. Oddly for that era it's a transistor amplifier although for WEM being odd is par for the course. After all this is the company that produced effects pedals with an output cable and not the industry standard output socket. Still oddity aside it's a perfectly capable amp with a very handy treble boost feature.

OTher wise I play acoustic. I honestly dont own my own oddly enough. I play on an old ass one my mother has had since before she gave birth to us Its showing wear finally, but it still can sound decent with some new strings

I also like to play me some Andy Mckee and Don Ross covers/style, so I have this,

It's a mitchell, but side by side next to a martin, you can't tell the difference in sound. I love this guitar.

I also have an old beater for taking around outside....its some nameless brand with nylons.

Sold everything.

I have 11 of them. Sorry. I'm a bit obsessive.

My favorites are a JPB 'Artist' series electric accoustic bass named 'Devin' and a '67 Fender Jazz named 'Jazzabel' (long story behind how I got that). My Favorite 6 string guitars are just a plain old strat named 'Lulubelle' white with stripes of spraypaint, and a black Ibanez RGX named 'Wicked', and a Steinberger Synapse named 'Emily' that I got for 18 bucks (she never EVER goes out of tune). The rest of them are pawn shop cheapos though.

Retroactively applied infallability is its own reward. I wish I knew this years ago.

I'm surprised at the level of humbleness on this thread. I expected someone to own an EVH wolfgang or something expensive

Okay, in an effort to be less humble, I'm willing to say that my guitar (the black semi-hollow body in the pic) has more switches than anyone elses

Was up on Denmark street yesterday and picked up an all black Jaguar player HH to add to the collection as well now Neck is not as nice as the player jazzmaster, but it is a very nice sounding guitar that fills the roles of jaguar and strat at the same time.
