And the end of the day, shipping is shipping whether we buy something and you send it to us or we buy something and the store sends it to us.

Plus, we have Maelstrom for free shipping.

Hmm idk. Last time I saw an IA book in my store it was $85-90. I dont know too many people willing to shell out more than the rulebook for fluff and things people may/may not allow

For our friends in Oz, I also posted this news on another forum and one of the Australian users had this to say:
Awesome news - they've been trialing it in the Sydney bunker for the last few months looking to bring it everywhere here. Hopefully it'll mean more acceptance of FW's stuff!

Ozymandias wrote:This is good news for us New Worlders, we can finally get these books without paying a huge shipping fee and dealing with a long wait time.
I thought it was good news too, even though I only buy a select few Forge World books myself. Personally, I only own the two IA Apocalypse books at this time, but it's good to see all aspects of GW's product line have wider availability. It helps grow the hobby and if I should happen to want another Forge World book in the future it will be nice to be able to buy it in the local shop. I'm still thinking about buying the Master Class book. Like the IA Apocalypse books it's not too terribly expensive, yet contains a lot of fun and useful information.

Last time I saw an IA book in my store it was $85-90
Some of the books are quite expensive, but not all of them. Regardless of price there are enthusiasts who avidly collect them anyway. I know people who buy every book as it's released. For me, I stuck with the IA Apocalypse books because they are much more affordable and useful to me. But the more expensive books are extremely nice and a lot of fun and I can understand why some hobbyists do pay the premium prices for them.

I had no idea the IA books were in GW stores across the pond.

I for one am glad to hear this. What has held me back from buying IA before is that I've never actually seen one. They're just felt so far away. But maybe now if I can handle an IA book before I buy, as I do with most all books I buy, I'll finally know exactly what I'm getting.

Well I tend to avoid the city, so that's why I haven't been into the bunker to see any. Still, it's cheaper to buy it from FW and pay shipping...

FW rules are worse.

So why use them? If you're complaining about the supposed lack of balance in 40k then giving yourself a handicap sure won't make it any better.

Same reason people use units like Ogryns, bloodclaw variants, and thousand sons i suppose. Fluff and fun.

I wish my flgs would carry them, getting one of these books at a reasonable price is like searching for the lost ark.

i think the success of this will depend on whether GW will tack on the shipping cost to the already high price. if they sell it at the same price listed in the FW catalog (that's what they use at games days, right?), then people will choose to just get it instead of ordering it. if they decide to add on the shipping cost, some people will pass.

Then you'll have to keep looking, because FLGSes don't get any kind of discount in stocking FW stuff...which means they likely wouldn't sell the stuff at a discounted price.

There is no shipping cost for items, FW or otherwise, when they are purchased in GW stores.

You won't find them for less than FW sells them for.

Some FLGS might be able to help you get them equal to the FW price, with no shipping. I at times sell them for 0% markup at my store. I basically take pre-orders from the guys, order them together to get free express shipping out of England. If I'm feeling particular generous or rich, I'll order an extra for the store, even though I don't make a profit.

yeah, i know... but things change. airlines used to let you take two bags with you for free but that changed. if they're introducing the FW stuff throughout the north american GW store system, they *may* mark it up.

Again, they are not adding a shipping charge.

yeah, and they MAY come with a Ham Sammich. Equally likely, in my mind. And useful, nothing like cracking open an IA book and reading it with a good Ham Sammich

But currently all product in the US that goes out of mail order, or to stores, and to most FLGS, is free of freight charges.

Good idea,

I did buy the Model Masterclass in the Burlington, Ontario GW a year or so ago. I think the price was in the 50-60 dollar range which is about the right exchange. It is a great book but I likely wouldn't have bought it if I didn't see it in the store.

Hopefully this plan works, and hopefully they bring out a volume two of the masterclass.

Well Caddock, you're in luck, because they are bringing out a second volume of Masterclass. It should be out in February/March.

Has there been any word yet on which specific Forgeworld book will be available in US shops?

I'd be willing to pick up the Imperial Armor volume that focused on Space Marines if I could get it in store.

"Books" implies that the entire line-up of Imperial Armour volumes will be for sale.

Worse... if if they make the price higher in order to compensate for the shipping. And they will do the little money exchange trick. This is where merchants just tweak the exchange rate so extra padding is added to the bottom line. For the longest time FW stuff was sold at the Glen Burnie bunker at 2USD:1GBP well after the exchange improved significantly. Oh and it was 2:1 based on the website price, which includes VAT, which of course we shouldn't pay in the US.

So no, they will not itemize it out to show exchange rate, shipping, VAT... but we will pay it. Which is all money for them. Why the frak didn't they do this sooner?

Anyway I asked my local GW yesterday, and dude said he had never heard such a thing. BrassScorpion, we need to talk, because evidently I need to go to your store to get some rumor lovin'.

Again..."all of them"?

The only ones likely to not be in there are Volumes 1+2, which are slated to be redone and rereleased as completely updated since they were showing their age.

I am really excited about this! I will happily drop the money at the local store for instant gratification (even if it is more money, i.e. my previous post).

If it doesn't happen who do I need to talk to for building my hopes then destroying them?

Edit: because I'm special

Yep they are in my local GW... IA 3 - 8, Model Masterclass, and Apocalypse I and II. All are shrinkwrapped.

Apocalypse I and II are each $33.00, which is pretty dead on the current xe.com conversion from the 20GBP FW list price. I didn't get any other prices.

This is utter coolness!

Figures... Badab was/is the one I'd be most likely to buy... I stopped by my friendly local GW store today and talked with the manager. Apparently, the GW stores *can't* order specific books. They just get what they get. Annoying. I'm guessing they're looking for ways to blow out older stock that's been sitting in a warehouse for a while.
