Seriously? What's the matter with you?
Not the time or place to bring that up.
Not classy at all.
Sorry, What?
That is what I was thinking.
I think he was referring to this:
Do check out Armadillo Games in Orlando some time, its a bunch of great folks and its slightly closer then Sci-Fi. (I drive from Flagler to their regularly). There will be a 40k Team Tourny on the 16th
Which is the equivalent to saying "Yeah, I am glad you enjoyed McDonalds, but you will really enjoy Burger King. And it's closer!" Which is a little in bad taste.
Granted, I am a Sci-Fi regular, and I have met John Vega and wish him nothing but the best in his creation of a new hobby store (which only makes the hobby stronger), and I really have no allegiance to Sci-Fi other then that is where my friends go, but it gets tiring when people constantly point out other stores whenever somebody has anything good to say about Sci-Fi.
Now, we have a great community of stores. Pheonix Games is developing their own comunity and has space to match Sci-Fi. Paladin has a great location with an awesome organizer. And Collisium of Comics recently grew bigger as well and I have heard nothing but good things. We all have our preferences when it comes to gaming.
I could be wrong but that was my take on things. Talking to Dash when he visited just showed my how grateful I am that I live close to such a great place for wargaming. Almost every week, I can walk into a tournament at a number of different friendly gaming stores, and meet good people and have an enjoyable game. Very few places in the country can make that claim. Orlando may not be the best, but it is close.
Then he should have quoted that post. My inital mentioning of Armadillo was in response to the post that talked about Rhubarb closing. Which is a bit more akin to saying "McDonalds just closed, but the Grimmace just opened a new burger joint in the same plaza! The Fry Guys are hanging out there now"
While I have my issues with Sci-Fi, I will not stop people from shopping/gaming there, nor will I stop them from going to Paladin, CoC, or the seemingly endless amount of other stores in the area. I meant no disrespect. But when you have to drive the hour and a half to a game store like I do, or the 2 and a half that dash does, some times it nice to stop by a place slightly closer.
That and I gotta promote the stores that carry and support my product

I didn't see anything wrong with this and I dont think she meant any real ill intentions with it. Cyporiean is one of the nicer people in the gaming scene and really is passionate about promoting games at any store.

I think it's just a carry over from lots of other threads on a different forum. Either way, let's just forget it.
I'm spreading the love to lots of different stores this month and the next so get ready!

I have a list of stores, but not their addresses. The Dakka Store Finder needs to get updated with the rest of the Orlando shops (Currently only lists Armadillo, CoC, and Sci-Fi)
Magic Inferno
Paladin Tech and Games
Phoenix Games
Cool Stuff Games
and I'm pretty sure there is like one or two more.

I have to say that my own experience in Sci-Fi City left a positive impression and that was probably 10-11 years ago. I'm not sure if they've moved, but the store was impressive to say the least and the employees were not only friendly, but helpful and knowledgeable as well.
I never had the chance to play there, although the gaming area was substantial at the time. Best of all, it had enough to catch the interest of my wife-to-be, an ardent non-gamer, long enough for me to browse the gaming materials at leisure. If she hadn't moved to live with me in Jacksonville, the store would likely be my second home.
Cyporien has expressed the merits of Rhubarb and Amorous Armadillo to me as well and I look forward to visiting it.

Jacksonville, FL? Jacksonville NC?
If you still live in Florida, you're going to have to come to one of the weekend get togethers that my friends and I have to game with us.

Jax FL, Orange Park specifically. I'd love to hook up for a few games. All I've been able to do lately is collect and paint since Suncoasts' AC crashed and their customer service dropped to nill. If I can't get in at least 2-3 games at Borderlands there's no reason for me to make the 45 minute drive to get there.
Chip is a great guy (barring the experience you've had with him Dash) and I really do love Borderlands - one of my buddies out of high school was a co-owner when they first opened - and like to support local businesses, but the local 'personalities' can be grating to deal with and some of the smack that's talked isn't what I consider appropriate for my son (now 13) to be exposed to. There's also some really great guys that I've played and gotten to know in the Guardians club, so it's not all bad.
Let me know when you're getting together and I'll make sure to set aside some time. I'm a sporadic player at best, so not what you'd consider competitive, but I have a good time whether I massacre or get massacred.

Well, Gavin, Dash and I are about two streets over from Suncoast, so very close to you. I think Dash is having friends over this weekend to game. Please PM him with your contact info so he can call you and find out if you're free to come over for a game or two. Usually Saturdays are spent either at a game store (i.e. Sci-Fi last weekend) or having people over for gaming at our house. It's great fun and we usually have some snacks during the day and take a break halfway and go to lunch/dinner somewhere close. If your son likes to game, he is more than welcome to come over too. Always happy to foster the gaming experience to the next generation.
