Just wanted to start a thread about the oddest close combat results you have seen in a game.

Mine would have to be 4 Veteran IG taking down Kharn who had assaulted and was at full strength.

I charged the Swarmlord with 4 Bloodletters.....

8 Ymgarl Genestealers charged my broadside team of 3. I took 0 wounds and killed 3, then swept them. Crazy victory for Tau lol.

Back in 3rd (possibly 4th not 100% here) I had a squad of CSM that were assaulted by assault marines. The only survivor was the champion that had a power weapon. He then went on to take out a HQ by himself and then kill almost a whole dev squad before the game finished. It was simply amazing.

I played a killteam where I spent a whole turn shooting at a couple space marines, and the entire turn showed nothing except for 1 grot that not only hit a SM, but shot him dead. It was epicly hilarious. And this was him, the Grot with the golden gun (not CC but awesome none the less)

A single tau Fire Warrior bashed and ran down (=O) a squad of 5 marines.

I had an assault marine (normal bp+csword, no sarge etc), last left of his squad assault the end of a strungout line of 17 gretchin + runtherd.

He shot one gretchin in the brain, then assaulted and killed 3 more, laughed at the 2 armor saves he had tot ake, and swept the entire unit, the tiny green limbs flying through the air had to have been quite a sight.... needless to say his helmet is painted gold now and hes joined the veteran company ...

This week my lone surviving tac sergeant was charged by 6 war bikes plus a nob. He won combat and swept them

Last weekend my crisis suits charged a seer council, won combat, and swept them

8 Imperial Guardsmen with plain Sergeant vs Space Wolf Wolf Guard in Terminator Armour with Twin Wolf Claws who'd charged. Cut down that puupy!

Nine Sisters were killed in the opponenent's turn by Abbadon in an assault (all nine attacks hit and killed).

My turn, Veteran Sister superior took two wounds off Abbadon. Abbadon misses all attacks.

Opponents turn, Abbadon dies to lone Sister Superior, after hitting but failing to wound her (even with the re-roll).

The emperor protects .... at least he protects 1/10 >.>

I've witnessed a few such funny moments.

But the most extraordinare one must be the time my Avatar of Khaine charged 5-man tactical squad(without a Sarge) and didn't kill a single one for 3 turns, when he finally lost his final wound. I missed 13 3+ to hit attacks that day.

most hilarious one was a friends game.


IG veteran squad with commisar vs Bloodthirster.


combat lasted 4 turns with the Bloodthirster winning, but being brought down to 1 wound which was lost to a lascannon shot next turn.

My friend assaulted my Tzeentch Daemon Prince with a Tau Battlesuit Command Squad. Kept him pinned down for three turns before my terminators arrived to sort them out. Not the greatest tactic imho, but pretty ballsy.

My greatest would be my storm trooper sergeant (last edition) holding the line alone in CC for 4 rounds against a Hive Tyrant and 2 Tyrant Guard.

I managed to blast the rest of his army off of the field, and when the sergeant finally fled, the Tyrant didn't catch him. The sergeant promptly levelled his plasma pistol and removed the Tyrant's last wound.

I've also seen a 12 man firewarrior squad be minced by a massive squad of Chaos marines, then the Ethereal that was in the squad skewered two marines, held combat and saved 18 wounds next turn. He then ran the lot down

Sacred Bovine!! That is hilarious!

TH/SS Terminators assault plague marines, and fail 3/4 saves before swinging. They managed to draw the combat and eventually win, but the 3 failed saves was some pretty epic fail.

Well, my "greatest" combat result in 40k was when I tried out nob bikers, vs. tau. (Can you see where this is going?)

Twice I split the warboss's from the nob squads, both times they...failed so much I couldn't belive it.

The first one charged farsight and 2 of his buddies, took 2 wounds from the small guys, 1 wound from farsight. Dead warboss. (This unit later charged (!!) a unit of nob bikers, with predictable results.)
The second one had already taken a wound from allocation, but with 2 wounds he should be able to handle 2 broadsides...right? Missiles to the face.


Finally I'd like to add a little fantasy tid-bit. My unit of 50 slaves got charged by grave guard (undead guys) in horde formation (more attacks), with dance (re-roll hits) as well as a killy vamp...I lost combat by 27. Thank god for steadfast.

Just last night I had Snikrot come on with 9 kommandos with 2 burnas. They assaulted a back field combat squad of 5 with no sarg, thought for sure I would at least win the combat or tie and stay stuck in till next turn. Nope, lost 4 orks and caused no wounds, turned tail and ran. 2 turns later they rallied and because I had not needed the whaagh earlier in the game they were able to charge them again to take the marines out.

I was just flabbergasted that under the weight of so many attacks + 6 power weapon attacks that my orks caused no wounds.

Against me: my friend's tau shield drone flew into my last terminator's face, killing him dead in one hit


For me: Skulltaker was charged by 10 genestealers (he had 3 bloodletters left in his unit) and the genestealers all whiffed. I chopped the genestealers down, then ran down a hive tyrant, then 3 carnifexes, and finished up with the 3 zoanthropes in the back. Skulltaker took almost all of the army's points that game-he took 5 killpoints out of 6-my flamers got the unit of poison 'gaunts and he won me 2nd place at the PAX east tournament last year (next round he wiped out the deceiver in one hit)

6 firewarriors taking the charge from a many attacks Daemonhost. Killed the daemon host for no losses!

For me a lone Soulgrinder took out a Def Dred, a Big Mek with custom forcefield and 10 'ard boyz, 1 nob with power klaw, and three killa kans.

A single broodlord annihilated my 5 man assault squad.

Next turn I shot and charged the broodlord with my dreadnought... and promptly received multiple rends, resulting in an exploded dread (that killed two marines from a nearby tac squad!).

The broodlord skittered away unharmed.

I can't wait to finally destroy that vile xeno.

My friend's mawloc assaulted some Pathfinders (tau) The Pathfinders Tarpitted the Mawloc for the rest of the game. He even tried getting away with Hit and run and failed all those rolls.

Had the same thing happen to me. A whole unit of hormagaunts charged my suit HQ and his 2 bodyguards plus 2 shield drones. Took 15 wounds, saved against THEM ALL and in return killed a few and routed and cut them all down. Hurray for being out of synapse range.

It's because all the other codexes don't call these Crazy Close Combat results. They call it Wednesday.

Another one, same game as the tarpitted Mawloc, I tarpitted my friend's Shrikes and a Flyrant with a squad of Broadsides with a shield drone at the same time.

His dice did not like him at all that game.

I seem to remember a Soul Grinder losing combat to a unit of Grots.
