My buddy had the same problem with the tau codex. He'd rock our armies every time we played so we went through his list and found some errors. It was his first army so no biggie. Ultimately, though, we ended up giving him slightly more options than he already had while dumbing down only a couple of the things that messed us up.

In short, the tau codex is hard to read. Go through his list with him. If its messed up, don't play until he fixes it. Its no biggie. Everybody makes list mistakes.

Although... this seems like a biiiiiiiiiiiig mistake

Yea I think we all want answers to this crazyness. I agree on the Tau dex being a bit of a head scratcher though, Im still not 100% on how skyray works lol. But that guy has been hoeing you guys from the get go.

Yet another PERFECT example of why you dont play peope unless they have a CODEX and a WRITTEN LIST to show you. People saying they have it all in their head are instantly flagged IMO

See that wouldnt make me think your cheating though. Having those on your person at a game is more then enough. I dont argue that people CANT memorize their lists and codex, I just dont trust them when they "forget" them So no game on my table

I know. If the guy's army was legit, it was going to be my new Tau Army list.

You think the Tau Codex is hard to read?

There are units in the Tyranid Codex which require you to refer to as many as eight different pages between p.33 and p.96 to get their stats, powers, rules and what not sorted out.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Tau Codex is a very easy read. No extremely crazy rules. Just really customizable elites/HQ.

Most people I know don't like the layout of the codex. Personally, I'm not a fan, but it works. I think the 4th ed. Tyranids codex is the best. Unit specific special rules, point costs, and gear all in the same place.

The only thing I didnt like about previous Nids codex is how the weapon stats were. It was annoying going back and forth to remember how many attacks this had, or the strength of it and so on.

Skyray is just a normal tank but with 2 markerlights as weapons.
All Markerlights on the board when they hit a target can designate the Marker shot to be used for 1 of the 6 seeker missiles on the skyray.

So the Skyray on its own can fire 2 seeker missiles a turn if the markerlight shots hit. But you can use the markerlights for anything else they are useful for.
It is just a good if you have a lot of ML in the army on the first turn you can nuke the board. Shame it only has 6 seeker missiles in total though

And the codex is not that hard to understand, sure you might have to re read something but not difficult.

I punched this list into Wolf Lair Army builder, and can't get all the stuff to work. And the stuff I can get to work makes the list break 1500. That list is whacked

It does look like he's running seriously over 1500 points. Can the OP clarify if each of the battlesuits in the Crisis squads are armed with all of the listed weapons or do the 3 suits carry different kit? that would bring the points down a bit, but still not down to 1500

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

This is one of those threads where the OP will complain about something, and then just disappear on us. Kindda annoying, I want to know if the guy said anything about the super cheater.

about the skyray - Ok so I wasnt too far off from how I was reading it. I didnt realize it only has 6! missiles. Thats a gimp. Even having 6 missiles smack into 1 unit a turn isnt THAT terrible. I mean it is for said unit, but that would be alot of bs3 shots everywhere else.

The OP did say that he can't fully remember the Tau players original army composition, so his description might not be all that accurate.

Can you say "Stormboyz?" "Kommandos?" tau are total suckers for deep strike. Every single game I've played against tau I've won, just because I was able to deepstrike one or two units in, disrupt my opponent and make him compensate while the bulk of my troops move in. Once you get to him, it'll be a slaughter.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

lol Kommandos really would ruin a Tau players day. Imagine 3 units popping up, with burnas in all of them? Then some deffkoptas for good measure? Man that would SUCK for the Tau.

I actually hope this was a guy cheating, simply because I'd feel really bad for a kid making an honest mistake.

I mean, imagine you were that kid. You start playing 40k, find and build an army, make a list you thought was legit and ended up being the top dog at your LGS. That's quite the accomplishment and you'd feel pretty proud. Now, someone points out the mistakes you made in your list, so you re-do it and suddenly find yourself loosing all the time. That's quite the letdown. I know we all try to live by: "Have fun at all costs" but winning is quite fun, and suddenly going from winning 100% of the time to loosing most of the time would make many a player quit in frustration.

So, if it was a kid making an honest mistake, go easy on him

Im thinking it has to be. Mainly because the OP said he had his list in his head, AND remembered his codex.

I never thought I'd see the day an ork would get krumped fierce by tau.

Like I saw this thread and I felt my organs all begin shutting down as obviously it was the end of the world. Obviously.

That being said, have him bring in the codex write a list, then play a fun game where he pulls a draw or wins(No nobs, no klaws, just get shot up), it'll not only have him realize he can still win with tau, but it'll make your return to the top more meaningful and force him to start bleeding fun models for power models, which in turn makes him a better player as he's got to fight all that much harder.

This. The first time a friend of mine played proxy Tau he fielded Battlesuits with no guns.

It's also about 600 points over with illegal suit builds and ignoring the restrictions Farsight forces on the army.

Yup and yes it is illegal to take a Crisis suit with no guns. Unless the 3 hard points are taken up with support systems which would be really bloody stupid lol.
