Gotcha, but as previously stated, the armor they were declared excommunicate in is only going to last so long, I mean look at the 13th company. You simply cannot operate without support in the Eye of Terror and expect to never have to scavenge, especially considering the relative rarity of astartes weapons/armor/ammunition

the 13th company has been in eye of terror for thousands of years and its hard to make repares when you have claws instead of fingers and when you are constantly on the move. the relictors only need to gather supples from worlds (pretending to be another chapter to gain supplies from a small forgeworld) or set up a new base with factories, to make new armour instead of using chaos armour bits. it would take along time for the relictors (as long as they stay loyal) to get to the point the 13th company are at now.

refresh my memory on the number of active Astartes in the Relictors chapter. Additionally even well established chapters have a rough time keeping recruiting up, not to mention armor repair and upkeep which is done by veritable armies of chapter serfs and servitors, all of which are provided by home planets and the chapters' techmarines. As an excommunicate chapter they can't simply stop off on a planet and demand more bodies to keep the ranks of the chapter serfs full, additionally they can't stop off at forge worlds and request a refit and re-armament. Thats not even considering damage sustained in void combat, which usually takes Imperial Shipyards to repair. As renegades they have to scavenge and take wherever and whatever they can, it's not Dawn of War they can't just pop a Chapel Fortress down from orbit and queue up a bunch of servitors to fix everything, if they set down on an uninhabited planet they would have to 1) have the machinery to extract material and resources, 2) the ability to process said resources such as promethium, adamantium, steel, ceramite, food, water, brass, etc. and 3) the ability to forge said resources into ammunition, weapons, repair materials, and armour.

all of the aforementioned is the province of forge worlds, agri-worlds, and Astartes recruitment worlds. none of which renegades have access to any more. The Imperium is a giant machine that supports the Space Marines and the Imperial Guard, mighty though both might be, without support life get real hard real fast. This has been true of every army throughout history.

Good.
Just call them the Relicotrs. They could be a Khorne study task force... that sounds very odd.

I'd say that ranks in the top 10 bad ideas of all time, right up there with attacking mars or terra.
BluntmanDC wrote:its about 3 companies left.

300 Some odd marines left to carry on the legacy of the chapter, that leaves at most a grand total of somewhere around 3 Techmarines & 3 Apothecaries (depending on casualties sustained prior to being declared renegade) that ensures that as a chapter the Relictors are hanging on some thin rope, that coupled with the fact that 300 marines, though a potent force, has nowhere near the kind of military might to take control of a forge world, or any other Imperial Planet above feudal or agricultural grade. As I said before a chapter that small, with no stable base to recruit/re-arm from, is inevitably going to become battlefield scavengers and void pirates to sustain their operational capability.

don't get me wrong, I still think the Relictors are bad ass, however I'm just stating the reality of their situation, which if anything makes them awesome in my eyes, it's always cool to see renegade chapters like the Soul Drinkers that walk that fine line and constantly live on the edge.

Why have the relictors changed their colour scheme? even if they did wear chaos salvaged armour, they would get rid of the chaos bits.

Relictors armour isn't black and even with a probable low number of techmarines they still have access to files and spray paint (or the space marine forge version).

I agree with this. My Relictors wear "good" SM power armor, but my Sternguard are the ones who have integrated portions of salvaged CSM armor into their own suits. I made sure to file down the chaos stars and symbols on them, making it clear that they intentionally shaved it off themselves.

I think if you're going to try to pass as Relictors, you should at least play it relatively close to the actual color scheme. I could see some license with the colors, but that's 100% different. Maybe your guys divided from the Fire Claws during their renaming because they were just "too extreme" for the Relictors?

Agree 100%, its like saying ''my small warband of ultramarines, on a quest, painted their armour green in tribute to the greenskins they have killed'' and if they are giving 'tribute' to chaos stuff they are now no longer loyal.

and they wear khrone armour and use khrone weapons

so they are just a khrone warband?

why use relictors when you could just use a random company of a random unknown chapter corrupted by a chaos relic?

In all seriousness, Khorne doesn't seem like the sort of god who'd care about relics, he doesn't like ranged fighters or pansies, he wants people who will go up to an enemy and smack them in the face....a relic-hunting band of renegades sounds more like Tzeentch's territory if you ask me.
