impossable, the grots have no weapons that can hurt the grinder and even if this was when the Outnumbered rule was still around walkers don't take any penelties for "Losing"

I had 5 space marines charge over 20 boys with a power claw to try to slow them down while i got my tanks away from that blob. I hoped that could stall for maybe a turn but ended up sweeping them after 3 turns and only loosing one marine which was for me.

Also over the weekend I watched a blood angles last unit (sanguinary guard) charge a tau armies last unit (crisis suits). They won with only one guy left and the suits fled and before they went off the board they shot at and killed the last sanguinary guard resulting in a double table and the craziest thing I have ever witnessed in the game.

It's the hilarity like this that makes the game so fun.

10 sisters of battle VS Yarrick attached to 3 ogryns.

Sisters charge, inflict 3 wounds. Yarrick's squad none. 1 Ogryn more dies to no retreat failed saves on top of the other one. Then it was an attrition fight until I had my Veteran Sister VS Yarrick down to 1 wound.

They both died in the end and Yarrick failed his get back up roll, so was fairly epic.

I had just got my tau army, and was being introduced to 40k. Had no clue that tau were meant for long range. 1st game, going against orks, made my shas'o as CC oriented as possible (vectored retro thrusters, stim injector, airbursting frag projector, cyclic ion blaster, iridium armour, h/w multi tracker....so about a 155 pt.....)
the only crisis suit in my army, and the only 1 2 survive CC....my kroot and FWs got wiped out in 4 turns, the whole time I use jsj, didnt hit anything, so I finally rushed him into combat at a horde of 30 boys. since we didnt have a limit on the game time, we just duked it out, and after 20 shootas, a warboss, 5 nobs, and 15 sluggas later, i still have no wounds, and finally passed my initiative test....which hurt me, because next turn, I took a rocket to the face, failed my armor save, and fell over D.E.D....at least i took out alot of orks...

I am NOT a crook. I have never stolen a thing in my life. BUT I have borrowed things with no intent whatsoever on returning them....

Vets cant' take commissars, unless it was a lord commissar, in which case he was an IC, and you could have just munched him and watch the squad flee.

In my case, the most ludicrous close combats would have to be either in this game where I had a single sentinel destroy another guard player. No luck involved, it was just that my opponent never quite grasped that sentinels could get into close combat and that his troops were useless to resist. The other one was my game a couple nights ago. An obliterator walks up to a huge angry pile of ogryn and sucker-punches one in the face. The Ogryn then fail two stubborn morale checks and flee off the table.

That's right. Obliterators: close combat machines of doom.

The grots had charged some horrors, and were left stuck in with one horror remaining. The soul grinder charged in but missed all his attacks, and the grots killed the final horror, causing the Soul Grinder to lose combat by 1. Nothing bad happened to the grider, of course, but it still lost.

....That doesn't really count as 'beating' a soul grinder. That counts as beating some horrors. And the soul grinder didn't lose by anything actually. It wasn't part of the same unit as the horrors--it was out on its own.

So yeah, the Grots didn't beat a Soul Grinder so much as 'didn't die as fast as expected' to a Soul Grinder.

yes, but what you're saying is that grots beat "a side that included a soul grinder" not "a soul grinder".

Yeah, technically the Soul Grinder did lose by one wound....which means next to nothing. It still wasn't beaten. It was still alive. If the grots had managed to wreck, that's impressive....living? Still impressive, but not so much.

It is something you dont see every day. However it's kinda overshadowed by every other hilarious thing that happened on this list.

I also have another anecdote. We had a game recently with very few points and no HQ. My friend picked Dire Avengers and warlocks. I picked Fire Warriors and 3 crisis suits. I managed to shoot them all dead in their tracks, with the last exarch literally just one turn away from charging my Warrriors. For the lulz, I let him charge (he already rolled his armor saves and found that his exarch isnt going to live, but we were having fun). Up until this point we knew Tau were not meant for CC, but hilariously none of the tau scored a hit, while the Exarch (armed with a Diresword) killed three, forced a -3 modifier on the tau's leadership test, then ran them down. in one fell swoop 100 points of Fire Warriors were gone to a 20 something point exarch. We knew they'd loose, we just didnt realise how badly they'd loose XD.

Back in 4th ed I charged a fully tooled squad of black templar with a full complement of neophytes into a squad of guardsmen by the third turn the marines were all dead and the only reason they lasted that long is because they're fearless in CC

lol that reminds me of my friend. His black templars were shot, but they failed the Rightous Zeal test and kept running backwards, until they ran off the table three turns later. The enemy didnt suffer a single wound. Not exactly Close Combat, but it was hilarious.

And also.....

Commissar Yarrick vs a Warlord Titan. He beat the Warlord Titan..... IN COMBAT.

Marneus Calgar vs one of my scout squads. My scout squad owned him, but next turn they were obliterated by vindicators.

2 Necron lords and Night Bringer vs 1 Devastator Sergeant with a power fist. The Devastator passed everything and killed night bringer D: and died next turn from the necron lord. They were locked in combat for 3 turns.....

One of my assault squads vs a 30 death company. I still have no idea how i won that. He had horrendous roles and I saved every single one of them

One of my Captains went into combat with a Daemon Prince. My captain won and then went on to kill an entire Thousand Son's squad.

Also in 3rd edition, watching my friends Librarian fight his brothers Carnifex in assault. For the entire game. Neither one of them could land either a hit or a wound on each other, aside from the Librarian scoring one hit, and failing his instant death roll.

My worst: Swarmlord with 3 wounds remaining charges into a grey hunter squad with a power fist-wielding wolf guard. He's charging through cover. The grey hunters go first. They miss with all their attacks. The swarmlord misses with all of his attacks. The wolf guard hits him on the noggin three times with the power fist, wounding three times. The swarmlord then fails all of his invulnerable saves. Game over.
