JB: I like the concept of a free Shrike roaming through the treetops of the jungle. I'm not sure that I like the idea of a real Shrike sitting on my couch eating my Skittles.

I'd agree with either ork or imperial guard.

Green tide orks are the best when they get the charge, but the guard is also the best because they don't need the charge to still come out ahead.

Everybody else can be good, but invariably has some horrible, gaping flaw, like low model count (here's looking at you, space wolves).

In my experience a teamed up Khorne army with Tyranids. It was like a combined army unit, KB were infantry, HT and carny were tanks.
In 3rd ed i would have happily thrown my KB army against any other CC army. But ive lost my axe choppas so not sure anymore.

Probably would be orks. They are great in CC and there's so many of them that they would be quite forgiving of errors.

The Orks and Tyranids are designed for CC. That's their wheelhouse and no one does it better. The mass amount of numbers is what wins CC. There is only so much a few elites can do vs 30 units and 60+ attacks.

As much as I play and love my Tyranids, I agree that Orks are simply better.

Tyranids are CC-focused, but their shooting is also really good. Devourers, Zoanthropes, Doom, Hive Guard, Venom Cannons, etc are all great shooting weapons/units.

Orks, on the other hand, live, breathe, and eat melee. Ork shooting is less accurate than a simply Gaunt, and they really don't have any reliance on guns aside from Lootas.

Tyranids Tervigon build has got to be one of the top CC lists out there.
I love my orks though because, well, WAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!
They're both the main cc armies, with BA coming in 2nd probably.

yep. I assaulted a mob of like 150 with my 10 captains, chapter master, 2 chaplains and vanguard veterans. B the end I killed the orks, my vanguard were dead and I lost the 2 chaplains. A captain was on his last wound.

Death Company Armies tend to be quite obscene in cc, but I'd go with Orks on this one.

For me it comes down to Tyranids and Orks.
Both armies have a strong element of "Run everything forward until it hits a face".

I just prefer tyranids because they can put out some unholy shooting before they get to CC as well.
3 Fexes with 2xTLDevs and a tervigon with Onslaught is going to put 36 Twinn Linked S6 shots just about wherever you want them. And to stop it, all you have to do is assault 3 carnifexen and the gaunts around them! Not easy.

Tyranids attract more tang than an astronaut convention.
