Night Lords. I like how when they were loyal they would often disobey orders completely if they weren't willing to fulfill them, and how they would also refuse battles that weren't stacked in their favor. They are a very "human" legion, psychopathic, but human. It is sad that their legion was doomed to treachery from the start, not 1000 Sons sad, but a little sad nonetheless. Their Omnibus was a fantastic read, their armor looks cool, and I like their angle of being traitors due to hatred of the Emperor instead of pacts with Chaos Gods. (However, those are good stories as well)
1. Night Lords
2. Alpha Legion
3. Death Guard

Have you read fenris?
Thousand sons and alpha legion got some work done.
Not sure what's alpha's agenda there, but still.
Anyone that read legion can pm me a TLDR version? I don't have time for a book currently.

Death Guard all the way, cause Nurgle seems to be the only Chaos-god with a sense of humor. And I like their WW1 vibe in the Horus heresy, drowning the battlefield in gas, radioactive stuff, phosphex... and bodies.
I also like Night Lords and Iron Warriors.
And since I read the Black Legion supplement I also like them, because Abby united all Chaos and crushes the Imperium right now as we speak.

well, by the fluff Death Guard were only partially traitors (according to old old fluff, when they got to tera, they were gonna fire on the traitor fleet since Mortation didn't like sorcerers, being lied to, or the like. Thanks Typhus, you ass) they were also the only legion who didn't route after Tera fell, they kinda just marched to the eye or terror.
I chose TS, though I don't count them as chaos alligned either: the worst the magnus-loyal TS have done since the Heresy was kick the space wolves in the shin, which I think is perfectly justified. the Blue TS are exiles from the rest of the legion.

Out of all the Horus heresy novels Legion is actually my favorite and I believe it's the most well written book in the entire series. To each their own I guess.
My vote goes to thousand sons because no other Legion could stand toe to toe against them without the help of the sisters of silence and custodes.
Of all the legions loyal and traitor, they are the most feared for good reason.
On the table top, thousand sons are... not anything what the fluff describes.

Black Legion
- Horus was the only primarch ever to fully realize his potential. He went and achieved god like power on par with the emperor all on his lonesome. Without giving in to daemonhood. So I consider him to be the most powerful primarch of them all.
- The word Bearers may have started the heresy, but by all that is unholy, the Black Legion will finish it.
- People say they are an epic failure. These guys have picked a fight with the entirety of the imperium and have been fighting them for ten thousand years...alone *. Despite fighting such a long war with limited access to resources, they are somehow the largest of the traitor legions by an order of magnitude. They must be doing something right. Not to mention that Abaddon has not only survived 12 black crusades but has gotten stronger after each one. Talk about playing the long game!
- They are the only legion to reject their primarch for being a failure and taking vengeance and bitterness to whole new level. They want to burn an entire Galaxy to the ground not for the sake of it or because some god wants it so, but out of sheer hatred.
- All other primarchs have ascended to daemonhood and are hence bound to the warp or dead. Abaddon is the only one alive and kicking as a mortal(ish) in the real world. And who knows with alpharius/omegon lol.
*The other legions help during a black crusade, but after that they return to doing their thing, while the Black Legion are left to fight the imperium on their own. The others might cross paths and end up fighting the imperium but that's random. The Black Legion will actively seek them out. An enemy that outnumbers them so vastly in all regards it's not even a contest. And yet they grow in strength.

he didn't give into daemonhood, but he was still a controlled pawn of chaos like a daemon.
"alone" with the help of multiple warbands, their leaders being technically immortal while in favor of the gods, their troops in much the same situation, and a never ending supply of traitor guardsmen, chaos daemons, and others. yes, they sure are "alone"
They didn't reject their primarch, he got mind nuked out of existence
Abaddon is not a primarch. Horus was his primarch, and he didn't just die, he was removed from existance. Additionally, daemons are bound to sit in the warp, they are bound to return there when out of energy or killed.
Night lords are pirates, Iron Warriors go out to loot supplies, DG, WE, and EC all go kill imperials, black legion is not special on that front. Hell, Huron arguably does a better job at killing imperials then Abby and his boys. Automatically Appended Next Post:
Bull, Thousand Sons are the most tragic. Attacked by the wolves based on Horus's treachery, while getting shown that their single greatest flaw and fear (flesh change) was back, all while their research, knowledge, and home was destroyed around them. Finally, after all this was done, their first captain accidentally sacrificed most all of their flesh to stop the mutations plaguing his brothers. Damn, just damn :(

Armoured in ebony, bone and brass, armed with the most devastating weapons of Chaos, poised to annihilate Cadia and tear the Emperor from his throne.

I'd like to point out it should be Sons of Horus, not Black Legion. The Black Legion is formed from warbands of the Sons of Horus and isn't a true Legion.
I go Alpha Legion>Night Lords>Thousand Sons>Emperor's Children>Word Bearers based on fluff and looks.

All legions loyal to horus or to the emperor betrayed human kind, by feeding chaos all sorts of horrible emotions for more then 10.000 years. The emperor is the greatest traitor he should have sacrificed himself and his grimdark dream of a regressing empire in order to save human kind and all other sentient species living nearby.
