We were playing a 2v2 in the store and i ended up being teamed up with grey knights against DE and BA.
For some odd reason the BA player had 4 KP's... Dread, DC dread, Astorath, DC with JP+Lemartes (at 1500) I forget exactly the model count, but it was 20+ for the DC, maybe close to 30.
A simple Doom, A few FD meltas, and a charge of GKT's wiped them in one turn (with fearless wounds included)
I've not seen anything like that happen to other deathstars i've seen being played, DC are now a bit meh IMO.
That list is ridiculous and should have its arse handed to it. Have em try it again with 9 DC and reclussiarch in a Redeemer along with appropriate support. If I have one complaint it is how so many look at each unit in a vacuum. We really need to consider that any unit on its own without support will die more times than not. (there is always that crazy hot dice game where the improbable happens)
20-30 Jump pack DC... fun in an apoc game.... foolish otherwise.

Awesome Autarch
|
7 GKTs with Pedro or Khan and Cassius in an LRC is redonkulous.
Nob Bikers are the classic Deathstar and still one of the best.
TWC hero hammer unit with 4 lords is amazing.
Ragnar, Wolf Priest, Rune Priest, Rune Priest, 10 Wolf Guard fully kitted in an LRC.
Bikelocks with Farseer and Autarch or Dual Farseers is tits.
10 Chaos terminators, all champs with a mark and Abbadon and a Lash Sorcerer.
Full Unit of Blood Crushers with Skull Taker, and 3 mounted Heralds.
10 assault termies, shrike, libby or chappy.
There are lots of them, and they are a hit or miss tactic Either your opponent has the tools to stop them and you lose or they can't and you win.

Agreed it all boils down to having fun. I did not mean to sound harsh. as long as you go into the game expecting to loose versus any well balanced list you are good, then if you pull out the win it will be epic.
For example, when I took foot guard with conscripts against ba I expected to loose but wanted to bleed em. Much to my surprise my lowly conscripts rapid fired and killed 3 ba terms. Then the terms charge and my conscripts club the 2remaining terms. It inspired the rest of my army and not a single template deviated restvof the game tabling the BA ..... Epic

I saw a unit of 3 Russ Exterminators, with plasma sponsons hold the center (protected by quite a few conscripts).
That 3 lascannons shots + the 15 Plasma Blasts made for a pretty rough day for the death guard.
The other two heavy support choices were death strikes, and the army theme was an inquisitors extermination force. (led by primaris psyker filling in for inquisitor).
Seriously, nothing wants to get within range of 15 plasma cannon shots.

I think DC are most underated unit in the BA dex.
Indeed I agree, but they need to be large units [I mean 8-12 by large]
I have orks and I have 2 BA playing friends. I can confirm that a squad a foot slogging Nobz [inc warboss] with the standard set uo [3 klaws + waaagh banner, painboy and wound alloacation jazz] 8 man squad can confidently take a charge from 5 DC and lemartes and laugh them off. Originally I build the unit to take charges and counter his DC dread but they caused a head ache for both. Now 10 DC [with lemates] delivered in a stormraven got the jumo on the same unit and wiped them, more than once. I assume that they will have the same effect on Nob Bikers even with the T5 [the 4+ cover dont matter where the DC are comfy ] but the few times my Nobz held their nerve [with a little boss pole persuasion ] I've come out on top with a couple of survivors.
But make sure they get the jump in a 10 man squad with a chap and at least a couple of power weapons and I dont see why they dont stand a very good chance of wiping. And that comes from an avid Ork player [not a jingoist ]

I run a hellion deathstar as such
20 hellions with the baron (and starting with 2 haemies, for FnP and FC) comes to 550 points I get 56 s5, 5 s7, and 4 pw attacks on the charge with 42 BS4 shots beforehand to soften units up. If the unit gets dreadlocked or I want a free move they have a boosted hit and run from the baron and he comes with a pgl for assault and defensive grenades. Throw in stealth from the baron, rerollable dangerous terrain, a 12" move and combat drugs and you have a very nasty and flexible scoring (g2g on an objectibve for 2+ cover FnP likely with fearless at this point XD) unit. Can deal with anything shy of 2w 2+ models (paladins/megnobz) or 2+ FnP (belial command squad, BA assault termies). Really effective against parking lots as well.
Aside from this unit I run MSU venom spam so I can still function should the unit go down

For Blood Angels my fav atm is:
4x TH/SS Termis
1x LC Termi
Priest w/ PW
Librarian - sword/rage powers
In a raven. It kicks things in the teeth with 12 Str 5 PW's followed by 12 TH's (normally rerolling hits!)
For Daemons it'd be:
8x Bloodcrushers - full kit
Skulltaker on Jugg
Herald on Jugg
10 Crushers slogging it normally crushes most armies to a pulp; or keeps em running lol

Best deathstar I have seen:
10 Nobz, Painboy, Cybork armor, 2 powerklaws, 2 kombi-skorchas, bosspole, trukk. Crazy hard to beat. Somewhere around 400 points.
Hard to beat unless you have 5 death company with power weapons led by LeMartes and they charge. Then those ten Nobz disappear quickly. Imagine the look on the guy's face when his unit of Nobz had never been beaten (EVER), and here comes a squad of 6 guys that slaughter them in a single round of combat. Did I feel bad? Not at all. Did I lose any models? His Nobz all had PKs. What do you think?

In my ard boyz list, i run two death stars,
Swarm lord
3x bonesword gaurds
-Hive tyrant
armored shell (2+)
sword/whip, talons
old adversary
paroxysm, life leech
-3x bonesword guards
These two units are just mean. Almost always, when they charge they have preferred enemy, and the enemy is WS1. The swarmlord unit has gone through 10 pallies, a grand master, and a librarian and came out the other side. Also, one of the reasons i think nid players always seem to gravitate to death stars is because we dont have an option to run MSU, nothing in our army works like that, but we can do death stars and big monsters quite well. Another death star type unit i have seen is 20x genestealers with poison with a brood lord, under tervigon support. infiltrate those up in the enemies face with FnP in cover, good night!

The Black Templar Deathstar is the best. It consist of: The High Marshal Gramaldis Emperor's Champion W/accept any Challenge 10 Initiates -Seargant, artificer armour, power fist, bolt pistol, grenades of all sorts, meltagun -Apothocary, artificer armour, power fist, bolt pistol, grenades of all sorts, meltagun -Company Champion, artificer armour, power sword, Storm Shield, bolt pistol, grenades of all sorts, meltagun -Company Standard Bearer, artificer armour, power fist, bolt pistol, grenades of all sorts, meltagun -2 Initiates with meltaguns 5 Neophites CCW That is 21 models in the unit. WHen you kill i guy I can make a d6+3 inch movement toward any of your units. I have 6 Melta guns plus a combi melta on the high marshal. I can have anywere from 0-4 Powerfist in the unit. They will have feel no pain. 6 Have a 2+AS, 7 have a 3+AS, 8 have a 4+AS. There are over 32 power weapon attacks on the charge along with a ton of normal attacks. This unti literally runs through everything but is so point heavy that it isnt feasable in a competitive game.

Illegal unit. The Emperor's Champion isn't allowed to join command squads and Grimaldus can't be in the same command squad as Helbrecht because Helbrecht's command squad has to take FC, something you can't do with Cenobytes in the unit.

Best deathstar unit if points are no option (outwith GK grenade cheese):
Logan (275)
Ragnar+2x wolves (260)
Wolf Lord, Terminator Armour, Wolf Claw, Storm Shield, Saga of the Bear, WTN, WTT, 2x wolves (250)
Wolf Lord, Terminator Armour, Wolf Claw, Storm Shield, Saga of the Wolfkin, WTN, WTT, Meltabombs 2x Wolves (220)
They join Wolf Guard Pack (1035) with:
LRC (SB, Multi Melta, Extra Armour, HK missile)
1xArjac (188)
4xTDA, TH/SS (two Cyclone Missile Launcher)
5xTDA with 2xWC
Total Points Cost: 2040
Advance them up the table using the LRC as cover or you could split the HQ to put them in the transport (minus a wolflord), you'd have to footslog and run.
On the Charge, assuming Ragnar gives his maximum +3 attacks, Logan activates his Living Legend (+1 attack) and gives preferred enemy:
Logan: 9 x S6,I6 Power weapon attacks rerolling to hit
Ragnar: 8 x S6,I6 Power Weapon attacks rerolling to hit
2xWL: 16xS5,I6 Power Weapon attacks rerolling hit and to wound
6xFW: 36 S5, I6 attacks rerolls to hit
5xTDA with WC: 35xS5,I5 Power weapon attacks rerolling to hit and wound
4xTDA with TH/SS: 24xS9 power wapon attacks rerolling to hit
Arjac: 8 x ST10 power weapon attacks rerolling to hit.
Combat:
I6:33xS6 power weapon attacks rerolling to hit (16 rerolling to wound) & 36xS5 regular hits
I5: 35xS5 power weapon attacks rerolling to hit and wound
I1: 24xS9 attacks and 8xS10 attacks all rerolling to hit.
128 attacks
They have 7x 2+/3++ | 1x 2+/4++ | 1x 3+/4++ | 5x 2+/5++ | they also have 6 ablative wounds on the wolves and 3 eternal warriors.
Shooting: 4 missiles a turn, 2 SB shots, 1 BP and 1xS10 6" attack. Plus you have the LRC putting out 12xbolter shots, 4xAC shots (reroll to hit) + multi-melta and HK missile.
You could switch one wolf lord for Njal in Runic Terminator armour if you are worried about paroxysm or psychic shenanigans and he'd give you some extra shooting.
Both combinations are legal units, and scoring troop choices because of Logan. You can also split the Wolf Lords from the Wolf Guard pack for a multi assault if you wanted.
